True. Rule #1's #1 death danger is being electrocuted in the basement water. Hope just 1 person read that-some dipshit like we all know-and they are spared the tragedy.
@@goose7378 exactly right. I heard that over and over just the past several days with hurricane Helene. It’s a tough call to be sure. Especially if you don’t have power. Just depends where you are and what type of building you’re in. I don’t think I would’ve been walking around in that water though, but idk what their situation was either.
I live 10 minutes away from Cranford. Yes, I live in Elizabeth. When hurricane Ida hit us in Elizabeth, me and my family were terrified due to how flooded our basement was, We eventually went outside and got soaked by the heavy rain , and it was so windy. The avenue right next to us was flooded a lot. Thankfully I lived and I hope none of this happens again

The husband and son broke a window to get the other son out, then their mom. No fatalities from this. This was a reply from one of the posts below. I responded and askes how he/she knows about the outcome.. Waiting for response. I hope this is true!
No matter what, he could have never made it back across that room. Another post said that the mom and son were rescued? Well the son walked to the stairs and was probably walking up as the wall collapsed. If the mom was in the room across from where the kid walked up, and the room filled up that fast, it was curtains for her.
It's not an underground basement... at least, not fully underground one. I'm guessing the house is build on a slope next to a river, and the wall that collapsed was the river-facing one. Noone but the Dutch would expect a river to suddenly increase its level in such a short time...
I guarantee they did. I used to work in the storage/shelving section in a big box hardware store and those were the best ones. I seen someone knock off about 50 of them off of the top shelf (30sh foot drop) right onto concrete and only one of them had any damage at all and it was still technically functional. Those clear plastic ones will shatter like glass if you so much as sneeze in their general direction. They're tough enough to be used as a bathtub (and I speak from experience here.)
@@TheSpongiform These industrial boxes definitely are worth their weight in gold, some have had hairline cracks on my experience, but still sturdy enough to never break! I hope the insurance does pay this family for the weather damage!
That wasn't even a wood basement. It was a concrete block basement with a finished wall on the inside. The water pressure was enough to collapse the block wall.
Meanwhile in SoCal….. we get news about Dwayne Johnson’s Doppelgänger, starring in Disney’s Jungle Cruise ( Disney is the parent company of ABC) in theatres now, don’t forget your mask 😷
That's possible, but only if the wiring is dodgy. The water should shortcircuit any flooded wires straight to ground and trip the breaker, but if there is no ground, and you are holding on to metal pipes that are grounded, you would become the shortest path and *zap*. If it's a lightning strike or high-voltage line, though, all bets are off. There's just too much energy involved that anything even remotely conductive will have channels forming. There is no shortest path when you are trying to force a raging torrent of electrons through a straw...

That was and illegal dwelling in the basement where the family drowned, the apartment was set up against all basic safety measures, it didn't even have a small window like some regular basements have, only one entry/exit, and the building itself is below sea level. So yeah that illegal, built without a permit basement dwelling, was a death trap.
NBC says the mom and son were rescued through a window after this. Idk why ABC7 didn't put that in the description.
Maybe ABC didn't know?
Fear mongering lol
They should have! thanks for adding this update
Because they like to be dramatic
This happened next to my town literally 5 min away, they all got out safe, it could always be worse be glad you have your life
If my house would be destroyed i like to be dead
What was that screeching in the background?
Rule #1: Never go below ground when there's a flood threat. Water loves to travel down. I know many people were found dead in their basements.
yes broski i was like ...okey maybe the TV is still working and then the cuttie yells
There were also tornado warnings and people were drilled into their brain to go into basements during a tornado threat.
