  • I compare the Nikon FTN and Nikon F2 Photomic to show all the differences.
One thing I forgot in the video the F2 Photomic shows the set aperture in the finder.

I have my F with eye level finder, F ftn, F2 with waist level finder and F2 with the motor drive sitting on my desk all the time. Film loaded and ready to go. I really enjoyed your side by side comparison video. The fact that in 2022 people are still using these cameras on a regular basis and making videos about them is a testament to their unique place in photography history. Oh, and I keep my Nikkormat handy as well. You never know when you might need a backup. Good job as always. Keep your videos coming.

Great video. I especially enjoyed it since my pride and joy is my Nikon F2 Photomic. Thanks for posting Jules.

Great video, very informative. I have settled on my F2AS as my main Nikon 35mm camera, although I have owned several Fs.

Thanks Jules, really nice review. I do have an FTN that works well but i don't take it out as often as I should.

Thank you so much for this! Always wanted to know the differences. Trying to decide between an f2 and an F3.

The F2 and F3 are both great cameras. I prefer the F2 because it only requires batteries for the meter. If you use accessory finders the F3 is a better choice since the meter is built into the camera. Also the F3 meter has 80% of its sensitivity in the 12mm circle on the focus screen the F2 has 60%. Tough choice.

@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 thank you so much for your input. I value the F2 because it is fully mechanical and I view that as a big plus in my camera choices and I’ve had one years ago, but the F3 metering and the smooth 11 ball bearing film advance have always been attractive to me.
Do you have a comparison video between the F2 and F3?

@@2ampipeonthepatioI no longer have an F3. I sold it years ago when I bought an F4. Wish I still had it.

I just scored a Ftn at a garage sale for $15. If the meter works (I need batteries) will it fit and function on a F2? My F2 (DP1) meter is non functional. I know F2 meters will work on F1 with a slight mod (removing 2 screws and a plate) but I don't know if they interchange from F to F2

Great find!! The Ftn finder will mount on the F2 but it won't couple to the shutter speed dial. F2 meters will not work on an F because the batteries for the meter are in the body of the F2. Although as you say the DP-1 can be mounted to an F.

@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 Thanks. I didn't have it quite right then. Looks like I need to find a working DP 1 meter for the F2. So far I haven't seen any unless I buy a whole camera, which I'd like to avoid

@@Trebor1415 There are "topless" bodies for sale from time to time. I found one at KEH for a new prism I got very cheaply at a going out of business sale. Hope you'll find one and get a good price.
