Hey Besties! This is Day 3 of the 12 days of Christmas and I am sharing my detailed video of me setting up my 2024 Sinking Funds. I hope that this video helps as I walk thru my process....Please let me know if you want me to offer the Sinking Funds Sheet and I will provide...🤗💜
It's not stealing information; it is sharing which is the right thing to do when you find something that adds to your life, pass the idea on to others. And, I have gotten great ideas from you which I have implemented. Thank you.
I'm so ready for 2024 and love all the goal setting! 😊 Personally I prefer to condense the amount of sinking funds I have. When there are too many small funds I can only contribute $5 to this and $10 to that. With one large fund I can do $75 and the amount available is larger. So instead of having a sinking fund for each person in my life, I have one called "Gifts". When a birthday, holiday, anniversary, graduation, baby shower or anything else comes up. I can pull from the one large fund. I have a personal budget of $30 for gifts outside of immediate family. You could also have 1 sinking fund called "Holidays" and include Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas etc all in one. You could even put the money for your daughters Valentine's day gift in her personal sinking fund instead of creating a new one. Just an idea to help simplify the process.❤
ME to!! That makes sense. I can probably condense the holidays...The reason why I like having an envelope for each family member is because I have to try and remember birthdays, special days, etc and if I just have it lumped into 1 fund, I may not have enough money when it is time to buy a gift for that person. Each family member will probably only get a budget of about $25 - $50 for the year but I see what you are saying...I know that it is a lot...I wont be contributing every time I am paid...
@@BudgetTreasureshi hi! just popping in here to share what I’ve seen another budgeter do to help with this. Intentional Living YT uses dividers in her envelope. She will have one Birthdays envelope but within she can separate how much goes to each person. Same with Holidays, the name of her envelope is Holidays but the tabs on her dividers are the different holidays. 🙂
Bestie! I'm here. I was so afraid you would disappear over Christmas holidays. I'm intimidated by all of your sinking funds but I got myself a cash envelope binder for Christmas.
LOL! I know...It is alot...Alot of the besties are telling me to calm down hunni....I have never had this many sinking funds before but I will take a look at it and see how I can condense.
I’m from the UK and it took me ages to work out what a sinking fund was 🤣. But now that I get it I am setting up my own for 2024. Vets bills, Holidays, medical costs, bills that I pay on an annual basis, car costs etc
Bestie! I think your trash should be divided by 4 if it’s quarterly. I’m working on my sinking funds and I totally forgot about including Costco and AAA on mine. You’re always sharing gems ❤❤❤ I also think I’m gonna do prepaid cards for my sinking funds since I rarely use cash.
lol I was literally about to comment "where you get that calc because the colors are just ooh"... then the button popped off lol I would be so distracted.... I loved this video it helped me organize my sinking funds!
I’m thankful for your end of year videos, it’s really helping me figure out how to set up my own envelopes too. I didn’t even think about planning this detailed yet.
I want to do envelopes, but it takes so much energy to get cash out, I enjoyed this video and the last one, it's definitely helping with my mindset, I got back into credit card debt and had a bunch of mispayments end of 2022 and deep into 2024. I'm trying to get back on track and stay there. My first steps are to stop beating myself down about it.
I’m new to the channel and I love the inserts of motivational videos but it’s the way you do well with explanations to make us really understand budgets!
I'm glad you call us besties lol!!! I was laughing and shaking my head like I would my best friend. When you said, "don't hold me to it" - I had to laugh because I was thinking it was a very long list and hope you won't get overwhelmed. However, I'm glad you sorted/organized the categories by priority and post debt. I do want to know if you would be less overwhelmed if you would consider combining some of the categories like airport/flights or all the smaller (less expensive) holidays (i.e. Valentines & Halloween) into one sinking fund envelope? Have a good day bestie! 🌊🌊
Yes...LOL. I am getting a lot of feedback to combine....I will see how I can consider this....I gotta get my brain to understand...LOL...I talk about how my brain works in todays video coming up at 5pm today...
I lot of the sinking funds can be placed in the same envelope. Ex. Personal gifts birthday etc. To simplify things. I would be totally overwhelmed if i gave everyone their own envelope. Im glad for your organization skills.
If you have insurance the mammogram is preventative and under Affordable Care ACT it’s covered with no co pay. Same for annual visit with no issues and 1st labs of year. As long as it’s a well visit.
Thank you for helping.motivate me to work on my set up for next year's budget and sinking funds. Love the drinking our water and minding our business!💧
Where did you get your sheet from? Looking for something similar (all the ones I'm seeing are too complex hehe more categories than I want, I want just like yours
Remember the total amount contributed to a sinking fund should not eclipse other priorities like 1) paying off consumer debt 2) saving 6 months to one year of expenses in an emergency fund and 3) saving 20% of income for retirement. It’s good to have goals. Once a person gets past the third step, it’s time to graduate tracking to a spreadsheet program. You will see what I mean once you have more than 5 sinking fund categories and fluctuating income and expenses. The good news is this is a positive sign of money management growth.
question: I am trying something new for the new year and that is to have a more defined budget. With the envelope stuffing or sinking funds, do you have a bank account and if so, what is the purpose of the envelope method?
I do both cash envelopes and bank accounts. I keep the cash envelopes for household items - groceries, non-food household items (soap, vitamins, makeup, etc.), etc. These are things I shop for in person. For my sinking funds, I have a separate savings account that I keep that money in. I can pay for items using automatic paying (annual subscriptions) or if I am using those funds for a gift or co-pay, I can pull the cash out. I look at my budget & bank account on a daily basis so I can remember what I did regarding using cash or debit cards. Over the last year I have been able to try a few different ideas with the cash envelopes and the sinking funds and found this worked the best for me. I hope this helps you.
My mom still makes us Easter and Valentine baskets, and we’re all in our 30s. I’m trying to get into sinking funds, but I don’t like handling cash, so I need to find a digital method.
It took me a long time to grasp the sinking fund concept. And two years to fully implement it. I found keeping a separate bank account for the sinking funds only really helps me to maintain control over those funds and not get them mixed up with my money for my household bills.
I was thinking of doing a No spent year but mostly for things that I personally waste money on like clothes, shoes, perfume, makeup, beauty stuff. I have tons of stuff that I just need to use. My idea is to buy something like that just if I need it. However, it is easier said than done but starting small is a good idea. So no spending January here we come.
I barely buy new clothing, and always get compliments. It’s remarkable how you can be nicely dressed when you invest in durable, quality clothing. So no fast fashion quality. I stopped buying synthetic clothing, and always check how things are made. And some of my clothing still look great, while they’re a couple years old. But just because you invest in a wollen jumper you end up enjoying it longer. Few year back, the year before corona, I did a no buy new clothes year. I did end up buying some second hand clothing, but only for things I truly needed. It was the beginning of a mindset change and realised the waste of money and clothing and junk I would buy in a year. I hope you’ll experience that too! It’s sometimes tough, to walk through a shopping street and see nice looking clothing in the windows. But you’ll start to notice that you’ve forgotten about it a week later again. Shops want you to buy stuff you often don’t need. 😢 By not buying, you’ll learn eventually what you actually need to buy. ❤ good luck! You can do it!
Catching up on your videos! I really enjoy your processes. I'm also a bi-weekly paycheck budgeter. I'm using a lot of your sinking fund ideas for my 2024 set up. When I'm calculating per paycheck deposits I divide my annual amounts by 26, but I'm thinking if I use your calculations I'd have two paydays I'm not contributing to sinking funds and that could provide me with actual 'magic' months! I'll have to marinate on this idea. Thanks for sharing! 💧
Greetings I’ve been watching your videos and I’m excited to start fresh in 2024. How do you make envelopes? Copays are a great idea. So much to thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas!!!
I'm new to this whole budgeting world and have a very silly question... I'd like to start doing cash envelopes just as you do, but some of these things that are paid are via card/online. How would you handle that? Do you stuff the cash in an envelope and when the time comes re-deposit? Or do you think just keeping those digitally in the bank is the easier choice?
Welcome aboard the good train. Yes, I do re-deposit back into the bank. For me, taking the money out works best. I don’t mind making trips to the bank.
I know you sell some printable books. Can you send me a link so I can buy them. I have looked in some of your video's but. I can't find the link. Thank you Laurie G.
Great video so far. I have started creating a list of sinking funds for the new year. For co-pays and eyeglasses and prescriptions, if you have a wageworks card you could use that for co-pays and prescriptions Just a suggestion
Great video. Gave me some good ideas. I really want to organize my binders. I have my subscriptions and I’m not sure if I should split them all up or put it all in one envelope. Not sure if that’s just savings or sinking funds. Got a lot of work to do. 💧
I have monthly subscriptions and they go in my monthly budget (exp: Netflix). Those that are yearly subscriptions go in my sinking fund budget (exp: Walmart+). This way, each item is budgeted according to when I incur the expense. Hope this helps!
