I've played a French bow for 50 years and had to stop all bow playing, going straight to developing my piz playing due to arthritis. A friend just went out and bought me a German bow. I watched your video, which is incredibly useful, and now I am back in business. Thanks for incredibly clear instructions.
I am trying out some German bows, being a French player all my bass life. I needed something with the basics. This video is great, just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Seth - YOU Are the bottom line! (when looking for a concise answer). I play your instructional material UPSIDE DOWN to get the player's perspective - for holding the bow, etc. Very valuable info you provide. Thank you thank you thank you!
This is truly a helpful video. It helped me realize I am (most likely) a German bow bassist! I feel like I can play anything. Your students should be very proud to have such a great teacher!
After watching this one video , it made a turning point for me , because using a bow on double bass became rather easy . I've used it before but only finding it difficult and problematic , as I play bass guitar primarily and later in my life on the upright only now started using a bow . Great lesson there !
Fantastic tutorial thank you all the way from South Africa. .. I've just been given my first bow . ( German ) There are many UA-cam videos and they're great but yours really stands out. .
Thank you, I learned a lot in this video. I am sure I will watch it again as a refresher from time to time. Does a great job of explaining why and how things happen and work together.
HI Seth. Please HELP! I am messaging you from South Africa and I am in a huge predicament . Firstly just to paint a quick picture for you it took three years for me to find my 1/4 size Double Bass and thats not because I was busy trying out different Basses or couldn't make up my mind , it was the first one we found and bought it immediately ( sold everything that wasn't bolted down to afford it lol.) Double Basses and Bows are extremely hard to come by in this country and even student entry level Basses cost the same as a small car. My 1/4 Double Bass came with a French bow and I am 'defiantly' a German bow player , Now I have personally called every music store in this country and there isn't a single 1/4 size German Bow available ???? ( no 1/2 size options either?) So it looks like I am going to have to import one , I have watched tutorials on Bows and the different makes and sizes and quit a few Double Bass teachers are recommending that you choose a 1/2 size Bow over a 1/4 size Bow for a 1/4 size Bass ? I am about to go ahead and place the order but I am in two minds , do I choose a 1/4 or 1/2 size German Bow for my 1/4 size Double Bass ? I am 6'2 feet tall and have gone with a smaller Bass due to Multi Level Degenerative Disc Disease with Severe Spinal Stenosis , a small Bass and playing seated are my only options. There are no Double Bass teachers in my area nor it would seem any other Double Basses players to ask or turn to. Please advise , and thank you for all the helpful tutorials. Have yourself a lovely day and take care. Cheers. Gavin.
