Meduza reported yesterday that Patriarch Kirill of Moscow banned Yoann Koval, a cleric in a Moscow church, from services after parishioners denounced him. The priest had replaced the word “victory” with “peace” while reciting the prayer “Holy Rus,” which the Russian Orthodox Church distributed as a mandatory reading in September 2022.

On 6/29/23 Novaya Gazeta reported: “The Constantinople Patriarch has reinstated Russian priest Ioann Koval.”
Now that Father Ioann has been reinstated, is he serving in Russia or has he fled the country?

From Patriarch Kirill’s pro-mobilization homily at the Zachatyevsky Monastery in Moscow: “Go bravely to fulfill your military duty. And remember that if you lay down your life for your country, you will be with God in his kingdom, glory and eternal life.” Is this not a conflation of Putinism and the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ? I pity the members of his flock who are being led astray: “The gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.” (Epistle to the Hebrews 4:2). In Kirill’s homily the Gospel was not mixed with “faith” in those who heard it, but mixed with putinist jihadism. It follows that this fanaticism has become attached to the name of Patriarch Kirill and therefore to his naming during the Divine services, that is, his commemoration.

Mrs. Orthoodox Christian First asks: "Will the Muslims who lay down their lives in Ukraine for the Russian Federation also be able get in on the Patriarch's deal to "be with God in his kingdom, glory, and eternal life?" If so, why even be an Orthodox Christian in the Russian Federation, or a Muslim, or a whatever? Eat, drink, and be merry in life but just make sure to you lay down this life in Ukraine (but not before - with kindness - killing some Ukrainians) for Putin if you want a ticket to heaven, a ticket stamped by the Patriarch of Moscow himself!

“For from the least of them to the greatest of them,
      Everyone is greedy for gain,
And from the prophet to the priest
      Everyone deals falsely.
They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially,
      Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
      But there is no peace.
Were they ashamed because of the abomination they had done?
They were not ashamed at all,
Nor did they know even how to be ashamed.
      Therefore they will fall among those who fall;
At the time that I punish them,
They will collapse,” says the Lord. - - Jeremiah 6:13-15

@@stuntman083 wow, am I a Protestant? No, I am not. Why should a Protestant care about the commemoration of a heresiarch within the Orthodox Church? I am an Orthodox Christian who is against the commemoration of Patriarch Kirill as an Orthodox hierarch because he instituted the change in the Russian Orthodox from Orthodox Christianity to Eastern Rite Putinanity.

Thank you for your opinion and efforts! To me, though, it boiled down to: we stop commemorating patriarch when he preaches heresy leading people to delusions but we don't stop commemorating when he leads them to killing others feeling own righteousness.
It seems that stopping commemorating could potentially give him a hint that he does something wrong. It will probably put us in a week position politically and institutionally but isn't that what Christ says to do directly?
The comparison with Maxym the confessor I find inaccurate because it falsely presumes person who feels the wrongness of what patriarch says to be automatically excluded because he's obviously not saint. But I believe one oughtn't be a saint or highly intellectual in order to have his inner compass right.

:) my pleasure! I think these kind of discussions are very important. Because they are thought provoking.
I was hoping though to hear more about actual reasons to officially commemorate the first hierarch. To me it's not clear how this person is connected with my spiritual life which is very much private.
It's not clear how people outside of my parish and my actual spiritual needs interact with me.
And I'm not referring to postmodern concept of rhizome here. I'm more interested in ecclesiastical aspect of it. Merely, how existence of humongous hierarch structures influence a spiritual life of an individual or a group of people who decided to dedicate their life to Jesus.

Reader Timothy stated in this interview: "The only reason when this sign of subordination, this chain of command, can be broken is when a hierarch preaches heresy which has already been condemned by a council. It is a hypothetical situation, we could talk a lot about it, but I’m going to put it aside. It boils down to the point of theological divergence or opinion that would be at least very new." Reader Timothy, some of us cannot "put aside" the heresy that His Holiness Patriarch Kirill is preaching from his throne in support of the fratricide.
Many of us thought that the preaching of heresy by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill began when he embraced the Putinskiy Mir heresy and blessed the fratricidal war to extend the rule of Putin over a free, Orthodox Christian nation. Now we have the Patriarch's new and heretical soteriological teaching of "lay down your life for your country, you will be with God in his kingdom, glory and eternal life" which subverts the way of the Cross, the very salvific life and death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Note: The news in Estonia called it Kirill's "license to kill message.”
This subversion of the Gospel, this preached heresy of Patriarch Kirill should be more than enough to, in the words of Reader Timothy, break "this chain of command" that is symbolized in the commemoration of this heresiarch.
