We danced this during high school and I suddenly remembered the song today. Though I already forgot the steps, I would never forget the feeling of dancing to this melody.
Just had to let something out. I started ballroom dancing when I was 6 and for waltz this was our main theme, I still know it completely. Dance was my passion and love and I dreamt about being able to be a profesional competitor one day. When I had gotten older, around 11,i had a partner who was violent and twisted my arm. After that, I gave up on dancing. It wasn't just his fault tho, I was getting more and more disappointed within myself.I am now 16 and I often think about how much to this day I love dancing even though I haven't been pursuing it in the last 5 years. But listening to this song makes me sob every time I, just like now, because I know that even if I went back I won't be able to catch up to dancers my age. Besides, I have to focus on academics and getting into a college abroad. I wasn't incredibly gifted, but I was pretty good and I know I had potential. It hurts so much when you're so young but you have to kill your dreams so early.
I will write this because i think it wouldn't be useless for you to read it... I started dancing when i was 16 (i wasn't a good student anyway). I started that late literally because i was introduced to this type of dancing that late. So at first glance i realized that i want to participate in this. Up to this day, I'm 21 and I'm still dancing and i freaking love it. But to be honest, it doesn't fit well with the university sadly... The truth is that I'm happy i didn't stop dancing when i went to university because i doubt i would have studied more than i am studying now. The thing i wanted to say is It's never too late and if your soul is dancing, you better let it dance. You probably will not become the world champion (just as i wouldn't)... But does it matter ? If you like it, do it. Its hard to fit any sport to a student's schedule but this one sport is worth it.
My friends and I chose the Waltz for our dance unit, and we were originally going to use the Great Blue Danube as our music piece, but it was too fast and really, we only had a few week's time to learn the waltz. So we chose this instead and it was perfect!
I absolutely love this music....makes me want to dance dance and dance...however Id love to be able to play the violin. Im disappointed I didn't learn when I was young. Can anyone tell me is it possible to learn when we get older. Im 50 now. ... has anyone out there known people my age that have picked it up. :)
+michelle j Penny (long reply sorry!) There are so many stories of adults picking up an instrument and learning to play! You are certainly not alone in that regard for wanting to learn music now, and I truly hope you pursue it! There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING holding you back from learning music other than your own attitude and patience (which will be a struggle). There are plenty of articles (and a book!) already online about this topic, which I hope you will be inspired from: Never Too Late: My Music Life Story - John Holt (Amazon book) www.amazon.com/Never-Too-Late-Musical-Story/dp/0201567636 Never Too Late to Learn an Instrument - NPR www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=98754560 6 Reasons Learning an Instrument as an Adult is Easier than You Think - Huffington Post www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/06/playing-an-instrument_n_4903835.html Music is such an amazing hobby, as I have played flute for a number of years. For me personally, the scary part of my life is finding ways to stay involved in music as I get older. I am honestly scared of a life without music because it means so much to me, but I know that at least I can have lessons with my own teacher. It might seem like it's not as easy to find these opportunities as an adult, but there are many people, especially for violin, who can give lessons. The ironic thing to remember is that every single musician, professional or not, had to start from knowing nothing about how to play music too. The only difference is that they have been practicing for much longer, and that you chose to start later in your life. Practicing can seem like the hardest part of learning because it tests your patience. Please pursue music, and I hope you have the joy of making music like I have been fortunate enough to have. Also, if you don't want to buy a violin straight away, there are many music stores that will rent instruments to you.
+michelle j Penny : My uncle began learning the violin at age 50 and now not only plays, but also makes violins and now own a music store! This after being an engineer for decades. It takes a lot of hard work, but can be done! :-)
Old-Fashioned Mother Thank you...:) sometimes we just don't believe in ourselves enough. I'm just getting over a hip replacement and broken wrist bones and heel bone. Its been a rough past 3 months for me but as soon as my wrist is ok I'm going to sort out an instrument to learn. Id love it to be the violin :)
Alysa M Hi Alysa thank you for your reply. Iv been in hospital again but as soon as wrist heals I'm going to sort out an instrument to learn. Thank you so much for the information and encouragement. :)
