- Rivian today unveiled its new midsize platform which underpins R2 and R3 product lines.
R3 is a midsize crossover that is tidy on dimensions but delivers big in terms of performance, off-road capability, passenger comfort, and storage. R3X is a performance variant of R3 offering even more dynamic abilities both on and off road.
Tri-Motor (two motors in rear and one in front) configurations, with the quickest configuration delivering 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds.
Structural Battery: Utilizes an all-new 4695 cell that offers significant improvements in energy density and output, estimated to deliver over 300 miles of range on a single charge for both R2 and R3.
Fast Charging: DC fast charging is compatible with both NACS (native) and CCS (with adapter), charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
Self Driving: Utilizing Rivian’s new perception stack featuring 11 cameras, five radars and a more powerful compute platform, R2 and R3 will provide dramatically enhanced autonomous capabilities.

While there have been a few other cool EV designs that I've liked, the R3 and R3x are the first EVs I would actually consider. It's just the right size and the expected price is reasonable (35-40k for the standard model, 50-55k for the tri-motor R3X).
Love the look (really gives me Golf Country vibes), and there are a lot of thoughtful and practical design elemehts put into this. An R3X or dual motor R3 will likely be my next car. Hopefully the waiting list isn't too ridiculous once orders open up.
Loving the retro inspired design, it's beautiful inside and out, but I just can't get over the (imo) goofy looking Rivian headlights, such a shame for me. I really hope they'll grow on me because I'd love to buy one.

Leg room, where are you? Why do electric cars have a huge hood, there is no motor. This could have so much more space inside which is what matters the most.
Crumple zones are still a very necessary and good thing. They are plenty roomy with the omission of a drive shaft. Plus extra storage upfront is cool.
It reminds me of the Alfa Romeo 75.
