I did all water,sewer and storm drain for that track, we were putting in pipe while they were tearing down kaiser steel. Even found a car buried there. We were pulling 800 dollars a day of copper wire. Then E.L. yeager said no more because everyone was looking for cables after work. But we were digging it up every day. Till they said no more but we would wrap it around our D6 ripper at the end of the day. Cash it im and split it 😂 good times.

@@robertmann7277 from the looks of recent video footage from the speedway the development of the surrounding warehouses going up are a higher priority than the redevelopment of the speedway. Makes me think that the new track ain’t happening.
Seeing the track being torn down just breaks my heart. So many races so many great friends I call family was met at that track in the infield. My future kids will never get to experience what I got to experience. I get it the show must go on. I just wish I could of been able to still get a track flag. I searched and searched and even asked track officials if I could get one after they came down after the race I was told no and that hurt. 😢
What a shame. I drew up some of the preliminary concepts for this track back in ’89 - ’90 I think it was, for the Agajanians before the Kaiser steel smelter was demolished. Lost the blueprints years ago unfortunately. Roger Penske was the eventual developer.

They never utilized the property as well as they do in other states. They never ever hosted any major events outside of nascar and Indy, even though they had all the means to do so. Formula D, formula 1, nhra, and so many more professional racing organizations could’ve made this track so much greater. But they never did. They also never opened it up to public events nearly as much as they should’ve which should’ve been on a weekly basis outside of major events.
@@jdotdeedot5972 It was an insurance nightmare. That's why there were rarely public events on the big track. They did have an infield road course but again the insurance got in the way.
Hey CC - I had a run of about 5 years from 2015 to 2020. Then I made it to the last race. Really sad day... I was just back out there and while there has been no progress on the race track, they are moving full speed on filling the empty space. Stay tuned. thx....
Hey M&B - Cal Speed claims they are looking to relocate but give no details of where or when. Just another serious blow to the California racing community. Irwindale announced that they will be closing the doors at the end of the 2024 season, so the hits just keep on coming. If you haven't ever been to Irwindale, I highly recommend it. Top shelf facility and they put on a great show at a really affordable price. Thanks for your great memories... I used to do allot of karting at Willow Springs. The cars in the infield are used by fire safety for training before events. They were used most recently for training before the Clash. They even make a mock up of the clash configuration in the VIP suite lot. Igf they do rebuild, I hope the leave out the buildings in the infield it was deafening when the cars would race by. Not to mention it blocked the view of the back stretch. I would like a super speedway built here

I liked sitting at start/finish where you could look up and see the board with the speeds on it. It was big enough I'm sure the drivers were checking it as they passed. The night race was my favorite

The building is called the Apex. It’s located in the fanzone directly behind start/finish. It was originally a Wolfgang Puck restaurant named Apex, but later became a food concession stand and track merchandise store.

Noticed you mentioned the front stretch and it staying intact. The area of the track that still remains now, fanzone, center grandstands, tower, terrace suites, and garages are the area NASCAR retained. You won’t see much action there until NASCAR finalizes their plans for the new facility. The new track will be built, it just might be a little longer before they start construction. There are two different projects happening here with two different companies. Hillwood is doing the demolition on the track that you document in these videos, as well as building the warehouses. NASCAR is taking care of the land they retained and has a separate contractor. NASCAR is demolishing what they can to get a start on the project, such as the grandstand demolition we’ve seen in round two. Stay positive and keep the faith.

While hearing and feeling those cars rumble down the front straight at the beginning of each race at Auto Club Speedway was exhilarating to say the very least, the racing there was literally about as boring as it gets in NASCAR
