This video was made to help any service members or families moving to Whidbey! NASWI is a great place to live and work. In this video I share some of my tips and experiences that would be helpful for a newcomer.
Be sure to visit my beautiful little town of Coupeville during your stay on the island!
Grace, my son is a Marine pilot currently stationed at Corpus Christi as a flight instructor. He is also a C-130-J pilot. Loved your inormation on Whidbey Island. My father was a WWII Navy pilot who was a flight instructor at Opa Locka in Miami and then stationed at Whidbey Island where he checked out on Lockheed PV -2 Patrol bombers. He then went to Johnston Atoll on anti submarine patrol. My son and his fiancé also a Marine Captain and Annapolis grad skiied Whistler last year. They get married next month in Jax Beach. She is a liasion between the Corps and Congressional Armed Services Committee with an apartment in Arlington. Your information was so nice. Will trained like you at Pensacola, Corpus Christ, Miramar, Then Hellmand Province Afghanistan, Iwakuni MCAS and back to Corpus. He will join a C-130 reserve unit when his active tour is through in May at Andrews Joint Base in Maryland. He has been hired by FedEx to fly for them. Hope i didn’t bore you but your presentation reminded me of who cool Navy and Marine women are.
So cool! I've lived on whidbey for 35 years and love it.
I was at Whidbey with VAH-123 and VAQ-129 Det 19 from 68 to 71. I was a flying plane captain. One of our birds A-3, is on display outside of the main gate.
Hi Sir, served at Whitney from 69 - 71 as an AE on the A-3’s, Heavy 10 and then VAQ 129, served with a great group of guys and at the best duty station in the Navy “imho”. Take care man
After living in Western Washington for the last 40 plus years, I agree that this area is wonderful.....its great that you are sharing your life in the military and the Pacific Northwest...Thanks
Definitely a great place. I was stationed there with VAH 10 which converted from A3's to VAQ 129 which used A6's. This was in 1970. I lived in the barracks, Oak Harbor, Anacortes, and back to Oak harbor.
Born and raised on Whidbey Island. A native. Love the photos of Coupeville. The base was constructed on farmland of my grand parents. A lot of free fun outdoor things to do there.
I love Whidbey Island! We visited there a few years ago during a visit to Seattle because my daughter and I are fans of the movie “Practical Magic” that was filmed in Coupeville, as you mention in the video. Such a charming community and beautiful area and we enjoyed searching for the different locations of the movie.
Was stationed there from ‘82-‘85 with VA-128 & VA-145. This was my best duty station.
So i just finished watching the video where you did the G force training. Of course, at first I thought exactly what everyone else thought....Wow, she is really beautiful! But You were so polite and respectful in that video and seemed so down to earth that within a few minutes of watching, I found myself feeling like we were friends LOL. Anyway, when the video finished, I was really wondering how your future went (as the G force video was while ago). Then, when I clicked on your UA-cam channel, I saw this latest video and I was almost brought to tears. I found myself overwhelmed with pride for you! Anyway, congrats on all you have accomplished. You are a true inspiration and I wish you nothing but more prosperity in all aspects of life!
simp less
I'm so jealous of your career - Thanks for your service from New Zealand - it's great to have an ally like the US on our side.
Grace, Thank you for your video. I was stationed at NAS Whidbey in the 1988-1995. Vaq-142, VAQ-35 then AIMD. I wish you the best and Rember FLY LOW FLY NAVY :-)
Stationed there seaopdet and COMVAQWINGPAC 1991-2000
My son, Navy Air Traffic Controller, was stationed there a couple of years ago. I got to visit twice. Beautiful area.
I was stationed at Whidbey 67-70 in both VA 128 and VA 196, These were A6 outfits. Lived on base till I got married and then lived in Coupeville till I got out of the Navy. Loved the area and the people.
Who ever marries this woman is one lucky man.
Simply amazing person
Love from MIA
Grew up here with EA6Bs and A6’s flying over my house…and the Blues when they were in town!
Stationed on "The Rock" from 1984 until 2003 continous. VA 128, VA95, VAQ129, VAQ140, VA128, VAQ139, VAQ128, VAQ129. I can remember when all of medical and all of dental shared the same small waiting room. Air terminal was in a wooden hangar. Barracks 7 first floor was the Jar Bar. BEQ 2701 was a softball field.. Oak Harbor had one stop light.. Lots of changes.. Whidbey used to be isolation duty.
Wow we might have bumped into eachother I was in SEAOPDET from 91-95 then COMVAQWINGPAC 96-99
I lived in the Seattle area for three years while working and traveling globally with Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, and owner of the Seahawks and Trail Blazers. A few days here and there on Whidbey at a friends family beach house was always a welcomed respite from the pressure cooker of the job! Loved watching the "Boomers" come and go, the Growlers coming home, catching salmon, and just relaxing on the deck, looking out at the ships coming and going. It's a special place.
Made Chief when I was stationed there in the early '90's. Great Chief's club back then.
I was stationed on ships most of my 5 years. I worked a NASW as a civilian for about 26 year. Lived in one of the beautiful old houses in Coupeville for 40 years, and loved it. I love the Island.
Glad you liked it also.
Wont gey a chance to be there so thank you. My uncle Nelson Daniels was stationed there during WWII. He was a pilot. He flew the old PBYs. He finished as a Comander in the Navy. We never knew he had a PHD until very recently.
My Son Cmdr Marc Stirton (ret) was a IP with the RAG VAQ-129 from 2011-2015. Retired as a full Commander. Now a F/O with Southwest Airlines.
Watched this clip a year ago. Just now realized that you Grace is the real life “Phoenix” of Top Gun Maverick. Nice! You could’ve played yourself in that movie.
So this is the famous lady in the g force video! Lol. I was at vaq 135 for my last stretch, the 2007-2008 deployment on the Nimitz.
Are you a ECMO? Smartest guys I ever met. I was in MAG-42 on the ground side. VMAQ-4 flew the EA6A , in the early to late 80’s. Most everything at Ault field was leftover from WW2 back then. Much more isolated, no internet, no cable, much smaller, small town feel with lots of tourists in the summer and almost nobody during the long winter. Nobody whined about noise as the RAG worked up to deploy but it was incredible noisy but seemed to be mostly confined to Ault. I loved it.
Sorry to hear you'll be leaving Whidbey Island. I was going to ask if you could give me a ride!🤣 I always wanted to fly in one of those! Thank you for your service Grace!
Thanks for the tour, my son was there in aVAQ now my granddaughters husband is three at Whidbey iland, thanks again Sailor.
Welcome to Whidbey, thank you for for your service.
I was there when the place was known as "Intruder Country" for the A-6''s. P-2 Neptunes were still seen on the flightline as well.
Went back in 2020 for the fist time, and besides the aircraft line-up the place really hadn't changed in nearly forty years. Shout out to VP-69 -- my father's unit.
You are a BEAUTIFUL role model for young ladies! GREAT Job
You are awesome. Thank you for your service.
Was stationed there from 1991-2000. Seaopdet and COMVAQWINGPAC
NASWI is one one if the most beautiful destination in WA. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I was stationed on Whidbey from 81-84 and loved it
Fantastic elegant and smart lady you are. Your videos are absolutely very interesting and thank you for sharing your experiences Grace…
War of the Rose's was also filmed in Coupeville..or part of it was and An Officer and a Gentleman was also filmed just south ot there at Ft. Casey.
I was stationed @ NAS Whisbey Is from Oct. of '89 through Oct. of '93 with VAQ-141 and VAQ-132. (AE3 Hunter)
Hello from Baltimore too! A career flying Growlers (are Growlers still considered Hornets when referring to the EA-18??) Just sounds so incredible... Bring us some more vids!
You should do more cockpit videos, training etc. your G-force training video had millions of views.
I drive by the Naval station three or four times a week.
I love seeing the fast Flyers overhead!
New follower here, USAF veteran. Hopefully you'll post more videos soon. 🇺🇸
👍 thank you! See you guys flying good stuff.
And don't forget during the summer some of the best biking is on Friday Harbor San Juan island. You can cruise all the way out to roach Harbor which is fantastic. A couple of friends in seal team 5 we were diving out there at a park east North East of roach Harbor. There's also other islands but that's my favorite.
Hello, beautiful Grace! Hope that you and your family are well! Not on FB anymore. We’re all well. Take care, love, and God bless, Mrs. C. 💖💖💖
Grace thank you for your service and to our God, Flag, and to our great nation. From another Veteran.
Grace - just saw you or some of your friends may be on the move - stay safe!
Was there 78/95. VA-52, VA-128 (TC-4C), VAQ-142 ( OG Plank Owner), VA-155. (Desert Storm) ,VAQ-131, AIMD. my heart is still there but it has changed.
This lady is amazing, keep up the great work Grace your a true patriot, and watch your 6 🇮🇪 ❤ 🇺🇸 ☘
So much action at Whidbey LMAO. I did small arms quals once at Whidbey, that was fun.
Loved bring stationed there, can't wait to get back
Retired Navy and 10 year resident (in Coupeville) writing here. Well done Grace. Allow me to add a few other things.1) .Island Transit is free to all and covers the whole island plus a connection to Anacortes. 2) Weather (rain) : depends on where you live - it might be pouring in one place and sunny in another; Coupeville is the sunniest thanks to the Olympic mountains rain shadow. 3) Speaking of which, the Olympic peninsula is worth a trip for hiking and camping and 4) For divers sine of the best cold water diving in the world is here from Puget Sound up and around the San Juan Islands.most But wear a dry suit or a 8mm wet suit.
Reportedly the globally famous “exploring diver” Jacques Cousteau also found these waters amongst his most favorite anywhere.
Funny the FRS for the Growler community and it looks like a bunch of growlers over her shoulder by the sink. Thanks for sharing your journey. The San Juans are beautiful. I had a chance to check them out when I was at Fort Lewis.
Loving the videos! Very cool!
Deception Pass and whidbey in general is beautiful. And good people too
Baltimore area here, great videos, you know how to live!
Oh that's where it is. I've flown down the coast out of Boundary Bay past there to RON in Portland before heading east many times. Guess I was too busy looking at the mountains every time not to notice it out there. :)
She is real.
My aunt lived in Whidbey island (as a kid i thought it was woodbee Island) and we'd visit taking the ferry. Was allot of fun, but once i remember we got bored andwe had to stay until next ferry later in the day
Still a very pretty young lady. And now pilot.
My husband is penciled in to go there in August..hope it'll be a good situation
I live on Whidbey. Literally 2 miles from the air strip. At night I can see the light from the tower on base. I’m not military and nobody in my family is but it’s pretty cool here. Lived here since I was 2 or 3. Not a lot of activities though.
The best NAS on west coast
I happen to live directly under a Growler flight path ( I assume for training excercises) in east Cascades foothills. I LOVE it. They come screaming overhead and it'll take you to your knees sometimes. 03/09/22 @ app. 1145, four of them came over fast; and low enough to cast a shadow over my house. About knocked me out of the bathtub. More please!
E-gads, no thank you.
@@birdlynn417 Ha ha! Not for everyone. I love it. Twenty years on and I can't get enough. They used to fly so low over my house that I'd receive double-wing nods if they saw me in my yard. I'd always jump up and down like the girl (old lady, actually) I am.
@@user-qr8ki8ue4i So that's what happens to ya all, huh?
Grace therese, también conocida cómo la mujer que pudo juntar a todos los tipos solitarios del mundo en una sola caja de comentarios, increíble.
Now that's funny!!!
1 hug from Brazil!
My cousin was station there. I was there for chamber and up date on the Martin Baker seat. Then on to Ft. Wainwright, Ak.
VAQ 129 1983 VAQ 138 Yellowjackets Line Division 1983-1988. I didn’t recognize most of the places that were in your video because of how much time has past.
Always love seeing the vids. Take care and be safe :-)
Officer and a Gentlemen - parts were filmed at NAS.
NAS Whidbey is in a beautiful location!
I live up north of you in Lynden, WA. Too many things out of doors to list!
Another upload🙌🙌
Great job bae! Ty for your service!
As someone from whidbey island DONT CRY ABOUT THE JET NOISE WHEN YOU COME HERE. THE NAVY WAS HERE FIRST.
I would love to live in that area. It's so beautiful. You're so lucky to be stationed there.
Looks lovely.
I subscribed Ma'am, great to see you!
Whidbey is the 2nd longest island in the continental US after Long Island, NY.
Damn Grace, I should've join the Navy instead of the Army. Stay beautiful and be safe.
I was stationed NAS Whidbey from 1964 to 68 ... I would have stayed after my enlistment was finished but Jobs .. or the lack thereof ... was an issue I went to Seattle and to work for Boeing
Be safe Grace. 😎
💐💐💐
You could easily pass as Kelly McGillis's sister, in her prime.
Ive never wanted to be a dependa so bad in my life. You are gorgeous!
When you deployed for long periods of time, you vacate the apartment each time? How that worked out for you? Do you use storage while deployed? What do you do with your car and car insurance while deployed? Sorry for too many questions.
I was with VAQ133 and VAQ129 from 1982 to 1989
Hey Grace, it's Ripper from Tiger King 2 here. Love your videos, keep up the great work. Yes, it's really me, you can easily verify my checking my channel I'm commenting from. Stay safe!
I love U Grace😍🤩😍🤩
Fun Hyperbaric chamber there, as least back in the day.
You are awesome‼️‼️
she is most beautiful with zero make up and natural hair !
I thought you looked familiar, I think I seen you at Linda's Cafe just outside pax NAS
I went though a survival school up there in 1968 is that school still there
Great videõ 💪 Thãnkš
I just applied to be a pile it at Whidbey ...hope I get the job !
Wow!!!😎🤟
Please don’t sugar coat Seattle, yes, it has a lot to offer. But, it’s not the gem it once was and the open drug camps are quite a shock. If you choose to attend an event in downtown, park in a secure lot that is close to the event you are attending and keep your head on a swivel! Other than Seattle, Washington is a Jewel!
Definetely! I’ve lived in Oak Harbor my whole life, and been to Seattle a lot. But oak harbor has gone down hill, it’s feels like a huge lot of people doing drugs. Just a few days ago I saw someone in the open doing drugs, at the busy intersection by like Walgreens and Haggens, if you know where that is
So Grace, for your next duty, is your 1st pick East Pack or West Pack?
I prefer Fort Lewis, starting every morning looking up at Mt Rainier.
Do you need to clear these videos with the Navy or are you on your own in judging what's classified and what isn't?
Im wondering where i can get the full video of that launch, Im the Plane Captain with the 777 cranial and want to be able to show family
