Knotts is so underrated. Such a great trip with many rides that also don’t get too much attention (Xcelerator, Hang time, GhostRider, Silver bullet, Sidewinder)
@@Jaxsen522 Yeah, the coasters themselves aren't underrated, the theming is incredible. The only thing is the number of coasters that might turn people off.
California definitely has one of the best coaster lineups! If only the rest of the states on the west side of the United States could keep the fun going! haha great video my frenemy!
Edward Van Tassell ikr California’s Great America is an awesome park and it’s definitely on my top 3 but have you ever been to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom?
I’ll never forget visiting magic mountain from Philadelphia in 3rd grade in 2006. Boy I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I got on Tatsu, felt like it ripped my chest in half, but I liked it lol
Nice list. Was hoping to see the Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz make an appearance. That coaster doesn't get enough love especially considering it's creeping up on a whopping 100 years of service
I'm so happy Ghost Rider was so high up on the list! I love that ride so much! It was the first big coaster I ever rode. It inspired me to ride Incredicoaster and then Silver Bullet. I will always have a special place in my heart for Ghost Rider because I had a fear of big rides before I rode it. I still have my limits, but I'm much braver now.

Love the videos! I think Giant Dipper should be on here. I worked at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in '09 and remember riding on days off or after work. Surprisingly good for its size! I hope to get back in 2024 for its 100th.
I really agree with your list and I love how pit together and organized your videos are. Your videos have really helped me understand some of the rides I haven’t rode before because I live in Canada
I remember riding X2 for the first time and it was my first time at Magic Mountain. Man when I hit the first drop, I forgot everything, until I hit the station. It was something I have never ridden before.
Nick Grisanti Yeah it’s honestly kinda sad how rough it is now...on its opening season it was literally the smoothest coaster I had ever ridden, and now it’s in ranks with the rest of the woodies.
I think you did a great job on this list. Being from Northern California, I’m glad to see so many of the coasters from the Bay Area represented here. Medusa is a favorite. I’ve got a great story about it too. I’ll have to share it some time.
I just can’t agree with you on Viper! I visited magic mountain in 2014 and we had a guide so we got to skip lines and ride every coaster in about two hours. I wasn’t really as into coaster back then as I am now, but I remember that being the first and only coaster I said I would never ride again because it was SO painful! I remember loving Full Throttle and the front row on Goliath was.... terrifyingly wonderful!! Mind you, I had never ridden a real coaster before these as im from Washington and beside the Timberhawk we don’t have many major coasters. I used to be a trainer for that ride.... ah the good old days!
Even if I don't agree on each placement, I think you nailed the top 20 individual rides in the state. Also, thank you for appreciating Sierra Sidewinder, what a criminally underrated ride.
I am still pressed by the fact in December 2015 when my Dad and I got in the enormous line for Twisted Colossus, the ride shut down due to technical difficulties as we were literally next in line. We waited over an hour and 15 minutes. Hopefully after this pandemic we can go back and try again.
I love 1 hour away from six flags discovery kingdom and have been over 20 times probably. This is my childhood park and I’m so glad it finally gets some love.
Despite only having spent 3 days in California in my lifetime so far, I'm proud to say I've ridden 13 of what you consider the top 20 coasters in the state. Solid list. Of the ones I've ridden, I'd definitely do a bit of rearranging, but for the most part I can see why you ranked thinks the way you did.
Both Medusa and Superman Ultimate Flight are awesome. I rode both of them when I went to Discovery Kingdom. I went there when Roar was still open though. I miss that ride.
I need most of these credits as I haven't been back to Cali since I moved away as a kid in '95. I'll be out there next year and I hope we can ride together when I hit your home park. Great list!
i love sfmm and knotts. they're the top two theme parks on my list (even though ive only been to those two and disneyland/california adventure, and some small kiddie parks when i was little lmao) but i loved all of the coasters at sfmm. we didnt go on full throttle or superman though, we chickened out last second on both lol! ended up going on goliath last and its awesome at night
While I've yet to ride the coasters in Northern California like you have, I would've put Tatsu a bit higher on my list. Other than that, great list! I'm really happy to hear a coaster enthusiast give Incredicoaster its due. Despite lacking in intensity, it's still really fun to ride and I always get on it every time I make a visit to Disneyland Resort. Not to mention it's one of the fastest rides to get onto given their amazing ride ops! 30 seconds to offload and load each train when it enters the station!!!!
Stunned that you are a true Californian and somehow do not show love for the SCBB Giant Dipper. It may not be the tallest, fastest or most forceful, but what a well maintained and historically classic ride.
Good Ranking. I am out of Germany and went to six flags magic mountain. And hell yeah this twisted colossus features some really good airtime and special elements that also make it my number one coaster as well as interacting with the other train. Keep up your good work. A really good ranking with clear points. Nice videos, everybody follow. :)
Awesome video, I like numbers 3 which was X2 and 1 which was Twisted Colossus, both of those are two of my favorite coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain!!!!
Didn't get to discovery kingdom, but did the other 3 major parks last week and have to agree with most of your rankings. Wasn't impressed by gold striker, but it was empty trains basically all my rides so probably didn't get the full experience. Ghost rider at night was out of control, just amazing. And the combo of tatsu and x2 is the most intense I've experienced. One of the very few times I've gotten sick on rides. Admittedly the 80° temperature difference from LA to when I left Wisconsin might have had something to do with that.
I've only been to Disney and Magic Mountain so far but I agree with many of the points you made on those... though I don't mind Full Throttle being short like so many others seem to! I was amazed at the Incredicoaster's operations when I went in August. For most of the time I was watching there were no less than two trains moving- and often three! I wish other parks would take some notes on their efficient loading- the second loading station of course helped. We only got two rides on Twisted Colossus on our trip- and one race out of four- but it was such an incredible ride! It's proof you don't need to be the tallest, fastest, biggest, etc. to be an incredibly fun ride! I'll never forget that ride we got a race. When people in the green train ahead of us on the lift realized they were getting a race you probably could hear the cheering across the park! (Okay, maybe not- but it felt like it!) Viper was... an experience. I usually laugh a bit when people call coasters rough since most enthusiast's seem to think anything other than the smoothest most buttery tracks are rough... but Viper was actually rough. My head hurts thinking about it. That said- it was fun... just not something I'd ride more than once or twice in a day. Sadly X2 and Apocalypse closed the weekend we were there. Maybe another time!
Nice list! We all will certainly have our unique preferences & experiences. That's what makes these lists interesting. I just returned from the Northern California parks a week ago. For my list, I will assume that I visited Knotts without an upset stomach. 1. X2 (one of my all-time favorites. I didn't want to ever stop going back for another ride.) 2. Twisted Colossus 3. Joker (much better than I expected) 4. Gold Striker (I agree with you on this. It was kind of weak on my first rides, but later, it was hauling & so amazing) 5. Ghost Rider (It could possibly be ahead of GS with a non-sick day at Knotts, but I'm not sure) 6. Railblazer (I again agree with what you said on this) 7. Full Throttle 8. Tatsu 9. HangTime 10. Superman Ultimate Flight Pacific Fruit Express was too awesome for any list. It belongs on a list all by itself.
I love in Rancho Cucamonga. I grew up going to Scandia and riding the Screamer. It was such a fun ride i was really sad when the park was sold and demolished.
Awesome video man!!! My personal favorite and number 1 all time is ghost rider. I've ridden mostly all the southern California rollercoasters and ghost Rider is still my number. One day I'll make it to northern California to ride their rides!
This sounds amazing! Being an East Coast boy eho was born in Texas, I've only been to the 2 Six Flags in Texas, the Florida Disney, Universal, and Anheiser-Busch Parks (including Bush Gardens Williamsburg, but excluding SeaWorld San Antonio), Wild Adventures, King's Dominon, and Six Flags Over Georgia and Great America. That said, I'll have to make sure to visit all of these some day! Knott's and Disneyland were already on my list anyway, lol
The kind of people who say Viper is one of the worst rides still standing must live a very sad life. Viper remains as my favorite ride of all time even to this day, and I'm so happy to see it on the list.
i’m so happy to see someone else give hangtime and knotts as a whole it’s recognition. everyone i seem to meet hates hangtime and i just don’t understand it.
Love seeing Ghostrider as #2!! Colossus was my dream go-to coaster back when I was like 4yo watching National Lampoon’s Vacation, and I swore to myself I’d ride that thing... took me 17 years but I managed to fulfill my childhood dream! (Living over 6k miles away didn’t help) And I’m yet to try Twisted Colossus - but I really miss the old school wooden coasters, specially boardwalk themed and I don’t think every wooden coaster should be RMC’ed - for both nostalgia and for those not-so-thrill seekers that would ride a wooden coaster but can’t stand upside downs in rides... maybe that’s why I love (even with all the roughness) the Giant Dipper in Belmont Park
Awesome list man! Solid top 20! I love the idea of Riddlers Revenge getting sit down trains! SFMM make it happen!! And I've been wondering what's the best GCI in Cali bc I haven't ridden Goldstriker yet.
Loved this video! I just went to the two Northern California parks and I totally agree with that you said about them. I think you should make the worst rollercoasters in California. There were some I would say that need to make room for some new ones.
I've been to pretty much every big park in California (and nowhere else unfortunately), so I've actually ridden everything on this list for once! I'd rate Tatsu higher and find room for Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, but otherwise great list!
Giant Dipper at Belmont. That thing was built in 1925 and has been maintained fabulously. It boggles me how a coaster like that could even be designed, built, and operated way back then (Dipper at Santa Cruz is more understandable.). It flows like a GCI, has some great airtime, and is easily accessible due to the ticketing system of the park. Sea World is right across the bay and draws the tourists away from the lesser known beach park. Skip it altogether, just ride Dipper over and over again.
What about Matterhorn Bobsleds the ORIGINAL steel coaster, its a bit bumpy but it is just so amazing with the bunny hils, drops, turns, and infamous water splash at the end.
I’m hoping to make it up to Six Flags when this corona stuff is over - I’ve been to Knotts twice and Hangtime is my absolute favorite ride. Ghost Rider was really rough for me, and quite frankly uncomfortable - I got banged around in the seat a lot, but I got a ton of airtime while I flew around like an empty sack in the wind. Thank god my friend, who is twice my weight, was locked into my arm. Felt like I was gonna fall out!
Pretty cool battle of the North vs South: Goldstriker/Joker/Raliblazer vs Ghostrider/TC/X2 Top woodies face off. Which I feel could go either way. (Except when it comes to night rides) The two traditional RMCs. TC gets the win. And then your high intensity rides in X2 and Railblazer. Can’t go wrong on either side of the state. Although I’d take the shorter lines in NorCal.
I LOVE Silver Bullet! One time my bestie got to ride it three times in a row because we went when Knotts wasn't too crowded. Imo the best seats are front row/middle seat or anywhere in the middle row
I put X2 in the number 1 spot for me, for it's intensity, uniqueness, and it also hits home, as it was the first rollercoaster i ever rode, and I rode it with my Dad.
@@Mrandersonbeatz just saw your comment! It's definitely iconic to me. Like i said, it hits home pretty hard. Funny thing is, my old man thought the line for X2 was for Viper. 😅
Interesting list, hard to disagree with, but I would have the SCBB Giant Dipper AND San Diego's classic Giant Dipper in the top 10 somewhere. But good job!
Ugh I need to get back to Magic Mountain. I only got 1 ride on everything except for 2 on X2 and Twisted Colossus and I feel like with so many coasters we were rushing the day a little bit. Hopefully I'll get back out there soon.
Yeah I totally agree with you, Airtime Thrills! Ghostrider and Twisted Colossus are the best in the west. Ghostrider is the best wooden coaster with laterals, tons of airtime, and a great night ride, especially in the back. Twisted Colossus is by far the best coaster West of the mississippi (including Texas). The layout is flawless and has tons of ejector airtime, inversions. Like you said its a top-tier RMC, only below Wicked Cyclone, Lightning Rod and Steel Vengence.
@@justiceleaguebattleformetr9239 If you want to find the "King" of Laterals, Excalibur at Funtown Splashtown in Maine has the best laterals than Legend.
So we booked a flight from Chicago to LA a week ago to go to Knott's Berry Farm next week, and just saw on Screamscape Ghostrider is going to be down for some kind of maintenance while we're there 😭😭😭 Crushed is an understatement as I've been wanting to go there badly for several years to ride Ghostrider
I just started watching your channel and now I’m like watching all your videos and your already one of my favorite UA-camr! Keep up the good work! Hey by the way if you ever go to Kings Island can you rank them because I can’t even ride a lot of coasters like Diamond back, you don’t have to but KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!!!
No Hay Banda I feel like even airtime thrills would disagree with that statement. Kings Island and Cedar are his favorite parks so I assume he would say Ohio is the best state for coasters
There is such great variety with our coasters here, and not so many clones to have to sort through (except for SFDK). I'm wondering though why V2 was left off the list (just not a fan?), and personally I would switch Tatsu with X2 but understand the high placement of X2 for its insanity and revolutionary design. Thanks for your effort in making these videos Chris, they are always the highlight of my UA-cam viewing.
Watching Niners pregame and pointed out CGA. Dad didn't know so told him about the best ones. Since we live in PA, I told him goldstriker is by the company in Sunbury, which is right outside of Knoebels
Dosware Pictures I actually think people from GCI helped build Twister since it was late 90s which is around the start of GCI. If you look, the company headquarters is about 30 or so minutes away
I was awestruck after I rode Goldstriker. It certainly does not “ride” well in online POVs, but boy is this a hoot in real life. It is unexplainable how out of control this ride feels. Agree with you on your top 3. I love riddlers revenge’s layout, but when you ride it it just lacks force and personality. Also agree with you re: night rides on Ghostrider. A phenomenal layout and ride. This coaster hauled when it had mid-course brakes, now the second half is mind blowing!

I lost my hat on cobra at the same park. Smfh....
Scott Edward how did you manage that lol
(Okay, maybe not- but it felt like it!)
Viper was... an experience.
I didn't want to ever stop going back for another ride.)
2. Twisted Colossus
3. Joker (much better than I expected)
4. Gold Striker (I agree with you on this. It was kind of weak on my first rides, but later, it was hauling & so amazing)
5. Ghost Rider (It could possibly be ahead of GS with a non-sick day at Knotts, but I'm not sure)
6. Railblazer (I again agree with what you said on this)
7. Full Throttle
8. Tatsu
9. HangTime
10. Superman Ultimate Flight
Pacific Fruit Express was too awesome for any list. It belongs on a list all by itself.
10:24 rip the guys hat
Just don’t wear earrings and know that the end of the corkscrew is rough, and you’ll have a great time!
You deserve more than 14k subs I think you should have at least half a mill
i’m so happy to see someone else give hangtime and knotts as a whole it’s recognition. everyone i seem to meet hates hangtime and i just don’t understand it.
Airtime thrills is the best roller coaster channel on UA-cam
Love seeing Ghostrider as #2!!
Colossus was my dream go-to coaster back when I was like 4yo watching National Lampoon’s Vacation, and I swore to myself I’d ride that thing... took me 17 years but I managed to fulfill my childhood dream! (Living over 6k miles away didn’t help)
And I’m yet to try Twisted Colossus - but I really miss the old school wooden coasters, specially boardwalk themed and I don’t think every wooden coaster should be RMC’ed - for both nostalgia and for those not-so-thrill seekers that would ride a wooden coaster but can’t stand upside downs in rides... maybe that’s why I love (even with all the roughness) the Giant Dipper in Belmont Park
Ahiru Nakamura I’ve never seen National Lampoon’s Vacation, despite loving Christmas Vacation.
I could quote that movie all day.
California is such a beautiful state and we are stacked with amazing coasters.
Lol kong at six flags marine needs to go that ride is atrocious
I love going to six flags I live 3 hours away and I have a membership and go as much as I can. Every time I go It is amazing !!
Before watching: I just want to mention that you have the best intro by far. The music combined with the footage always starts off your quality videos
I've been to pretty much every big park in California (and nowhere else unfortunately), so I've actually ridden everything on this list for once! I'd rate Tatsu higher and find room for Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, but otherwise great list!
The 6-8 year old girl blacking out on Sidewinder at 3:59 is hilarious. Perfectly proves your point.
Keep fighting the good fight by making great videos
God I really wanna go to the US and ride some of these amazing rides one day.
Here's to hoping!
Also, great video as always Nick!
Who tf is Nick?
Giant Dipper at Belmont. That thing was built in 1925 and has been maintained fabulously. It boggles me how a coaster like that could even be designed, built, and operated way back then (Dipper at Santa Cruz is more understandable.). It flows like a GCI, has some great airtime, and is easily accessible due to the ticketing system of the park. Sea World is right across the bay and draws the tourists away from the lesser known beach park. Skip it altogether, just ride Dipper over and over again.
We plan on checking out a lot of list in a little over a month. California life has to be awesome.
Pretty cool battle of the North vs South:
Goldstriker/Joker/Raliblazer vs Ghostrider/TC/X2
Top woodies face off. Which I feel could go either way. (Except when it comes to night rides)
The two traditional RMCs. TC gets the win.
And then your high intensity rides in X2 and Railblazer.
Can’t go wrong on either side of the state. Although I’d take the shorter lines in NorCal.
Awesome video and list! You’re my favorite youtuber and I always get very excited to see you post. Interesting that Incredicoaster is so high
I LOVE Silver Bullet! One time my bestie got to ride it three times in a row because we went when Knotts wasn't too crowded. Imo the best seats are front row/middle seat or anywhere in the middle row
I put X2 in the number 1 spot for me, for it's intensity, uniqueness, and it also hits home, as it was the first rollercoaster i ever rode, and I rode it with my Dad.
damn first rollercoaster ever wow i'm hoping I can ride it soon when I can go to mm
I also have TC below those 3 RMCs
X2 back row inside seat takes it for me. #2 Ghostrider #3 TC #4 EXCEL #5 Tatsu
I think The Legend has the best laterals, especially in that insane helix
@@justiceleaguebattleformetr9239 If you want to find the "King" of Laterals, Excalibur at Funtown Splashtown in Maine has the best laterals than Legend.
So we booked a flight from Chicago to LA a week ago to go to Knott's Berry Farm next week, and just saw on Screamscape Ghostrider is going to be down for some kind of maintenance while we're there 😭😭😭 Crushed is an understatement as I've been wanting to go there badly for several years to ride Ghostrider
I honestly don’t know why I sit here and watch roller coaster videos and every time I get on one I nearly cry and I’m afraid of heights 😂
I like how you mentioned Undertow, that was my first extreme coaster
I just started watching your channel and now I’m like watching all your videos and your already one of my favorite UA-camr! Keep up the good work! Hey by the way if you ever go to Kings Island can you rank them because I can’t even ride a lot of coasters like Diamond back, you don’t have to but KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!!!
id imagine this was a very hard list to make, especially because California is the best state for coasters.😳
No Hay Banda Texas is pretty good to
No Hay Banda Ohio is the best for rollercoasters
No Hay Banda Ohio would have something to say about that
Can we hit 5,000 subscribers with no videos? Ohio and California are in the running for me, but my vote would go to Pennsylvania.
No Hay Banda I feel like even airtime thrills would disagree with that statement. Kings Island and Cedar are his favorite parks so I assume he would say Ohio is the best state for coasters
My top 20
1. X2
2. Twisted colossus
3. Ghostrider
4. Railblazer
5. Tatsu
6. Xcelerator
7. Hangtime
8. Gold striker
9. Full throttle
10. Medusa
11. Incredicoaster
12. Silver bullet
13. Apocalypse
14. Superman SFDK
15. Space mountain
16. Flight deck
17. Montezumas revenge
18. Superman SFMM
19. Big thunder mountain
20. Riddlers revenge
I haven't ridden joker, V2 or manta yet but hope to in the near future:)
SFDK might have a lot of clones, but at least they turned one into an original ride.
Watching Niners pregame and pointed out CGA. Dad didn't know so told him about the best ones. Since we live in PA, I told him goldstriker is by the company in Sunbury, which is right outside of Knoebels
Coaster Lover26 if GCI is so close to Knoebels, why don’t they have a GCI?
Oh yeah, because Knoebels would rather build it themselves.
Giant dipper at santa Cruz beach boardwalk? I personally thought it was better than undertow
When I went there when I was a GP I got tons of room between me and my restraints. I was scared out of my mind, but I should have appreciated it.
Montezoomas revenge was my first looping coaster too. KBF/DL are my home parks
