I really didn't like the styling of the SRS at first, but that red paint completely turns it around.

How can I check the state of charge of the motorcycle every 30 days without waking it up and forcing it to leave the long term storage mode? 🧐

Hi PaddyLectric! You can check the state of charge on the dash by simply keying on, viewing the state of charge (SOC), and then turning the key off. The motorcycle will remain in storage mode until the stop switch is set to Run.

This must be only for the current generation. You might want to put that in the title or at least the description. I have a 2018 SR and if I leave it plugged in it’s going to charge to 100% and stay there unless I am mistaken which if that is the case I apologize. But, please confirm. Thanks.

You are 100% correct: S, SR, DS, DSR, FX, FXS, and FXE models on the older aluminum frame (not the newer trellis frame models) do not have this capability and should be manually ridden down to around 60% state of charge before storage, and periodically monitored to keep it above 40% or so.

Yes, I also own a 2018 SR and the last official guidance from Zero's website is to keep the bike between 30 and 60% SOC while stored. I keep mine in the 50 to 60% range and check it about once a month. No issues so far.
This video seems like it would be for someone with a newer model leaving their bike unattended for like 6 months to a year or longer. I would never leave an EV plugged in long term and unattended.

Hi there! For all users with the latest firmware, our new instructions for leaving the bike plugged in are accurate.

So I’m in the U.K. and on my second Zero. I normally ride year round but I’ve been laid up for the past six weeks. My Zero dealer has always told me that my storage charge should be kept at 30% ! Are they guessing or misinformed?

Personally speaking after having EVs for a few years now I’d keep your charge around 50-60% for storage purposes.

yep li ion batteries are the happiest around 50%, that includes 30 to 70% that are also very safe,
If I had a electrivc vehicle that I didnt use for months I'd probably just charge it once in a while to about 60%. maybe set an alarm every two weeks. but having storage mode that does it automaically is great, I wish phones where able to do that so I could keep my spare phone easily around 50%

LFP are different though they need to be topped if regularly and even recommended to be charged daily to 100% instead of 80%

Hi Shaun, sorry to hear you've been laid up for the past 6 weeks. We suggest you never store your motorcycle at a low state of charge (below 30%). The Battery Management System (BMS) will automatically drain the power pack to approximately 60% then hibernate. The BMS will perform periodic checks on the State of Charge (SOC). If the SOC drops below approximately 30%, the charger will be activated and charge the power pack to approximately 60% then repeat as required.

So my bike sat for over 30 days. I didn't know about the storage mode but how do I get it out? So I have to charge it? It's.not near a wall plug. I have to bring a generator to it

With the latest firmware, we do recommend you leave the bike plugged in to a charge source for long term-storage. When ready to remove your motorcycle from storage, disconnect the charger, turn the key on, raise the side stand, and set the Stop switch to Run. Turn off the motorcycle, return it to the side stand and reconnect the charger. Charge it for 24 hours to ensure optimal battery balance is restored.
