Long time FSU fan started in 1977. Last year right after the selection show I commented the aftermath of how it was handled by FSU would hurt going into next season. Coach, in my opinion, led the charge of, right or wrong, with the crying showing the players if things don't go your way throw a fit and quit. The AP poll and Coaches poll do not have to vote the playoff winner as NC and beat Georgia one of them may have given us their NC. A lot of the voters of those two polls had mentioned FSU should have been in the playoff so they were already on our side until the actions by the coaching staff and team and university. The excuse of "the bowl game means nothing why play" I know most of those are NFL draft opp but my question is why finish this season, not going to the playoff this year so why risk injury and all the other reasons, the games mean nothing now if playoff is the only goal. This is only my opinion def not thinking everyone or anyone would agree with me and not looking for either just an opinion from a long time fan.

Wrong. They were rarely in dogfights last year. Duke only scored one offensive touchdown the entire game last year. You don't BS your way to 19 straight wins. The biggest problem with FSU this year was the rapid regression of the OL. Was supposed to be a top 10 unit in the country given their returning production, but are among the worst in the country.
My niece attends FSU, according to her, DJ’s NIL deal has a clause that he could not be benched for on the field performance but could for injury. Startling if true.
Im going out on a limb and assuming norvells strategy will change drastically and might learn a thing or to from Clemson and not rely on the portal for success and build a team from the roots up. He, in my opinion, might get another year if the product on the field looks like it can be salvaged in a year or two.
I agree you need to bring in the right recruits to build a core and culture but Clemson would benefit from bringing in a few more transfers every so often.
I worked in Tally for 15 years. I moved out, but I'm still connected. The inside Tallahassee word is that the 60 point ass whooping they received from the Dawgs killed them more mentally than the scoreboard did.
Portal additions take two years to work. Quinn Ewers, Penix, Burrow, Fields, Daniels all made the most substantial impact in year two. Rarely do you get a Cam Ward and for it to work absolutely everything else needs to be in place. Using the portal every year never works. It's nothing more than buying a lottery ticket each year instead of getting a job
You cannot recruit like crap for 5 years, continually miss on big recruits and dive off into the portal and think you’re going to have a good team. Mike will have to make some major coaching changes at the end of the season. I think Dugans, Odell, Atkins, Fuller and Shannon all need to hit the road. WR can’t catch a cold, Dline and Oline are soft AF, Defense can’t stop a nose bleed and the LB are non existent.
Blaming the portal for everything is lazy. Lots of teams use the portal more and don't recruit as good as fsu. This dysfunction goes much deeper than that most of is it on norvell but it definitely goes higher up than that.

FSU in 2023 (and 2021-22) had a mix of HS recruits & portal players that all bought into what Norvell was building to in 2023. No one on FSU 2024 bought in and it shows on the field. After the stunning loss to GaTech in week 0, nearly every player on that roster has gone into auto-pilot to just get through this year & try finding somewhere else to play in 2025.
How did you feel about Gene Chizik? Not saying he was a bad coach but he was lucky with Cam. Without Cam he was gone. Novell just seems like Chizik 2.0
Like Norvell, he did a great job at ASU, his offense requires a QB that has the ability to make good reads fast for his offense to work. He doesn't he's done.
I am so TIRED of hearing every single interview and school talking about their "culture". That is ludicrous on its merit. EVERY single school and coach has culture. What separates the great teams from everyone else is simply the talent on hand. That's why I always laugh when I hear Nick Saban or Kirby Smart is the greatest coach type of statements...based on what evidence??? When you have a team loaded with the nations best players...yeah you should win the title pretty dang often. Best coaches rarely get the credit they deserve. The Wake head coach...this years Vandy coach...etc. Those are the gems. Winning with lesser rosters week in and week out is truly best coach worthy not those with their talent on the scales making winning a likely outcome each week.

Everyone is asking what happened to FSU. What changed this year was Norvell went after Unproven transfers that had little to no playing time under their belt. This was his way of reducing the number of transfers for the future, so he could increase the number of high school recruits. This backfired on him badly! To sum up the video, with the portal you can be Miami or you can be FSU. There's no telling because it depends on winning. If you are winning, everybody is happy. If not, you are FSU. All those portal players came to FSU for mostly selfish reasons and if FSU had been winning, they are happy. The problem with the portal is there is no loyalty, no buy-in, and they haven't earned it. The 1997 FSU team would wipe the floor with this team 100 times out of a 100 and it wouldn't be close, I'd spot that team 50 points. Live by the portal, die by the portal. FSU got to pick and choose the top transfer players a few years back because the portal was still new and NIL was just becoming a thing. Fast forward to 2024 and FSU can no longer just grab all the productive transfers in the portal because those guys all demand big money and FSU can’t afford to pay those guys so they fall back on plan B transfers. A bunch of former top recruits who couldn’t get on the field at Alabama or Georgia. No proven commodity. Just guys who were big names in high school but turned out to be mediocre or worse college players. Couple that with the fact that Norvell is the worst recruiter at FSU in 40 years so they don’t have any of their own recruits to fall back on. They just gave him a huge extension so firing him isn’t happening for at least another two or three years. It’s going to be a VERY long road back to respectability for the noles. They’re going to suck for a while.

They were not a top 4 team with Travis last year, they were not deep enough at any position on either side of the ball last year. The best wins they had last year, the three teams had 9 losses between them. When they quit , people, forget UGA lost 15 into the portal before the orange bowl, most of the starters played 1 quarter.. and FSU were boat raced by UGA walk-ons. UGA didn’t complain about dropping from 1-6… FSU quit last year and have never recovered from it. They will lose big time recruits… just watch more to follow. 🤦♂️

FSU made it work on year 1 many times. Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson just to name a few examples.

FSU in 2023 (and 2021-22) had a mix of HS recruits & portal players that all bought into what Norvell was building to in 2023. No one on FSU 2024 bought in and it shows on the field. After the stunning loss to GaTech in week 0, nearly every player on that roster has gone into auto-pilot to just get through this year & try finding somewhere else to play in 2025.

I am so TIRED of hearing every single interview and school talking about their "culture". That is ludicrous on its merit. EVERY single school and coach has culture. What separates the great teams from everyone else is simply the talent on hand. That's why I always laugh when I hear Nick Saban or Kirby Smart is the greatest coach type of statements...based on what evidence??? When you have a team loaded with the nations best players...yeah you should win the title pretty dang often. Best coaches rarely get the credit they deserve. The Wake head coach...this years Vandy coach...etc. Those are the gems. Winning with lesser rosters week in and week out is truly best coach worthy not those with their talent on the scales making winning a likely outcome each week.

Everyone is asking what happened to FSU. What changed this year was Norvell went after Unproven transfers that had little to no playing time under their belt. This was his way of reducing the number of transfers for the future, so he could increase the number of high school recruits. This backfired on him badly! Every other year Norvell only went after Proven and highly sought after transfers. Yes, it’s as simple as that!

To sum up the video, with the portal you can be Miami or you can be FSU. There's no telling because it depends on winning. If you are winning, everybody is happy. If not, you are FSU. All those portal players came to FSU for mostly selfish reasons and if FSU had been winning, they are happy. The problem with the portal is there is no loyalty, no buy-in, and they haven't earned it. The 1997 FSU team would wipe the floor with this team 100 times out of a 100 and it wouldn't be close, I'd spot that team 50 points. I don't hate on FSU even though I'm a Gator because really if you look at our 2025 recruiting class right now, we might be doing the same thing.

Live by the portal, die by the portal. FSU got to pick and choose the top transfer players a few years back because the portal was still new and NIL was just becoming a thing. Fast forward to 2024 and FSU can no longer just grab all the productive transfers in the portal because those guys all demand big money and FSU can’t afford to pay those guys so they fall back on plan B transfers. A bunch of former top recruits who couldn’t get on the field at Alabama or Georgia. No proven commodity. Just guys who were big names in high school but turned out to be mediocre or worse college players. Couple that with the fact that Norvell is the worst recruiter at FSU in 40 years so they don’t have any of their own recruits to fall back on. They just gave him a huge extension so firing him isn’t happening for at least another two or three years. It’s going to be a VERY long road back to respectability for the noles. They’re going to suck for a while.

The culture and climate changed when the coach and the entire team quit last year. They were not a top 4 team with Travis last year, they were not deep enough at any position on either side of the ball last year. The best wins they had last year, the three teams had 9 losses between them. When they quit , people, forget UGA lost 15 into the portal before the orange bowl, most of the starters played 1 quarter.. and FSU were boat raced by UGA walk-ons. UGA didn’t complain about dropping from 1-6… FSU quit last year and have never recovered from it. They will lose big time recruits… just watch more to follow. 🤦♂️

Recruiting. Period. High school recruiting. Mike Norvell is a horrid recruiter (and a bad coach in my opinion with water gun fights and races during practice). His past 5 years at FSU, the best class he’s stuck is 12. #12. That isn’t going to cut it. He struck hot in the transfer portal last year, and Travis was a special dude. Now they’re gone, he’s left with shells of talented dudes and can’t coach them. And the irony of FSU extending Mike’s contract to keep him from Bama is just too sweet.
