To be really honest, my scrap box has just been sat in my room for years and getting in the way of things, and now that I've watched this video, I'm going to go through it all and made a whole bunch of stuff! Thank you Weaver Leathercraft!
Chuck this is perfect timing with us in our homes and not having the money for big leather right now. Thanks for the great ideas and encouragement. Since your better half looks as creative as you, maybe bring her on for a guest appearance, and show her insight. Keep these coming and thanks Weaver.
I just started leather working this year by getting a bag of scraps at the store and have already made many of these. I love how you dress them up with little trinket things. I do the same thing with wood scraps, making pens, refrigerator magnets and ornaments. The only waste is the imagination!!
Simply outstanding and fascinating,. have actually been working only on scrap bits, but this episode of "Leather Element", does put a whole new dimension on "upscaling", of leather remnsnts. Nothing goes waste! These tutorials can't be beat. Thanks.
Hi there Chuck thanks for this video, I will have fun making these tassels for sure, & I love the 2 tone blue leaf earrings & the wgt pouches a cool idea for sure, also i'm just checking in, to make sure you & your loved ones are all VIRUS safe & healthy, thanks for showing what your wife made from your scraps, that is totally awesome,!~!
Sir, you and your wife are a truly creative couple. I'm just starting in leather craft and these are great ideas for me. Please, you take care and stay safe. I'm a big fan!
I'd like Chuck to do a video on making a pistol magazine carrier for use on up to a 1 1/2" belt. I hope this doesn't transcend any boundries that big leather company's have set. Got to admit; rifles, guns, and knives can open up a whole lot of leather project ideas. Also, in my opinion, making a magazine carrier for a double stack magazine is tough to form on the bottom of the carrier. I'm sure Chuck could come up with some very nice designs and techniques.
Great concept to use scrap and have fun! I’d love to see some ideas on making watch straps from scrap and recycled leather (old jackets and boots etc). They don’t take a lot of material, but they do require a high level of accuracy in measuring, cutting and stitching etc. Keep up the great work
@Daverooni, In my opinion, I like to make a watch band that fits well on the wrist, and I like to use a snap as a fastener, not a buckle. A snap makes it easier and quicker to remove the watch and wash your hands (in crazy times like these). You can even make it adjustable with a little thinking. Put a small mark on the top center of your wrist and a small mark on the bottom center of your wrist. Then use a sewing tape to take a measurement from mark to mark on each side of the wrist. The measurements won't be the same. These measurements should set the watch and snap centered on your wrist.
Also. I have no affiliation with leather companies other than as a customer. But buy some vegetable tanned leather and make a nice watch band. About 4 to 5 ounce leather should work nicely. Hobby Lobbie sells it. It'll take a lot of work and planning. So make a pattern first. I'm sure you'll be glad you did.
I have an idea/request. I’d love to see chuck’s expertise one making a taco style knife sheath. I make them all the time but I feel like he could show ways for me and those like me to really take my sheaths to the next level.
7:00 - some time ago You asked if anyone had any idea what to do with the "little suckers" that are left from the punching holes. Just stuff them into that pouch. :)
There is no such thing as scrap, just new projects and uses. Even that first piece you showed that has been die cut to within an inch of it's life has uses Chuck. They are great for lacing, rivet washers, small decorative shapes, pin cushion stuffing, hat wire enclosures or for lining edges of projects (rolled over edges on a wallet or journal), snap closure tabs on wallets or coin holders or small decorative buckles, etc, etc.
Hi Chuck. Would you please make a leather element video about oil tanned and latigo tanned leathers? Recently i bought a piece of pores oil tanned leather (it is very similar to crazy horse or water buffalo leather) and i am really struggling burnishing the edge. How can i make my edge look nice on these kinds of leathers? Thank you so much for great videos.
Hi Aria, Unfortunately soft leathers like oil tanned won't slick very well. You can try to slick with Tokonole - it will work on some softer leathers but not guaranteed. Another thing you can do is paint the edges or fold and sew the edges. I usually just keep mine raw but if that's not the look you're going for then maybe one of the above will help.
I am a wood worker and rookie leather worker. I was wondering if you have any ideas on making a chisel roll. I was thinking about a canvas and leather roll. The leather would be on the edges about 2” wide and trim with canvas for main body. Leather tie straps. Sewn pockets, Any thoughts?
Hi Robin, We did a video on a tool roll a few months ago and you should be able to take that same concept to make a chisel roll, just adjust the size. I would do pockets on the bottom side only, to fit the handles and then sew a flap that comes from the top down to cover and protect the blades when you roll it. Here is the link to the tool roll video: ua-cam.com/video/-B43RzCObNo/v-deo.html
Chuck could you share the link on how you make the Spanish basket weave bracelets, I searched on youtube, but couldn't locate it. I looked under Mexican basket weave bracelets, thanks.
Hi Melody, We are actually doing a Facebook live class for the bracelet on Wednesday 4/29. You can see more information here: www.weaverleathersupply.com/live-class-with-chuck-dorsett The video will also be streamed on the page we linked above if you don't have Facebook.
Hi Linda, It's sometimes called a makers mark but you can get them made from different materials. The best quality will be a brass or steel stamp. Check out www.leatherstampmaker.com/ or www.steelstampsinc.com/custom-leather-stamps
Wow, thats a good idea, oh that is too, gosh , that looks good, Lord save me from this man, I am swamped, but look , i could do that, gee ...I can make things, Glory be to God, thanks for wrecking my head Chuck.
I love that you are excited to share your craft with your wife. Such a great way to inspire both your own creativity and hers!
This guy is great. What a great teacher.
Men like you stand alone, Chuck. Thanks.

Thanks again Chuck for some great ideas fo small scraps. I’m still learning new things everyday.
Some really good ideas with scraps......but your wife gets the prize on this video..... those pieces at the end gave me some great ideas

I always imagine that some day I'll make a knife with a stacked leather handle.
Thanks for the ideals

I made a new phone case this week, came out pretty awesome after a couple of "oh shit" moments LOL. Those wall hangings are fantastic!
Thanks so much! Haha, we've definitely all had those moments - glad it turned out good for you!
Heh, tassles. Some... interesting ways of using... tassles. ;-)
Some scrap from a project needs to be kept for tests in how leather will respond to tooling and/or coloring and finishing.
I laughed out loud when you said your wife raids your scraps
Thanks Chuck! Do you just push the bead over the top of the tassel? Do you need a bit of glue under it? Thanks :)
We would recommend adding a bit of glue just to be safe! It's pretty tight but there is always a chance of it getting loose.

Chuck, you gotta get your wife in as a special guest one video.
Hey Chuck, How would you add a Gun-Slinger stitch to a new daily wear 1.5 inch belt? maybe Latigo or regular veg tan?
0:30 that could be turned into reverse wrap two ply swine and rope.
Hello Chuck, I am curious as to the difference between leather dye, pro dye and stain. Thanks, Justin from Dixie Kay Leatherworks.
Good!!!)
I have a project idea. Could you show us how to make a leather baseball cap. Thank for all you do.
How much for 2 lb of scrap leather. good scrap leather
leather archery arm guard for string bite

Muy buenos vídeo y con mucha creatividad pero si pudieran subtitular en español sería mejor

Hay Chuck, what is the oddest leather projects you ever did?
You mentioned making tassels from scrap leather. Why not go a bit further and roll two colors together and have a school colors, tassel.
That's a great idea George!
Project Idea: Ipad case, not a sleeve.
Hi I'm Chuck Dorset for Weaver Lether Craft! How tha fuck did you get in my house?!
This a great video!!!
