Earth is home to so many impressive places, some are hard to believe until you see them with your own eyes…
We travel east to the country of Romania to visit one of the most surreal hidden gems on the planet.
We descend into tunnels that bore through pure salt, deposited by the evaporation of the sea that covered the region millions of years ago. In the depths of Transylvania, the other worldly chambers of Salina Turda hide.
Here, inside one of the oldest salt mines in the world, a sci-fi themed park lights up the enormous caverns.
Full sized attractions are surrounded by natural psychedelic patterns in what feels like a frozen wonderland from outer-space.
Within its deepest chamber, you can set sail on an inky black salt lake and row around a salt island, hundreds of years in the making, under a sky of sparkling stalactites.
Join us as we discover everything this unique and historic mine has to offer almost a thousand years after it was first exploited.

Mining first started here in 1075 and continued for 859 years, up until 1932.
It was opened to the public as a salt mine museum in 1992 but wasn’t renovated into a theme park until 2010.
The bell shaped chamber which is home to the lake is the original mine, reaching 90 metres into the earth. The lake reaches 8 metres depth in areas, surrounding the salt island which is like a huge stalagmite that continues to grow in size today.
The conical chamber came second, which is now home to the attractions, reaching down 112 metres.

I absolutely loved this video. As someone who is disabled and because of that, can't afford to go abroad and you guys and a few other channels are how I get about. Jess's enthusiasm was I think what made this video. I would definitely love to see more like this

This was an absolutely fantastic video:-). I visited Romania, a few years ago, which is an absolutely fascinating country. Stayed in an old village house, high up in the mountains of Transylvania, which everyday, to get back to civilization, one had to negotiate a dirt track down the mountain, avoiding the flocks of sheep and stray horses wandering around…. At night i would sit outside, gaze up at the incredible night sky and listen to the howls of the wolves nearby, which would then set off all the village dogs barking, and in the morning outside on the main Street of the village there would be loose chickens, ducks and geese. Every Sunday the villagers would race by the house, with their horse and carts!

Wow. . .The vast dimensions , the strange lights and structures . . .even the reflections in the water and the echoes of distant children really added together to make this all like a surreal dream. Very impressive.

Wow amazing, they just let the public walk around in there without a guide or an employee, this place is insane and beautiful all at the same time, can you imagine how eerie and spooky the mine would be if it was abandoned, absolutely if you want to do these types of videos as well, enjoy life while you are young see where it leads, we would love to come along. Absolutely Fantastic place!!! My husband and son and I went to a salt mine in Salzburg, Austria 40 years ago and it was awesome too. We had to wear a mining costume and go on a little train down to the mine. It was cool but nothing compared to this place!
