We love visiting homes of previous homeowners that have opened up their homes to us, and so this week we are especially excited to be able to visit version 2.0 of Tobby and Kaiyi’s home. For those of you who are new to our channel, we first showcased their home in March 2021 (which you can view here: • Inside A Brilliantly C... )
This time, their home is a smaller but cosier space in Geylang Bahru. It’s a 3-room HDB which comes up to a size of 732 square feet. One of the first things they did was to hack away the wall to allow for more light in the living and dining area. Like their first home, they wanted a more raw and industrial look, and everything was self-designed again.
One of the most interesting bits of the home is the 3.5m kitchen island/dining. The dining table is actually made of wood, but in one of their DIY projects, the table was made to look like a cement table instead using art cement.
They also used terrazzo from their old house for the floor to serve as a reminder of their home. Likewise, they even were able to incorporate a small counter table by the window, which was another idea from their old place.
Special thanks to Tobby and Kaiyi for once again showing us around their new home. For more, please visit: / kayalotihq

Having a smaller but very well-utilized home is indeed so much more satisfying. Easier to maintain too!
Absolutely!!
@farasya handmade
Nope, you wouldn’t want a smaller place when you have children. Too cramp and could cause more family conflict.
I love their honesty, why they chose the house due to economy issue.
It is very beautiful to live in a childhood home too ☺️
I adore the bits they retained from the original HDB unit.. that sense of nostalgia is amazing.
We think so too! :D
It is so interesting to see two different homes of the same owners featured in Stacked Homes. I do admit I enjoyed their Home 1.0 because of the quirky features (the light switches, the faucet, the doorbell). I could still see glimpses of their likes (the shelf with vintage items) in their Home 2.0.... Nice to see them spending time together chilling over a cuppa at the kitchen window... Some things never change. =)
Thanks Sandra! Really keen insights, we're very happy to have them again!
i need to watch home 1.0!
@@mcgriddlesftw you can click on the description where there's a link to it.
No wonder I was like the previous home seems so familar 😄 now I was looking for it again to watch
Like 2 peas ina pod
. . the compatibility of the couple from colour of clothing to home taste is amazingly impressive. Love the financial practicality♥️♥️♥️ and raw boldness♥️. Thank You🌷
Thank you so much!
I like that they retained some of the old tiles , the 60s retro window grills, the chill out yard and that stainless steel coffee maker. A partial ventilated wooden partition would have soften the zones between the living and the working area.
wow. such a small space but it does not feel small. colors, vibes are absolutely stunning. industrial, retro, cafe vibes
This is a really nice flat! Unpretentious, modern, compact and functional. Love it! Good design occurs when it comes from within. Super.
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching, Judy!
Congratulations to KAIYI AND TOBBY.💐🌺🇸🇬
Wow! you're both very innovative and down to earth.
Each and every space is exceptionally designed.
It's very nostalgic to have retain the brick work to remind you of your childhood, how sweet of you.
Enjoy the peace and tranquility with passion and relish every loving moments together and forever and ever, ever.
❤️🌺💜🌺💝🌺🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
Thanks for your kind words! 😌
Loved owners' honesty. 👍, very positive!
Us too! 🥰
Wow home can really be made anywhere. Beautiful
Yes, true!
Nice. I think they really like and understand cement as an ID element. There's many variations of that they infused into the design. Cement screed, exposed beam, micro cement.
Thank you for watching!
I like the Service area with the space to have coffee looking out into the HDB carpark.
Yes, such a nice area to have coffee with a good view.
i love seeing how they are aware of every bit of the space to fully utilise and design them.
Really love this space, it’s so practical, cozy and has small details as well.
Thank you! 🥰
Love how practical you made your home for our lifestyle
Thank you for your kind words!
I love the neon " 开心就好‘’。
I love this house very very much... Each space is well utilized. ❤️
Yes! A well utilised and spacious home indeed. Thank you for watching!
The best thing about this home is that it was his childhood home, I've recently done something similar with my childhood home in America. I love that the home is cozy but very functional and they kept the 2nd bedroom and table island is great
single singaporean buying a 3 room HDB Resale here. I love the simplicity of this place and I'm planning to incorporate your design elements and thought. thank you for sharing!
Sounds great!
Looks spacious after the hacking and love the minimalist look.
It is!
the scribble wall for meal plans is neat! I'm totally stealing that idea. LOL
Love this home! The warm color theme is very well coordinated and seen throughout the entire space. 💕
Thank you very much, Sally!
Very beautiful personal place. I like that theres no clear theme
Yes I agree 🤩
oh i like the 开心就好 LED lights on the wall!
It's really nice and it lights up nicely at night!
Live Laugh Love, Chinese version. Lol
Well done! Congratulations to DIY your home.
Your home is so beautiful - I'm in awe and in love. Well done!
Thank you so much!
Like the coffee room 👍
Us too!
Very nice estate indeed! Nice western food at the hawker center! 😃 the design really made sense for young couple, been seeing many 3 room resale flats being done this way (hack bedroom to have bigger living room along the corridor windows). Just one thing I trying figure out is with only 1 bedroom so many couples not planning to have children? 😅
I love your home! Both the previous one and this new one. I think your thoughtfulness of embedding the tile pieces of the old home into the new flooring is so ingenious and really gives meaning to the home. The industrial touches are amazing as well, how they fit so seamlessly into the design. Do you guys do your own design? Or did you engage an interior designer? Would love to know as my hubs and I are setting up our new home in a couple of years :)
Thank you so much for your kind words, Pris! :D
I love your idea, simple and elegant. Thumbs up
Thank you! 😊
Watched this and the Home 1.0! Love their consistency! Lovely WFH chair and table setup and the new long kitchen island is 😍 hope you both have a smooth journey out of this financial downturn!
Thanks so much! 😊
Nice! I like how you guys actually opt for the window grille that looks like the original that came with the flat initially.
Glad you like it!
Looks great!
It does!
Love the terrazzo reuse!
We love it too! 🥰
Love this. Elegantly simple and well thought out.
Thanks so much, Kathleen!
I LOVE THIS AND THIS COUPLE'S MINDSET
Thank you!
Such a charming home!
It really is! Thank you for watching, Jing 😁
The highlight is the 开心就好 on the wall at last sec of the video
Good spot!
Perfect if you replace the small frames with one huge frame in the toilet and bedroom
Love this cozy home❤️
A cosy home indeed! Thank you for watching!
Lovely home
Thank you 😊
Ruben, I saw u last week at Marina Barrage... skateboarding 😄
Awesome!
That gap under the entrance door 😮
Something different, It adds a unique touch to the entrance! 😊
So nice!
Glad you like it!
Knocking down the store-room will create an even bigger master-bed room.
Thanks for sharing!
I got some tips from the video. Thank you.
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching, Ethan 😄
Really awesome!
Thank you!
Love your house, beautifully renovated and decorated... congrats :)
Thank you for watching!
This is beautiful 😍😍😍😍.
It really is!
@@StackedHomes 😊
the bathroom doors are so unique, first time I see doors that open and slide...
Thank you for watching, Cédric!
@@StackedHomes what should i search for if i want a door like that? "sliding folding door" doesn't give anything like in the video :(
My house 3 room flat has the same format like yours.
Very nicely done
Thank you very much! 🥰
your accent is contagious, you SGP people, I cannot watch too many videos or i will start speaking like you! hahaha
Haha thanks for sharing that!
Very nice 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice
Muito bonita a vossa casa!!❤😊
I definitely love the layout but can't help but feel a tinge of sadness from their story and how it resulted in a downsizing. Hoping for the best for them
they are childless couple who just flipped their recently mop 4 room bto. can quit job go travelling .
i dont think they need your pity .
Cool house, cool couple :)
They are! Thanks for watching!
Where are the toilet doors from?
Very good taste
Thank you for watching! :D
Look very nice - where did you get the toilet door ?
What is the cost for knocking down the wall on your bedroom? I am still hesistant of doing that though it will open up the space drastically.
What’s the flooring finishes
Oh my I've been looking out for microcement diys but couldn't really find any online, any guides or tutorials that you guys followed?
Very creative concept. Is it safe to park their bicycle outside though?
Thanks for watching!
congrats on being on the show!!..haahah..ur follower...finally a chance to see ur hse..
Thank you for watching, Marc! 😁
Nice 👍
😍
what is the total cost of renovation to transform this flat from it's previous condition to it's current condition?!
this lady just learned the word 'actually' i think
Is embedding of pipes under the floor allowed by HDB?
Hello where to order that door when you enter the bathroom? Hehehe
May I know the name of ID? I also like industrial theme!
Hi can share who is the contractor for this? am planning to self-design as well. thanks!
😍
As population continue to skyrocket this will be the standard home of the future. Add inflation and less salary increase you will be left with no choice but to go small and minimal.
last time people have many kids. now? one or two only. You need a 5room to show off? Its not like Hong Kong where it is crazy expensive. any way, our population is going down actually.
@@zhen86 a lot of people are building houses that far exceeds their needs. Simply because they can afford to do so, the end result is somewhat like a home that doesn't feel like an actual home with a more personal connection to its inhabitants. A five room is understandable i guess since its for the future privacy of the children.
i think i need to ask what HDB means... i hear it in all SGP videos about housing so I know it is a special kind of building but not sure what the letters mean... :)
Hey it stands for Housing Development Board, but the term is just used broadly to refer to public housing in Singapore!
In Singapore there are three types of housing. One Public housing(build by Housing Development Board government board aka HDB),two condo(private house 99or freehold) third landed private house(99or freehold)
I was told that for a similar 3-room HDB flat layout but located at the top floor, you cannot hack the wall separating the living room from the common bedroom. Is this true?
ask hdb
Your house looks like a home office concept, not my style - I like colour but good job designing your own home!
Thanks for watching 😊
Geylang Bahru, how many year the lease this flat?
Wait they don’t have a kitchen hood for cooking?
kitchen hood is not a must, cooking smell is over rated.
👍👍👍
😁
Design aside, I ain't so sure whether it is financially smart to buy the house from his mum. Due to inheritance law, he is essentially forking out money that he doesn't need to.🤔
like their new place more than the last, but sad they did not bring over the alarm door bell hahahahhaha
Thank you for watching :D
it's not that raw industrial except for the odd unplastered wall or unlined concrete beam.
In the pus we oways think beeger is batter, bud having a smaller space now it is a bid cozier n there r no dead zones in the haos, we span the mose time configuring the layout of the haos cuz we belis is the bones of the place
Sgd50k...for this look???
knocking down stuff cost money. they also added doors to the "service yard". The new BTO service yard is just a separated kitchen.
I bet you guys bought quite cheap.
the old home:

😲
Corridor units are the worse
This is an APARTMENT, not a HOUSE. Singaporeans gotta learn how to stop using terms loosely.
Don't let Grandpa Lee see this. He would be very upset with childless lifestyles like these. lolol
Previous place looks much better, this is just.. Down right yucks..
I don't like Hindustrial theme
