Man the Australian bands of the 70's was a period like no other. Rose Tattoo, Cold Chisel, The Angels, Hoodoo Gurus, The Divinyls, Daddy Cool, Masters Apprentices, Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs, The Saints, Australian Crawl, the list just goes on and on. So much talent at the same time, we were spoilt growing up then.
Dave my friend, that is one MAGNIFICENT list of bands you threw up then. And I'm old enough and lucky enough to have seen them ALL in concert at least once!
@@aussierhino471 Thanks, there were more I could add to the list but I didn't want my comment to be too long. Then you can add the terrific British and American bands of that era.
Stars, Air Supply, Dragon, Ted Mulry Gang, BlackFeather, Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons, Mental as Anything, Skyhooks, etc, etc, etc. As you say, the list goes on and on. The quality of Australian pub rock was exemplary and and no one outside of Australia and New Zealand knew about it.
Lead singer Angry Anderson also became very famous in Australia for his charity work, raising money for children's charities. He was a tough guy who went to water when it came to helping sick kids.
I'm glad you mentioned this. Angry came to visit the kids at Ronald McDonald House when I was staying there with my son. There were no cameras or anything. He just seemed to love doing that type of thing and it was a real treat for everyone.
Another great pub band Rose Tattoo are an Australian rock and roll band, now led by Angry Anderson, which formed in Sydney in 1976. Their sound is hard rock mixed with blues rock influences, with songs including "Bad Boy for Love", "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw", "Nice Boys", "We Can't Be Beaten" and "Scarred for Life". Their first four albums were produced by Harry Vanda and George Young who also worked with AC/DC. They disbanded in 1987, subsequently reforming briefly in 1993 to support Guns N' Roses on an Australian tour. They reassembled again from 1998 and have since released two more studio albums. According to Australian rock music historian Ian McFarlane, Rose Tattoo are "one of the most revered bands of all time. The Tatts played peerless, street-level heavy blues with the emphasis on slide guitar and strident lyric statements". Guns N' Roses, L.A. Guns, Keel, Nashville Pussy, Motosierra, Pud Spuke, Helen Schneider, Skrewdriver, and the Uruguayan band the Knight's Night have covered Rose Tattoo songs. On 16 August 2006, they were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame. RIP Having seen cancer claim the lives of five of his Rose Tattoo bandmates (Dallas Royall, Peter Wells, Ian Rilen, Lobby Lloyde and Mick Cocks), Anderson has become an advocate for men's health. He appeared in a TV campaign promoting awareness of prostate cancer. On 4 November 2018, Anderson's son Liam was killed in an attack in a park in Queenscliff, New South Wales. Peace out
Angry Anderson, there is a name from the past. Still gets around doing cameo's from time to time in TV series like Fat Pizza and Housos. He is old school Rock N Roll
Yes in his later years he has done a lot plus losing his son the way he did was devastating. But in his younger days he was an arrogant a'hole but talented over anything else
He was made for that role! “Ironbar” with that creepy cultural mask over his head! When he came on, everyone in the theatre cheered and shouted out “Bad boy!” 😂😂
Finally!!!! So glad you get to hear one of our greatest secrets. One of my best mates was a roadie for these guys and he passed away a few years ago. I always play Rose tattoo on his anniversary and have a few drinks in his honour and the one song I always play is "One of the boys" because he was, just one of the boys. I'd love to see you react to the studio version of this song mate. I've been a follower for a long time now and can't afford patreon as I'm on a disability pension but you are a true gentleman with great taste in music as you have proven during your crash course in Aussie music 😁
Angry Anderson is a fiercely intelligent man. When the Tatts first toured America, he said the music industry there at that time (producers and bands) were shocked by how aggressively Australians played guitar. (This is perhaps the same scenario as Cold Chisel experienced when they wanted to tame them down to suit an American audience). Angry Anderson is quoted as saying “No one attacks a guitar like an Australian.” Randall Waller is the guitarist wearing the singlet in this video. He used to play guitar at the fellowship I went to when I was a young teenager. He would have been in his late teens but even then it was clear he was outstanding at his craft. He used to practice until his fingers blistered up then he’d pop the blisters and soak his fingertips in methylated spirits until they hardened up and then go again. He has worked the likes of Keith Urban, Rodney Crowell, SheDaisy, Shania Twain, and obviously Rose Tattoo. I’m so happy you saw this band for who they are and loved them. 😍😃
Saw Rose Tattoo on Friday night and they were brilliant as always. Angry, the lead singer, is into his seventies and has a new lease of life with this new band. Well worth seeing.
Love the Tatts, one of my favourite songs along with The Butcher and Fast Eddie. Angry Anderson had quite a popular solo career too, his track Suddenly was a very popular wedding song
Aussies 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺originally released in 1978. Lead singer Angel Anderson sings loud! We love it. His name is Gary Stephen Anderson. Another true Pub rock band….
Rose Tattoo were a band that Guns N Roses were fans of. You should listen to "Scarred for Life" from them. The Tatts were the bad boys of Oz Rock...i think at least two band members did time but ironically, Angry is known for his great charity work in Australia, particularly with kids.
Angry Anderson Aussie legend he was also in one of the original mad Max movies guns and Roses were highly influenced by his band rose tattoo and used to get there records imported to the us
Oh hell yeah! Love the Tatts - they've been one of my most favourite Aussie bands since the emerged in the '70s... and I actually think (sacrilegious I know) that I prefer them over Chisel.
The bass player here (Matt Cornell) was in my old cover band back in the 90s..he was way too talented for us and soon moved on to bigger and better things, Shannon Noll, Baby Animals, Matt Finish, the Tatts, and many others. Has some very decent solo cds out
I like his playing on here. He is a bit busier than most Tatts players but I love it. I'll be using some of his runs next time I play it (next Friday as it happens).
@@Mrmikey0909 holy crap, I wasn't aware of that. Felt like only a few years ago I went to see him play in the front room of The Greyhound Pub. He was an angry bloke with his band swearing and cursing and threatening to walk out on them. But the music was awesome. But now that I think about it, it was nearly 20 years ago.
I've seen these guys a few times, including opening for ZZ Top at Festival Hall in Melbourne a few years ago - before it was taken over by the happy clappers :-( They are awesome and don't get enough credit for being a one of the most sensational blues-hard rock bands still going around. They have so many great songs. Not everyone's cup of tea though!
Not to mention he starred in Jesus Christ Superstar with John Farnham, Kate Cebrano and John Steven in 1992 as Herod, and in Mad Max Thunderdome in 1985. Also toured with The Party Boys with Jimmy Barnes brother Swanee I believe.
Im actually good mates with Paul demarco the drummer that you see there im 20 years old and currently set up his drums whenever they play a gig in Sydney glad to call him a mate of mine such a top bloke
Angry Anderson also sung "Herod's Song" in the same production of Jesus Christ Superstar that also featured Jon Stevens, Kate Ceberano and John Farnham.
Pub rock in Melbourne early seventies friday night saw AC/DC for $7 and saturday night saw Rose tattoo for $5. For every artist or band that makes it on the world stage there are hundreds that dont but deserve to and there are those who are so much better than the ones that made it. AC/DC was my favourite band of the period and still are for pure rock but there were several bands playing the pubs at the time that were just as good. The music business is a cruel game.
It's funny you love his voice on this one but not so much his solo song "suddenly". I went looking to see if you reacted to any rose tattoo after listening to your suddenly reaction
One of the hardest working, hardest blues rock pub ever to grace a stage and anyone who seen them will never recover, Rose Tattoo is not for pussy latte drinkers, this shit will start a riot with right booze mixed in. These lads played in places where tables and chairs are bolted down so they don’t get used as a weapon, places where the bouncers had Rottweilers with them in case it got really out hand, places where you wipe the blood off your feet when leave the venue, if you wake screaming that you trapped in club that feels like your in hell, Rose Tattoo has played there. The pub and club scene in Australia in the 70’s and 80’s was no place for the social drinker, you went out with one thing in mind, and that was to get totally fucked up and listen to rock and blues, we used to be able to buy a full tray of bourbon and coke EACH! , 10 of the fuckers on a plastic tray for yourself for $20 and the bartender didn’t say a word, we did this because getting to the bar was like playing a game of rugby league, sometimes you would come back with blood on you and you didn’t know if it was yours or someone else’s, good times

Guns and Roses were named after Rose Tattoo. Rose Tattoo supported them regularly when visiting Australia
This man is over seventy and still kicking it, bad to the grave! Yes the singer is Angry Anderson, been touring for 35 yrs plus as you might guess.
Angry Anderson also had an acting roll in the movie Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunderdome along side Tina Turner and Mel Gibson.
