A lot of those mental blocks were because of the media piling stress on him with finger-pointing. Petterson would read into that shit too much, and he took it very personally. It wasn't until Petey put his social media on pause, that he started to come around. For Tocchet, it's very personal, because he's spending lots of time with Petterson, essentially acting like a counselor (They've had a lot of walks together along Ambleside, and the Sea Wall), and the finger-pointing is also a shot at Tocchet's character and ability to coach. The fact of the matter is, Petterson has been playing better as of late, and he's got the results to back it up.

Well obviously not. People rag on Petey so much but he scored a goal and got an assist and he's also very defensively reliable. He's not quite as dynamic offensively as he used to be but I think that's the system. He's transforming into a Bergeron type of player I think

It's a good take even if the Coach was half-kidding when he said it. IMO, this is a good sign for the organization to not feed the Piranhas. Petey doesn't respond to getting more pressure thrown onto his back.. He needs to try and get comfortable which is different under a contract so huge. Maybe just my opinion, but 11 million$ a year isn't the only thing that makes a player awesome on a team. His teammates, the organization and the fans have to play the part in supporting him and not fall for the negative vitriol the Vancouver Press will put out there if you don't go on a scoring tear while your roster is decimated. He makes contradicting statement sometimes. He emphasizes simple play. But if the guy is not producing, he would say guy needs to be doing this and that, be aggressive, etc. But the thing is those pretty little passes he makes are not simple and sometimes risky but it yields a goal, he is quick to react if Petey makes mistakes.
