I ended up with two of these because I'd ordered one, because I'd ordered one on Amazon and waited four months. Then I ordered one on Ebay, having given up, and they they both showed up the same week. Both of mine are just really good, solidly well built guitars, and they both sound great! I'm going to have to sell one or give it away, because my house is starting to look at your room! Oh - now you've put it on the stand - yours is a totally different design that the IRK 300 I have - yours looks like what they used to call the IRK-400.
Sonically, yours sounds very much like mine. It's a great sounding guitar, no?!

Man, watching your review has gotten me re-excited about this guitar I already have in my collection. It really isn't my imagination. It really does sound very, very good! Yours sounds just like mine and has given me an objective take on that sound. I don't think I have another guitar that sounds quite like these things.

Hi Jeff…thanks so much for watching and commenting! Yeah, from what I have seen in the past, they did a couple of versions on these. Much like the changes they made to their “Fenderish” style guitars, they made some “concessions” on the body style on the horns to keep Rickenbacker at bay I believe. They certainly do have a unique sound of their own. You should have no problem getting rid of your 2nd one should you need to. Lots of folks are looking to grab one of these. You could always send it to me…I can find a good home for it…🤣🤣

Very cool looking guitar. I just looked for it on Amazon Jan.2024. Says none available at this time. Sounds pretty good. I am going to keep checking amazon and see if there are any other opinions on it. You always do good reviews.

I have had my eye on this one for a while now and it is never been in stock on Amazon so I have moved on. It seems to be everything I thought it would be a good looking guitar and it sounds great. Looking forward to hearing the changes you make.

Hi MB..thanks so much for watching and commenting. I am quite happy with this…not exactly a “true Ric” sound, but it will jangle a bit, and it will take a bit of distortion it seems without getting too muddy….1st time plugging in went pretty well. Truly appreciate your stopping in…🎸👍

Yeah…pretty elusive model. They just had around 10 of them on the 22nd of Dec. I saw them on Amazon when they had six left. Been looking at thismodel and the semi-hollow LP style, I think it's the IZ300. You can custom order and custom design a guitar with IYV, which is something I will get done in the next few months. Imo, the shipping charge will be worth it because of the guitar you get. I've seen 2 custom IYVs and both player say they've been terrific. Beauty of a Ricky, Jimmy!

Omg!! TV Guide!! I delivered the to on my bike!! Wow can't believe you brought that up. What great memories delivering them. Most memorable was when I got bitten by a dalmatian dog. That dog bit me 11 times.
Hi Spookshill….Memories for sure!! I had to get this big basket for the front of my bike (those TV Guides got heavy) and ride down to the post office (about 4 miles) to pick up the cases of Guides). Towards the end, I had to make a couple of trips to the Post Office just to get them, then it took two days to deliver my route! Man…I never got bit (11 times!!) by dogs, but I have some interesting stories….😎

It looks like Odin is GUARDING that box! 😂 I enjoyed hearing your stories about TV Guide and your early days with your band and your first guitar, by the way! Very interesting what IYV has done with the design of this model to avoid getting sued by Rickenbacker, especially when it comes to the headstock and the horns. The crucial question of course is: Does it SOUND like a Rickenbacker? I notice the bridge sounds very bright, but the neck sounds rather muddy-is that typical for a Rick? As for those toaster top-styled pickups: I would NOT be surprised if IYV is using standard humbuckers under those toaster top-styled covers. I would be delighted if I were wrong though. 😂
Hi PG….I cam out of the studio to film the B-Roll “box opening” and he was sitting there patiently waiting on me. 😻. Glad you enjoyed it! I ended up trading that 66 for a SG a couple years later as the next band I had was doing more “heavier” stuff (Bowie/Beck/Zep) that the Ric couldn’t really handle. You (along with my initial suspicion) is that the pups are probably humbuckers, but I will pull those covers and see what’s under the hood later. Always appreciate your stopping in…🎸👍

Hey Jimmy glad you were able to finally get one of the IRK Models. I kept trying to get one ordered in Nov. but ended up getting the IYV-ISSY-200NA, it’s a beauty, but the pickups sound very harsh to my ears; tried lowering them, and adjusted my amp but I think I’m going to try putting some leftover Harley Benton Rosewell Humbuckers in it🤷🏻♂️

I wish they would've went full maple. Basswood I thought would be too soft. I may be wrong. I just got the orange semi hollowbody with the top maple and back and sides Basswood. Love the guitar despite very minor finish flaws and garbage tuners .once tuned with the vibrato, it stays surprisingly in tune

Hi Brenda…thanks for stopping in! That’s the beauty of doing a “live loop” jam while filming. I utilize all 3 different pickup configurations during the loop so that one can hear the differences between them while actually playing the guitar. I also changed between o’drive and delays to see how the pickups would react…I do no pre/post sound editing in my videos. Trying to keep the sound you hear as close as possible to what I am hearing in the studio without overwhelming the room mic…truly appreciate your stopping into the channel and sharing your thoughts. I purchased a 330 blond Ric, back in '94 great rhythm guitar, but the glossy fretboard makes it a not so good for lead guitar. Slides and bends are a major problem on that slick neck, back and front both. It doesn't get played a lot. Tele gets played a lot more. Cheers !
Hi Kyle…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Yes, that’s the issue I had with my 66 as well. Fine for getting a jangle rhythm, but the neck was too narrow to grab underneath the strings and get those bends. That, along with adding a bit of “grit” didn’t always give me a tone that I was looking for. This model seems to correct those issues, which I am happy to report. An elusive model, and tantalizing if it were up on Amazon at that price. I'm not sure I'd play it much after the novelty except for the twangy things and CCR, but it's delightful to look at.
It's curious what IYV's strategy is. Do they put a few out on Amazon cheap so that buyers feel compelled to get it regardless of cost from other sources?
Hi Stan…thanks so much for watching and commenting. IYV’s strategy via Amazon was to see if they could generate interest for Amazon to buy a bunch of a particular model. Amazon’s algorithm for purchase is a complicated array that if a item sells well, then they will order more of course, but it seems Amazon has their “go to” models and IYV continues to try to get them to open up their purchase of other models. They can certainly sell them “cheaper” if Amazon orders in bulk, but breaking through the algorithm is not as easy.
@@JimmyStewart1 Interesting. Considering the speed at which those few guitars were bought, you'd think that Amazon's algorithms would be so sophisticated that it would trigger immediate (and slightly larger) numbers of the item to help determine its statistical worth to Amazon. Until then, IYV can't really tell this model's Amazon price point.
I wish there was an alert for specific IYV model's as they reappear on Amazon. I've explored that earlier with the acoustasonic-like model, but it really didn't work.

Yeah…Amazon’s system is certainly interesting to say the least. I certainly don’t have the answers, and there are a lot of 3rd party manufacturers and sellers who are still trying to figure it out as well…😎

If you are asking about a comparison between this and my original 66 Ric, well..I no longer have the 66…traded it in 1970 for a Gibson SG….

I can tell you however that I much prefer the neck on this one as compared to my 66. The original necks on the older Ric’s were just to narrow to my liking. Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel….i do wish I still had the 66 for nostalgia purposes! 🎸👍

Hi Eric…thanks for stopping in and commenting. I was trying to determine by ear as to the pickup configuration (single coil or humbucker) without pulling the pups…they sounded more like humbuckers to me. 1st part of the tone checks were all “clean”. I use no “pre/post” sound manipulation so what you hear is as close to what I am hearing in the room. Just the camera with a wireless mic and a wireless on my shirt. It didn’t have quite the “ring & jangle” of a Ric, but a pretty decent blend. Hope that helps….appreciate your stopping into the channel! 🎸👍

No problem my friend….as I stated in the video I was not sure (still not until I open it up) what type of pups IYV used in this. Part of the “Ric Sound” is of course the single coils they use, either in the newer Hi-Gain singles, or the original toaster style. Body design, along with the trapeze style bridge and tail piece also brings out that “chime” much like a Jazzmaster has. This is kind of a “blend” of those…with a better feeling neck in my opinion. Nice! I’ve only had one…I enjoyed it, but like I said the fretboard was a bit “cramped” for me. I played a Ric 12 string once and there was not much room on that…
