Hey everybody, here is the first part in my 0-100 Mushroom growing series that many of you have been waiting for. In this first entry, I lay out an almost universal overview of the basic steps that virtually all techniques (TEKs) will go through in one form or another. It is vital for growers to have a good grasp of the basic fundamentals before moving on, so we will start off by laying the foundation here. I hope you all enjoy :)
I hope you all have a great day or night!

what is the problem details : I'm a first timer and i have 5 shoe box all of them with full of pins 90% of the surface covered even the sides but they stop growing after 3-5 cm and they just start dropping spores.... PES Amazonian and GT .. probably i'm doing something wrong because of both my strain is the same.
Do you know if I can eat those fresh juvenile gt's they popped up recently and I want to try one there less than an inch
When?
Quick question, I just set up a new UA-cam channel. I showed my mushrooms in fruiting. UA-cam removed my video saying it violates there policy? I have seen thousands of videos showing same thing?
Great info,lookin to learn more
Completed my first ever harvest this week. Your videos were an essential tool in my arsenal. Thanks for everything!
Great to hear! Thank you 😊
@@Mycophilia Can you pls make a video how you prepare brown rise? Thank you !
Can anyone sell me spores please I live in nsw
I'm at step 3. Mycelium is Abt 50% covered the top layer of substrate. How much light did you give after you transferred to substrate?
This is totally a video to refer to anytime there are those basic questions that always pop up! A perfect way to have it all at a glance. Well done!
🍄 💜 thank you 😊
Sage Sharing the REAL knowledge as usual..... No BS just real talk.... Love it man 👍🏻
Thank you Shroomboy! 🍄 💜
I've gone to the next level and built a flow hood and did my first LC. I have the ingredients to do argar plates so I can test how we I'm doing with my sanitization. I also brew my own beer so I'm familiar with the sanitization process but sometimes its easy to forget a simple step. Have been using a food safe no rinse sanitizer I use for brewing to prep my small containers and liners with and good success so far.
Peace ✌
Nice comment. I was kinda sparked when you said you brew beer and used food grade non rinse sanitizer for your tubs. I make wine and use Sulfite tablets to sanitize my wine making gear. Is that what you were referring to? Appreciate any tips you might have. Beer brewing is more exacting than wine when it comes to sanitation so just wanted to see what you use. Mush appreciation.
Hello everyone! Sage mentored me. He is an excellent teacher! You will not be disappointed! Sage, I'm going to love this series as I'm doing shoeboxes now. Thank you! 😊

Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it, there’s a long road ahead!
Great stuff as always Sage. Been distracted for the last couple months but great to see this series being dropped. Cheers!
Hey Mac! Great to see you here, just like old times! 😊
I can't wait to see this series finish!
bro thank you 🙏 this video is the best for people wanting to learn with all the bs aside.
Looking forward to the series. Thanks Sage!

Sorry for the double comment - this is for all the folks out there new and old.
In this video sage mentions his genetics. I for one can vouch for the quality here. After dealing with several vendors I can confirm that sage's spore collection technique is CLEAN as a whistle. No contams from these swabs. Not only that but priced well, thoughtfully prepared and packaged.
So for anyone unsure about where to start stick with sage and you will be swimming in fruit before you know it.
Thank you Ben! Much appreciated brother
Stared my journey today by reading the comments in this video I’m going to trust you and watch all your videos 😁
THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE! Im looking to getting into growing and this was great. I grew some many years ago. I ordered a kit out of the back of High Times mag some 20 years ago called the "Homestead mushroom kit", and they turned out great. Now I'm looking into making it a hobby.
Right on! Homestead had some GREAT genetics, namely their PE (now known as “Melmac”) :) I have some swabs available for purchase! If interested, please send me an email at:

@@Mycophilia Yes i'm defiantly interested. If im remembering correctly it was a Cambodian strain that came with my kit.. I was thinking of getting a strain called Penis Envy and Golden Teacher, are they beginner friendly strains?. Anyway is there a part 2 to this series or is that still in the works?
Sage! bless!
Hey Fefe! Thanks for watching 😊
I am really looking forward to this series. I want to grow mushrooms but there are so many different videos and they all have different, sometimes conflicting information and some seem to swear that you require super expensive equipment to do this. This channel is interresting and cozy. Thank you for the intro.
Nice! I’m filming part 2 currently. Will edit it tomorrow!
@@Mycophilia Sounds like I cam in just at the right time then! Thank you so much for your work.
Harvested my first flush yesterday. 30 gs dry :D. But really a terrible first flush, and I kinda stalled my other bins so I put them back in the spawning closet to wait for pinning.
Great video Sage! Looking forward to the rest of the series, I'm sure this will help and maybe even inspire some people. 🍄❤️

White board Tek!! Very much looking forward to the watching the whole series. Thank you brother.

This is the only video so far that has made any sense to me.
Appreciate it, and glad to hear that!
I saw 1/2 of 1 of your videos and decided you're the one I need to watch to sharpen up my techniques.....
Thank you 😊
i've watched about 20 videos and it is very useful to see the classifications of things written down
Glad to hear that

I personally like straw bales, i told you about my project using weed for bulk, which is doing great so far. I prefer straw bales because my fruiting chamber has a rack with lights top and botton. I get 360° of fun guy. No casing.

Great video man!!🎉
Thanks bro!
Great I'll be watching
ill be liking and commenting on a few videos today. im behind it seems🎉 time for the REeducation🎉
after uncle bens didnt work for me i switched to a no pour agar method from spore. and a hard shelled grain like oats that are more forgiving than rice i feel. i got my first flush from a monotub!
my costco monotubs dont seal as well as well as other brands so im having trouble keeping high humidity where i live. 90% of my pinnning happened at the sides due to the microclimate.
Love your drawing skills man...
🤣 thanks

How to make high yields?
If you buy a kit with the ready spawn can you innoculate to grain to get more spawn?
Yes, that is known as a “grain to grain” (G2G) transfer.
NICE UPDATE 👍
So I have these nocked bags of PS azurescens and need some help going about growing these indoors
Check out some of holofractal’s work
Love the videos! Do you (or anybody that you know) check the PH levels of your substrate before you add spawn? I’m sure I’m overthinking it since most spawn appear to be quite strong when they’re ready to birth. But it’s my first time going the monotub route and just wanted to make sure I’m not underestimating the sensitivity of spawn. Many thanks!
Nope never have with coir, the only time generally when you should be checking your pH is if you make your own casing layer, which is something done for exotics. Since you’re new just don’t worry about casing layers, not necessary at all for coir lovers.
Thanks 🍄
@Victoriakarenka My growing success is an amalgam of information sources his being just one.
Hey great content! I just bought a 5lb bag from mushroom supplies and B+ isolated spores from ITW. Im gonna set the bag up in my closet. My thermometer says it’s 72 degrees in there. Would you recommend putting a heating pad under the bag? And if so would you introduce the heating pad immediately after injection or when the mycelium spreads? Just looking for your advice. Keep up the good content.
Edit: also if you don’t mind…. Would you inject the entire syringe into that 5lb bag? Kinda thinking about it. I also read I could inject in a few different spots to speed it up? Thanks anyways!
No heating pad. Don’t know if you know but you will get 10% off and support this channel by using the code “Mycophilia” at ITW!
Yes you can inject the whole thing

Hey man I see a few videos here and there where people will still harvest their mushrooms if there’s contamination in their cake, but can’t find any videos about weather you can or can’t use/eat the mushrooms that have contamination on their cakes, can you please help me out here you legend
It depends on the contamination. If it’s trich or penicillium mold, I would harvest it as long as it’s not growing on there. Other types of molds, I would not harvest. It’s really a case by case basis. If a tub smells funky due to bacteria or yeast, I would harvest them but make sure to boil them well before eating, just to be safe.

how do i grow on a budget D:
//mcclendontripz//l
The next video will be on the necessary supplies. One thing I would not skimp out on is the bare basics, which I include a pressure cooker/Instant pot as one. It’s a one time investment that will open all the doors. Everything else is pretty cheap, you can get PCs pretty cheap as well if you look around.
Thank you for your videos, they are very good!!! A question about the light issue? What type of light do you recommend? Greetings from Barcelona and happy 2024
Ambient room light :)
Most times I use manure I get contamination
I'm getting so many side pins in my 1st grow bag. Would it be ok after my 1st flush to move the whole cake into my max yield bin?. I'll put perlite on the bottom, foil on top, cake on foil coated in vermeculite...
What is your take on all in one bags? like the magicbag?
Do not recommend

I would like to, but I don’t have much experience dealing with a big infestation. I’ve only dealt with small ones, so if I were to talk about it, I would like more experience first.
Ep. 2 please, sir
Ep. 2 is already released! It's the 2nd most recent video :)
@Pham_smart11
I know its an older video but hoping you see this. Mostly commenting because of your jabs at Reddit haha. So I will be going out of country for a month. I have a grow bag that is getting close to fruiting conditions but not there yet. My problem is, I wont have time to fruit and harvest before I leave. Reddits advice was to wrap the bag in tin foil and put it in the fridge to slow the growth until I get back then fruit. But your video says the fridge is bad. Just trying to see if I can salvage this grow. I did not expect it to take this long. Whoops
No need to wrap in foil, you can just put the bag in the fridge and spawn when you return. The mycelium will be weakened, but if the spawn is clean chances are good it’ll put out at least a flush.
@@Mycophilia Will the tin foil help keep everything clean? Other people use the fridge so I just want to give it the best shot
Do you spray with the mist the substarte after you mixed it up?
Yep
Because I trust your methods and experience I have a question that I can't seem to get a consensus on.
My grain bag is just about completely spawned (I'm at about 26 days since inoculation) but I have some travel plans coming up. My spawn is ready now but my concern is that if I go to the next step and transfer to my tub, I will be away when its time to put my tub into fruiting conditions.
My ideal solution would be to leave everything as is, in the grain bag until my travel is over (7 more days). My questions is, how long can I let the spawn hang out in the grain bag?
If it’s just 7 days, just leave them be and spawn them when you get back.
When is your book coming out?
😁 TBA!
Thanks!
Thanks Hodgy!
Thanks!
Thank you! 😊
Np thank you
Why do you recommend just coco coir over cvg? I haven't tried just coir, but I'm assuming maybe less contamination drawbacks and negligible difference in fruiting vigor?
The second part yes, absolutely no perceivable differences in fruiting performance. I haven’t used verm in many years. There is no contamination risk as they are all non-nutritious.
I have a random question. Could I not use the shoebox lid instead put it in a very large zip lock bag?
Yes you can use any bag as long as the conditions are met for the substrate. A good balance of airflow and humidity retention.
@@Mycophilia now to find a bag large enough lol
Never grew before, I'm just inquiring, is there a standard size recommendation for growing box(monotub?) to substrate ratio? for example, a qt of substrate to a 4qt shoe box container? i dont know if im asking this right
My video on substrate ratios are made exactly for these questions :)

Thanks for your time and knowledge. I'm new to growing so I was wondering when the tub is in 'Birthing' are you supposed to have the tub in complete darkness until you put it in fruiting? or is it ok to have the tub exposed to ambient light while birthing? I see/hear so many conflicting videos on how to do this that it gets confusing. Thanks
They don’t grow in caves. Light is totally fine.
@@Mycophilia Ok. thank you.
Nice video... Discord? 👀👀
I have a question: so i just inoculated my millet spawn bag yesterday, and after injecting the spores (which are gray and hard to unclump) I stupidly broke up the bag after injecting. Idk why i did this but i was wondering if that harmed the spores? Will mycelium grow?
Yes it can still grow, give it at least a week
@@Mycophilia ok thanks, and also if it doesn’t grow after 7-10 days, can i reinject spores into the same bag of grain?
Is a light source necessary for fruiting?
No
No “over complication” looking at that whiteboard made me laugh
If you think this is bad, it’s a good thing you’re not starting a few years back!
Just taste tested a gram and the flavor was barely noticeable. I felt a little rush from the spices and that was it. I think something might be wrong with me.
Could be that or the fruits if you started from Multispore. Bunk flushes are a thing
When do you water them? Do you have to?
Check out my nightclub channel (link in description), I have a video called misting and watering during fruiting :)

That’s what I’m after
(LC) .
Do you know a legit vendor for LC syringes? By chance 🌞 Thank you!
Check out in the description, 10% off with the code “Mycophilia” at checkout!
What is the difference between LC and MSS?
Liquid culture is mycelium, MSS are spores (yet to become mycelium)
@@Mycophilia thank you for the clarification. I will always try to use LC.
Sir i want written context icant understand ur acsent.please.
How serious is inhalation of spores when fruiting?
Depends on any pre-existing conditions, but if you inhale spores over a long period you will develop increasing sensitivity (and thus side effects)
Where can i get the materials guys? thanks
It’s in the description!
Very informative vid. thank you @@Mycophilia

Why does everyone use brown rice instead of white rice? Is there a drawback to using white rice? I'd like to know because I always have white rice in my house, I'm Asian lol I don't want to go out and have to buy brown rice
No nutrition in white rice
@Mycophilia ok thank you
How much air do you really need?
If you had contamination wouldn't it spread?
Yes if you have mold especially, you should dump it or with certain species of molds you can let them go a little longer, but if you do that then you should quarantine it.
Do I really need a fan to blow around?
What is the name of the mushrooms in the Thumbnail?
Too many videos. Where are the bulk growing in mono tub explanations? I don’t even see the shoe box how-to’s.. Very limited time, but if videos are there I can tune in while busy with other things.
This content is free to you and he personally doesn’t have the ability to organize it. It’s how UA-cam sets it up. It’s a garbage interface. Let’s be happy he’s providing the content to us and does such a good job of explaining it.
@@ArtsyPrettyPlants Wellpers, you’re wrong on two accounts. I pay for UA-cam Premium, so you could say it’s not exactly free, but I know what you mean.
You can for sure organize all the videos into categories you create, and then put them in whatever order you want in any of those categories. Nothing “garbage” about it.
I’m looking for specific content. It should not be that difficult to find if this is what he does. The video title says “how to grow….”, yet it doesn’t tell anything about the process. It’s misleading, or just false. I assume if he has this, then there has to be one that’s actually a how-to.
@shaneh1003 You do have a point about the title. I suppose An IntroductionTo Growing Mushrooms at Home may have been more appropriate. But I personally very much appreciated the introduction conversation because it's an intro to a series and now I know exactly what to expect for the upcoming videos. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
And yeah, I forgot about "Playlists", but that's because UA-cam's interface is garbage. It's compete garbage, as a user/searcher- especially. But also for someone making video content. That's Google for ya.
If mushrooms were talking about love manure how come they’re able to grow on green and fruit in vermiculite and Coco core bulk
Or BRF cake
Neither one has manure in it
Some species can only grow with manure to have strong healthy mushrooms. In the case of coir lovers, this is not the case. That’s why I recommend using only coir for those.
@@Mycophilia
Do you add any gypsum or any other sources of food vermiculite?
