Great stuff Dave. just three more, please film them all.
Will do Kevin 👍
That dialed in very nicely mate, well done.
Thank you 😊
Very interesting Dave ,never seen a bubble arch fitted, and with little distortion, well doe
Thank you Alan 😊
Excellent work Dave, turned out nicely 👍
Cheers Neil 👍
Evening Dave the gas man in his cave 😂 Parked up for the night in my lorry in Buckley North Wales 🏴 So nothing better than relaxing too the Escort Mk1 video 👍🏻 Absolutely fantastic job on the bubble arch 🤩 You deserve every single subscriber 😊
Thanks Stevie 😊
Brilliant little series on the escort Dave....gotta say you look like the Welsh Arsene Wenger tho 🤣
Oh Dave this one had me on the edge of my seat… but again you cracked it, nice work mate, it’s coming along nicely, only 3 more to do 😅👍
🤣
Absolutely Amazing, please always kneel on some foam or something...
I do have a bit of foam kicking around, I must try harder to use it 😊
Great work Dave!
Liked the video before even watching, great channel 👍🏻
Great job Dave, I'm doing mine next year and will be using your video as a guide
I hope they help 😊😊
well done nice job one down only 3 to go
Be nice to find someone as skilled as you where I live in Australia. I certainly wouldn't tackle this myself. Have been given estimates by shops who haven't specifically done this work and they want $8k-$10k (halve that to get pounds). Sounds quite steep. I'm not sure if that's because they're not confident. I'd then have to paint it.
Oooff!!
Impressed.. I put a little triangle at the bottom of each corner of the arch and also bent up the inner lip for strength, also so i could fit 9j wheels in on the axle, doesn't really collect alot of crud,.and if it did just pull it out, all part of the fun of the escort.. butting the arch up to the quarter is something I've never seen done, but does make sense...
Looking forward to the next vid..👍
Thanks 👍
Great work Dave. Can’t wait to see your shrinker stretcher in action. Bubble arch looks fantastic, no warping… shows your skills mate other side to go
Thank you Mick
i would reinforce the arch ends to the body as the arch itself it forms an important rear body strength member, especially since your tub design isnt the bowl syle with inherent strength any more. Also that lip edge thats turned down slightly inside the arch i would gently form that upwards with a hammer and dolly as it helps strengthen the lip. just my thoughts.
Marvelous work👍
Brilliant work 😮
Another interesting video from you again. Thanks and keep them coming soon. 👍
That was brilliant, again I could have watched that in real-time. I had to do my welding outside in the summertime when there was no wind to blow away my shielding gas, so also had the problem of sunshine coming in through the back of my mask. I solved this by gaffer taping an old black tee-shirt to the back edge of my mask and draped it back over my shoulders...was so successful its still there 3 years later! Your head lamp is a brilliant idea! I think you will get a lot of use from you shrinker/strecher, Elin Yackov uses his all the time, however Tony Fitzpatrick surprisingly doesnt have one?
Thanks Neil, yep, welding outside is a pain, finding that when I work on the Manta. Gaffer taper fixes all 😊
Good work Dave as usual
Good end result Dave good luck with doing the other side. Should be not so bad as you have learnt through the experience of doing this one.
Thank you Derek 😊
Terrific job Dave, 👍
great job dave i used similar method deseaming a mini i lead loaded the welded seam and finished with very fine layer filler never had any cracking etc
Hi Dave, great news about the shrinker/stretcher would love to own one, but shouldn't (in theory!) have a lot more use for one now. Anyhow, the job has turned out absolutely first class, well done mate. BTW, you will find that the Tigerseal will go off in the tube very rapidly. I've tried all manner of ways to try and prolong the life of it but they have all failed. I have thrown more half tubes of that stuff away than I care to remember. Just read all the comments and the one about the motivation I can definitely agree with, you are an inspiration to us all. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Thanks Bob, I'll have to get on with the other side quickly then 🤣
Amazing work looking great. Just scares the crap out a me every time the whole car moves occasionally! I keep expecting a massive bang and for it to suddenly drop,to the floor cos I forget it’s on the rotisserie.
Top job fella coming along nicely 👍
Very good job mate
Great work Dave. Look forward to seeing the shrinker stretcher in action . Another tool for the workshop, happy days!!
Thanks Richard 😊
Looking good Dave
good job Dave 👍👍
Keep up the good work
Brilliant job Dave coming lovely well done 👌👌
It was good to hear how long it took to do the arch. I look at this and others and think why does it take me so long. What / where did you get the torch on your welding helmet? That’s exactly what I need so I can see what I’m doing.
I'm getting a lot of questions about the torch, I should do a video about it. It's a hiking type head torch bolted on.
@@DavesGarageuk yes if you could please, it gives such a good light, something I struggle with
Great work so far. As for strengthening the arch at the bottom, instead of a triangular piece that will catch crud what about spanning with a rod so that most mud/dirt will fall through?
Good idea ta
Great video arch looks brilliant look forward to next video top work dave 👍😀
great job dave
Good job again Dave other side now lol
Great work Dave nice to see it coming along 👍
Another job jobbed Dave now onto the other side, you will see the light at the end of the tunnel buddy
Thanks, have you done anything with yours recently?
@@DavesGarageuk funny enough in there today, it's been a while tho lol
@@DavesGarageuk tell you what Dave mine is a nightmare at the moment, took drivers inner wing of yesterday and wow so many botched jobs already made not sure what's right or wrong. So I have no starting point. I also think chassis rail is either twisted or raised, I looked to purchase 2 new ones and wow £600.00 a pair. Never ending lol
@@pattiboychannel311 ah sorry to hear that, I don't think there's any truly straight MK1's anymore. Yep the price on new rails is shocking 🙄
Thanks for another great episode Dave, you deserve all the success.
Thank you Ross 😊
Coming along nicely, good to see the first bubble arch on with great results on both the welding and bonding. Looking forward to seeing how what you've learned from doing it benefits fitting the other side, especially if the shrinker stretcher arrives in time to help.
I'll definitely be doing the other side slightly different now I'm armed with knowledge 😊
brilliant work Dave all the panels come together nicely spot on 👌👍
Thanks Sid
That looks amazing Dave can’t believe how far that cars come along mate it’s really gonna be something special can’t wait to see your vids I’m really enjoying this build 👍
Thank you, yep, it's starting to look like a thing 😊
Great stuff as usual dave 👏
Have the same problem with the light behind the helmet. I took a flap of some black cloth and fastened it at the back edge of the helmet that covers down the back side of my head, problem solved. How many lumens is your helmet light?
Good idea 💡
are you going to put hard coat undercoating in the wells or something else? Here in the states in high salt and sand you eventually will have failure on the undercoating but better than a rusted out new car in 3 or 4 years.
Planning on a 2K epoxy coating first, then gravitex coating over that.
Great workmanship Dave . Am watching your videos up here in Donegal the home of the Escort. I have a mk1 here all stripped out and mounted on a spit similar to yours . Hoping to get started soon . Am learning a lot of tips watching you . Keep up the great work
Thanks John, all the best with your project 👍
Shame you don't TIG weld Dave, as it would have been perfect for this job.
Also throw your tiger seal in a bucket of boiling water (especially this time of year), it will flow like hot butter then 👍
I'd like to have a dabble with tig welding, but the set up is pretty expensive, and I might be rubbish at it.
@@DavesGarageuk It does take some practice, but Im sure you would master it over time.
How do you keep your motivation going Dave ? My self and I’m sure many others lose interest n projects after a while and struggle to get motivated into it again
That's a good question, I do loose motivation at times, I find that just going in the garage just to tidy up, is enough to get going again.
Dave I love the way you fitted that arch, very nicely done. - (Will you apply more Tigerseal to the inside of the arch tub while you still have access?) This is my favourite shape Escort of all time…I had one in 1972 with bucket seats, but soon flogged it again for my first Capri, (mainly just for the reclining seats!)
I intend to use seam sealer on the inside. Mmmm reclining seats 😍
Did u centralise the wheel in the arch first ?
I have measurements from a genuine AVO shell, so went with them, I've since fitted the rear axle and leafs ect, all looks good
Great vidios can you tell me where you got your welding helmet with the light on from please
Regards Tony
Hi Tony, it's just a normal welding helmet with a hiking type head torch bolted to it
Thans for your reply dave keep up the good work
Nice, are you going to lead load it?
Don't plan too, lead is pretty poisonous stuff 😬
@@DavesGarageuk My Nan lived to 93 with a lead water pipe cold feed.. I have done loads of lead loading on MGB half 1/4's also quite a few RR wing to scuttle joints..
🍺👏👍🏻
