  • Fullerton, Calif. - Senior Gerard Anderson scored 13 points and point guard Jacques Streeter had 8 points, 6 assists and 5 steals Monday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 69-58 men's basketball exhibition victory over Cal State Los Angeles.
Chris Fields of CSULA led all scorers with 18 points and Dwayne Jones added 12.
Fullerton outrebounded CSULA by a 50-34 margin but otherwise the statistics were pretty equal. Jer'Vaughn Johnson led the Titans with nine.
The Titans used a 15-2 run to close the first half for a 35-29 lead at intermission. The Golden Eagles opened the second period with a 6-0 run to forge a tie at 35-35. But Fullerton scored the next five points and gradually pulled away to lead by as many as 19 points at 68-49 with 3:43 to play.
"The whole difference in the game was our offensive rebounding," said CSF Head Coach Bob Burton. "Obviously, we have a tremendous amount of work to do.
"I was very disappointed with the way we played defense and offense. We didn't play defense the way we think we can play it and we weren't aggressive enough on offense.
"We expect more from our fast break and how we run the offense. But we did rebound and we can do that."
Cal State L.A. shot 35 percent from the floor including 6 of 18 from the 3-point line. Fullerton also shot 35 percent but made only 3 of 17 treys. But the Titans grabbed 20 offensive rebounds to only 7 for CSULA.
The teams combined for 40 turnovers -- 22 by the Golden Eagles.
Fullerton opens its regular season Saturday night vs. Hope International.
Cal State L.A., which earlier lost an exhibition at Syracuse, plays one more Div. I exhibition at UC Santa Barbara.
