thanks for the video, I'm kinda new to guitars so i was a bit worried my pickups will get damaged or something haha.
Glad I could help! And good luck with learning guitar! 😊
I've got a guitar that's been sitting in its case for years, took it out and it's got a lot of rust, but also a lot of the bolts have kind of white fuzzy corrosion on them. Would this technique work for that do you think?
Also any advice for preventing rust etc from occurring in the first place?
Every tour i do
My guitar comes home looking like a WW2 relic
Sounds like a well loved guitar! 😊
@@ConorRocksYT the only guitar ive had with a painted neck so also the only guitar ive had that ive worn the paint off the neck from playing it so much lol
This thing has been through it all
Unfortunately its a neck through and the body is cracked now so itll have to be retired soon i have a custom model being built im just hoping this one gets through the next tour in one piece haha
@@DieboldTSZ Wow, that sounds like a well earned retirement! 😊 Good luck with your new guitar!
@@ConorRocksYT thank you!
I got a bad advice and cleaned up guitar pickups and hardware with vinegar - soda solution and now it seems it had chewed off the anti rust protective layer from them. Is there a way I can restore that anti corrosive layer back to them ?
sorry to hear that! are they PAF style pickups (with the cover)? if so, you might be able to replace the cover, or your local guitar store can.
you can get anti-rust products (like the spray can) which should work to form a new layer, but I've never tried it myself.
if you got ahead with this, make sure to fully cover any area that isn't the metal you want to spray. So, masking tape around any gaps around your pickups and put something like cardboard or a few layers of newspaper to protect your guitar's body.
Hey, thank you for the video. Quick q, why not take out the pickups from the guitar while doing this? Isn't it much easier to do all these with pickups detached?
Hi Barış, thanks for your comment. I find that leaving the pickups attached to the pickgaurd is easier, as it holds them in place while you clean them.
It is much easier to clean them with the strings removed, though!
It's a process and if you're not a pro I don't wanna mess w the insides
Hi, i have guitar with satin finishing
My body guitar is so dirty and moldy
Can you recommended what should i use for cleaning my guitar
Also i want replace my satin finishing into gloss
Thank you m(_ _)m
Mold is difficult to deal with - I've not dealt with it on a guitar, but I've dealt with plenty of it in my old house!
Firstly, I'd make sure the room you store your guitar in is temperature and humidity controlled. Next, clean the guitar with a very slightly damp cloth using a light detergent, and dry off any moisture with a clean towel. Open any windows and make sure the area you're working in is well ventilated!
To properly clean off the mold, you may need to use a stronger solution of either hydrogen peroxide and water, or white vinegar and water - but this could damage your guitar's finish - I'd speak to a luthier if it comes back.
I'd also recommend taking your guitar apart, removing and cleaning all the hardware (not any electronics) and ensuring the mold hasn't affected any unfinished wood in the cavities.
For replacing the satin finish with gloss, I'd recommend taking your guitar to a luthier for a proper refinish 😊
Can this work on any bass pickups?
Yup, it'll work for bass pickups too!
What if your hardware is gold not silver?
Thanks for your comment!
Do you mean the pickup covers? If so - it's exactly the same process. The hardware is the same material - chrome plated brass - just gold colored!
wont the silver polish damage the pickup?
I've used this method on my guitars over the years and haven't had a problem yet. By all means, you can skip this step if you're not comfortable with it!
@@ConorRocksYT thank you for the answer
i have another question, ho do i clean the rust on humbuckers? my humbuckers have coil made of flat poles so i can use your method but the others are not flat so it's more difficult to clean them with the screwdriver
what can i do?
