I went to a hypnotherapist to stop smoking, after trying absolutely EVERYTHING without success. The one requirement the hypnotherapist had was, "Don't own any cigarettes when you arrive for your session." I achieved technical compliance by placing my pack of cigarettes on a window ledge outside his office door; planning to retrieve them on my way out. That's how skeptical I was. But it worked! I completely forgot about leaving that pack of cigarettes outside the office, and I haven't touched a cigarette since that day in 2005. Everybody in my life was amazed that it worked--especially me. In fact, because it was so successful, I called the practitioner back about a year later, and asked if he'd be willing to work with me on my fear of flying (I survived World Trade). When I went back for that second visit, the hypnotherapist went way beyond addressing my fear of flying--he taught me a self-induction technique. It was like being given a superpower; I can put myself into a trance state anytime I want. Because of that, I've been able to develop a meditation practice. It would be difficult to overstate how much benefit came into my life after only two visits with a hypnotherapist. And I didn't even believe it would work, LOL.

Well Chase has co-taught with other hypnosis greats, some of which have actually said they do not agree 100% with Chase. And that bit of disagreement is an overall good thing. But to suggest Chase would not be instantly and completely attracted to learning hypnosis would be an error of colossal proportions. It would be like saying hypnotists have nothing to learn from the technology which Chase presents.

I've had panic attacks most of my life & in my 30s in desperation I went for hynotherapy believing it was all rubbish, how wrong I was, its the best money I've ever spent in my life. She gave me audio copies of my sessions which I listened to daily sometimes twice a day & it made a huge difference to my life. I occasionally listen to them now if im stressed or can't sleep. The first thing she told me was whatever you see on tv its not hypnotherapy today is what hypnotherapy is & duly showed me. I'd recommend hypnotherapy to anyone.

@karentweedley5478 Hynposis or trance, is a natural state of mind that people commonly experience without recognizing it. Movies, songs and ads use this principle to make big profits. You likely have a higher level of vigilance which prevents you from lowering your guard enough to let someone else access your mind, your thoughts, your emotions, etc. You can still benefit from self hypnosis. Anytime you use your imagination or memory, you are accessing your inner reality or your unconscious mind. In doing so, you are disengaging, to one degree or another, from the outside world, your outer reality. This is the threshold where trance or hypnosis takes places...

I did EMDR therapy after years of talk and CPT and it worked wonders for releasing me from constantly thinking about my trauma and trying to reslove it logically. Its where you move your eyes side to side and she guided me. It was tough because I had to access the memory that caused me PTSD. This video reminds me of that! My therapist had to re-direct me several times and I created imagry to combat the intrusive thoughts, it was beautiful. The process was very scary but I was desprate for something to work, I was tired of PTSD, avoiding triggers, grounding all the time. :)

I was a little disconcerted when Spidey mentioned how often he's un-programmed Bad Hypnotist's post-hypnotic suggestions. * AFTER repeatedly reassuring us hypnosis is totally safe for us.
(* The context was slow, test inductions, or as Chase said "practice". But why is your clean-up necessary so frequently?)

@@heidikickhouse- A google search tells me that about 1 in 18 people have tried hypnotherapy over the years in the Western world. In the US alone, there are about 335 million people. If we take 335M/18 (which is 18.6M) and look at just half of 1% of them (0.005%), that's still 93055 people. So that's an incredibly low percentage of people having a bad experience, but also a large number of people for one guy to potentially be treating. X)
Even if we decided that your odds of having a bad hypnotist experience is on par with getting struck by lightning (1 in a million), that means about 335 Americans get struck by lightning each year, so that's also still a lot of people for Spidey to do clean up work on (if they all came to him). So uncommon? Yes. But it happens. And it can be fixed if it happens, which is the important part. :)

I've been in hypnotherapy and was taught self-hypnosis 25 years ago and can still do it. I've found that (maybe because I associated it this way) for physical issues, (defeating a nicotine habit) the head to feet visual was more effective and for psychological issues (motivation, self-image) the feet to head visual was more effective. PS-Grocery stores and department stores are designed and laid out to "hi-jack your auto-pilot". I've observed people who aren't focused stay in a grocery store over 3 hours. Grocery stores are especially effective at it because they are warehouses of food, a basic human need. Department stores not as much, but still more hypnotic, to those with disposable income, and the ability to spend money on their appearance and material possessions.

I've seen a performance of a hypnotist on stage --he hypnotized my friend, who I talked with afterwards. He had no recall of what transpired; he was like, "OK, when are you going to start with the show?" The hypnotist told him while he was under, that he was Elvis Presley, and told him to sing one of his songs. My friend KNOWS that he can't sing, so he just "sang" the phrase, "Ain't nuthin' but a hound dog..." and that was it.
Based on the body language, tone and demeanor of the hypnotist in first scene of the movie, that read to me as "creepy", and I wouldn't let someone like that within ten feet of me, much less hypnotize me!
Along these same lines, I'd like you to do an analysis of an old movie, called "The Hypnotic Eye".
Thanks so much for posting this and all of your analysis!

As one of those not so bright people, that took well into my 50's to discover that I have aphantasia, and that other people really actually SEE things in their minds (and hear them), I am just now redefining how that makes me interact with and view the world differently from others. To that end, I am exceptionally curious as to how that effects things like hypnosis, as in could I even be hypnotized (have always wanted to try for pain management reasons), and if that changes the body language that I may exhibit, as in would that make it harder to read (maybe need more of a base line)? You two seemed like the perfect people to ask this of.

Riveting piece you guys! Chase Hughes, I’m a rock and dirt landslide survivor. The authorities who rescued me after I was found wandering in circles with broken bones couldn’t accurately determine how I got out of the full burial alive, alone. Either can I. But I do have an interesting thought/spiritual process which occurred under the ground. All agree they should have pulled out a body, based on soil test measurements. My story was picked up by a UK survivorship series. I have never been able to answer the question of what happened, other than a superhuman display of strength resulting in ejection, which authorities say would be near impossible with thousands of pounds of dirt surrounding me. Burial is a highly pressurized, debilitating and terrorizing experience. I would be interested in contacting you for the goal of determining how I got out. There is a key section of memory I am missing, entirely. You have calm, “trustful” energy. If this is a case you’d be interested in, I would be happy to contact you privately with the series link to study and and my write up on the incident.

@@christakenyon7043 I was actually thinking about classical conditioning and the good Mr. Pavlov, when I asked if it was ringing any bells. Through spaced repetition and the association of food with ringing a bell, Pavlov was famously able to have dogs repeat an involuntary response of salivation upon later merely ringing the bell.
The conditioning achieved by MkUltra was not obtained through hypnosis. This movie was not about hypnosis. This movie was more about using fear and torture, rather than useful hypnosis, to steer people AWAY FROM hypnosis. Although hypnosis was experimented with early on in the MkUltra work, it was soon abandoned. And although the MkUltra program was "officially" discontinued, the use of the knowledge obtained certainly was not.
What is more interesting to me, and what Chase Hughes has gone on to work with for the greater benefit of his clients, was the creation of alters (no, not the type you worship at).

How am I just now seeing this?! I guess it's because I have only been watching Spidey and The Behavior Panel since the Depp/Heard trial began.
As a hypnotherapist, I am fascinated by this analysis of a Netflix show which I've never heard of. I also didn't know that these two gentlemen, who I have admired immensely prior to seeing this, were hypnotherapists.
I'm still watching this, but I was always taught that hypnosis cannot make you do anything that you are morally or ethically opposed to.
I have never regretted becoming a certified hypnotherapist. I've helped many people quit smoking, reduce pain, alleviate fears and phobias, and even explore past lives (which is a special training in and of itself). It's a wonderful career that I thoroughly enjoyed.

    • @xzonia1
      @xzonia1 3 місяці тому +1

I've always heard that too (that hypnosis can't make you do something you wouldn't normally do), but I also understand that given the right circumstances, most people are willing to do anything, even murder. Like most people feel killing others is justified if it's self-defense or if you're a cop or soldier, so a hypnotist could just make the person imagine that's the case for them and then they'd be willing to kill. Chase explained that aspect of it really well with his shower example (person won't get naked in front of others but hypnotist tells the person they're going to take a shower, so naturally they undress).
I'd love to work as a hypnotherapist. I've always found hypnosis interesting. I just haven't ever had the money to take classes / get certified so I could treat people. It must be wonderful to know you're helping people in that way every day. :)

That was so interesting, and brought back a memory of when I experienced hypnosis for the first time to deal with my voice defect (Spasmodic Dysphonia). When I came out the other end an hour later I equated my experience with that of the life of a fishing trawler ! The commercial trawler heads out to sea, catches fish, hauls them into the hull, tops, tails and guts the fish then blocks them in ice. When it arrives in the harbour it passes out boxes of ready to market frozen fish. My first session sent my mind trawling all the way back in my life and when I arrived at the end of the session (arriving in harbour) I had a well packaged set of memories and thoughts to explain where my neck/ voice issues might have stemmed from. Really enjoyed watching both of your analysis of this movie. SUCH a treat listening to two intelligent men talking about their profession.

L R for context, I was sceptical and nervous when I went in to the session. However I was made at ease quickly by a very professional practitioner who had taken the trouble to research my condition before hand. What blew me away was it worked! My voice condition improved to a point where I was able to speak out in confidence. This did wane so I had a few ‘top-ups’ as time went on, but sadly my income couldn’t sustain the sessions. I went back to our health system, the NHS and continued with injected medication in to the neck. More invasive, with less good results. Despite the cost issue I’m a 100 % convert to hypnosis therapy. Thank you LR for asking your question.

I can totally relate to that - sounds like an absolutely exciting idea!
A psychology professor who used to teach in Vienna, Prof. Guttmann, once did a very interesting study comparing autogenous training and "meditation cd music". I only remember the images of the brain, not what they were made with, alas, but it pretty much proved people who have had years of autogenous training can basically turn off their brain. The images were astounding. By contrast (and not very surprisingly), the brains of untrained people listening to a meditation cd were activated rather than deactivated. So he referred to this music as "meditation disco".
At any rate, I'd really like to know where between these polar extremes you'd land based on hypnosis.

If one of the guys from the Behavior Panel says something is good, I believe it. Enjoyed hearing this review of the movie and definitely learned some things I did not know. I went through hypnosis about 10 years ago for weight loss and man did it work. When people ask me about it I can tell them I distinctly remember the first week or two after I started hypnosis, then after that it's like a blur to me. I don't remember struggling at all with eating. I don't remember watching the weight come off. After losing around 45 to 50 pounds It seemed like I woke up one day and truly recognized the weight loss and started trying on clothes that I hadn't worn in years. I know that sounds strange and maybe unbelievable, but that is what I remember. Also up until all this crap started happening with covid and some other major changes in my life I kept that weight off pretty effortlessly. This video today has actually inspired me to start listening to my hypnosis CD's again to get off the little bit of weight I have put back on over the past two years. Thanks guys!

Well I must have been living under a rock recently, because I’ve never heard of the film. I’m too impatient to watch your video though, so I’m definitely going to get some spoiler alerts haha. I started using sleep hypnosis videos occasionally, as I suffer from a chronic pain issue. It’s been a lifesaver! When you’re exhausted and all you need, is to switch off from your body/mind. I’m so grateful for the techniques I’ve learned through it to be able to do it myself, without the use of the videos now most of the time. (Unless I’m in a really bad way) Chase, your intelligence is a bottomless pit, I’m blown away by you, I’d love to know more about the work you’ve done in your life. I would love it if a memoir book was on the list, although I doubt you’d be able to talk much about all of your work, and I don’t think it’s the type of book you’d write. I think you’re too humble. When coming out I need to go slowly. I recorded each session and after many sessions I did not remember alot.
When brought out too fast I brought physical pain from a session with me, had to be brought back down to let it go and brought back out slowly.

I was very impressed with his knowledge and how well his therapy worked. I bought the tape to listen to for 21 days. He said the sleep Drs had found that being hypnotized once will last about 3 days. Because when we sleep, our brain, that was given new information will undo all the suggestions we are given. I wish I could remember his name. It helped me be a healthier and happier person. Never thought I'd see the day when we could all watch a Master and Student break it down together.

Who’s the master and who’s the student? No students here. Chase is one of the top behavior experts in the world and spidey is one of the top entertainers in the world. They are both masters in their field.

I'm blown away... I'm a new panelist on your other channel (1 week) and this video was in my feed this morning, so my first one on your personal channel.

I added some audio books on UA-cam to listen to. One happened to coincidentally be “The Parasite” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published in 1894!
And was a story not unlike this film as well as the things you were talking about.

@@chasehughesofficial I agree, I was raped under hypnosis by my therapist. By the way, I reported him and he lost his license. Very traumatic part of my life.

@@pj9251 how did you prove it? Did you record your session, or what evidence did you have? I’m curious because outside of recording it, I can’t imagine that it would be easy to prove
