Didn’t realize they drove 4 hours for every one of these trips to the doctor for absolutely no progress. Chris is a good brother because I would not waste my time. Edit: Tammy is making great progress as of lately(2023). So I will give credit where it’s due. Good job Tammy!

I'm an old bat but in primary school I was very shy so if the teacher ever wanted me to do something I thought drew attention to me I'd complain of a headache so I could go to the nurses office. That's what Tammie reminds me of here & in previous clips. 'I don't feel good' is the excuse for not doing what's right. At her weight no one can afford to ignore her words & she knows it. More self sabotage for the quick fix of rubbish food/online attention.
"Pushes Doctor over the edge" I braced myself for Dr Smith to get quite angry with Tammy. He didn't. His calm manner is amazing and Tammy's refusal to do anything he's asked of her is highly direspectful. I know Dr Smith is being professional but I doubt I could be like him. Once I saw the weight increase I'd just say " Go now, stop wasting my time. Leave right now!!"

It's often like that with people trying to lose weight. Have you ever seen "My 600lb Life"? There are similar problems in that programme as well. It's not just in programmes, lots of people trying to lose weight who are not on TV programmes have those problems as well. It can be part of people's psychological make-up, if somebody's got a problem, it can be a lot easier to look outside yourself and blame somebody else, rather than to have to look at yourself, and realise that you might be the problem. It can be very uncomfortable for people to do that. People have to take responsibility for themselves if they do that!!!!!

Wallows in her own self pity because other people are not doing it for her. However, maybe this time she has had the call. This is her last chance, either it’s a priority or it’s not. She agreed that the Doc had every right to be frustrated. She has her whole family ready and willing to help. Even after everything she has said, done, and not done. I’m so glad that Chris mentioned to the doctor how Tammy makes her relationships a priority and how that’s an issue. Indeed it is! And the ugly look she gave Chris like “why you telling my business?” is so disrespectful. At least Chris is doing the work to better himself. She’s literally just waiting for the doctor to approve the surgery instead so she won’t have to do any of the work that she continues to avoid doing.

I know that childhood trauma and the awful mental illness of depression are at work in Tammy's long list of issues. Clinical depression nor childhood trauma are her fault. She, like anyone with those problems, deserves compassion and treatment. HOWEVER... I feel like a very, VERY significant majority of Tammy's reasons for not losing weight are things that ARE her fault. I hate to say this because I personally know how depression can just freaking sideline you and knock your motivation to zero, but here goes: TAMMY. IS. LAZY. LAAAAZZZZYYYY! Yes, she's experienced trauma. Yes, mental illness is mixed in there. Yes, this is an addiction. But there's something about her... idk, I feel like if you removed the above challenges from her life, she'd still be where she is because of the astonishingly severe level of laziness she's working with. I say this because so many 600+ pound people on tv, even though they're in the same boat as Tammy with weight and trauma and depression, those people at least acknowledge that their life is miserable and they honestly want to get better. They fail sometimes, but even then they at least have a desire for better. They're also embarrassed by their situation and they both recognize they are a burden AND they feel guilty for it. Tammy has no concept of how much people have to do for her, nor does she have any problem whatsoever taking the help. And taking. And taking. She's got no clue how much of a burden she is, but if she did she wouldn't care. She does not want to change. I will be sad when her death is announced in the near future, but not at all surprised.

Whenever Tammy doesn't get what she wants or doesn't want to hear someone tell her the truth, she's suddenly "in pain" and starts crying. Classic manipulator tactic. For someone of Tammy's size, losing 25lbs would be incredibly easy. In fact, it's harder to gain weight when you're as big as her than it is to lose it. In order for her to gain weight at the weight she is, she'd have to increase her eating, which should be difficult considering how much she's already eating. Realistically, all she'd have to do to lose 25lbs is, like, eat one less meal a day. She'd still be able to eat a lot of food, just a tiny bit less. The fact that she won't even try is simply pathetic and there's no excuse for it.
Agreed. In order to put on more weight at her size, she'd have to have started eating *even more* than she was to get to the weight she's already at - which is *already* several times more than what a person at a healthy weight would eat.

I don't think even that would help. You could show her the prices broken down for an obese person's funeral (since a woman of her size would need some custom modifications) and she would just shrug since, hell, she'll be dead at that point so it's not her problem. Tammy is the type to think she's never wrong. Her family honestly just needs to separate from her. She thinks they'll always be there to take care of her sorry fat ass and frankly even with them being more firm she still thinks she can run over them. (And in a way, she really is still running over them)

Talking about how much fun she had at the meet and greet, when they were sitting at a table and people came from all around just to get a look at them (like a circus freak). I don’t think that she thinks her situation is severe enough to be considered life and death
I agree. I've stopped watching reactions to Amber Lyn because nothing ever changed. She's another one who has more than once said she doesn't realise how big she is except for some of the times she catches herself in the mirror. She also uses past trauma as an excuse too. Tammy is so used to living in that body she sees no reason to change. The instant gratification of rubbish food, her family allowing her to treat them like muck & the attention from social media & male fetishists are enough for her. Being seen to try to get help for her addiction is just another form of attention, not a tool to change her lifestyle.
Exactly. It takes so much work to keep gaining when you’re already that big that if she changed even slightly she would lose with almost no effort. But I think the attention she gets from this is all she has going for her so why would she give it up?

Literally she starts every weigh in with 'I'm ready to do what I gotta do' she only says that to make it seem like she's done what she needs. She needs to go to the ward of the state. She complains about her stomach all the time, yet she knows inside what it is! EVEN HER BODY is trying to stop her from overeating, she ignores it and then whines to others like it's not her fault. I've been watching her and Amy on Season 1 to try and convince me she has some hope, when I see a thumbnail seeing how big she is now, I just give up on her.

i rly love how dr smith uses "we" language, he cares about his patients a lot. he holds himself to his patients and its a journey together. we all know how tammy is, but the way dr smith is and his language is. he's a fantastic doctor.

I love how she was ready to just sit and pout and not say anything to the doctor, but the moment she was able to blame her therapist for her lack of progress she lit RIGHT up. If she really wanted to do this, she would've called her doctor about the problems she was having with scheduling therapy, or she could've had her brother take her to a McDonald's or somewhere with free wi-fi if she was truly committed to this. But we all know at this point that she isn't. She'll never lose weight, ever. She'll die on this show.

Every single time I get updates on her she somehow manages to gain even MORE weight, oh my god. I wish everyone involved in this process the best, but you can only have so much patience and help toward someone who is unwilling to give back that same effort.
I'm so glad the doctor finally gave her and ultimatum. Everytime Tammy sees him she breaks his heart and he's right, she's wasting his time, her family's time, her time, and blowing money on gas. But it's not all shade though, look at Chris! He's looking fantastic! He's clearly been sticking to the program. I can't wait to see him and Amy reach their goal weight and get skin removal. Much like a train wreck you can’t look away from, TLC specializes in this in TV format. All of their shows draw a visceral “omg I can’t believe what I’m seeing” response from the average person and they can’t look away. That provides great viewership for the channel, which equals more money. They won’t cancel her unless she dies, and if she does, her funeral will be a 2 hour special at the very least!

She is lazy and not trying her best. I was once an obese person but tried my best to exercise every single day. I couldn’t walk properly because my knees are killing me. Now I am doing well and very active and still need to melt more fats. I love going to the gym and do my exercise👍 and I met heaps of new friends out there. I am happy now because I can wear nice lululemon and alo yoga gym outfit before I couldn’t fit their sizes because they dont have the biggest size 😂. I used to be size 22 now I am size 12 and still trying to shed more pounds 👍😆.
You are amazing girl well done! I have a similar story.. I used to wigh almost 400lbs.. I'm now 140lbs. Went from UK size 36/38 to size 10. My weight was masking a serious genetic Connective tissue condition and I definitely wouldn't be alive now at 40 without the weightloss. xx

Tammy's life view that she's 'going to get there eventually' is the clearest example of why she's not achieved any success. No matter how many people support you, the hardest things in life are always the one's we put off to "tomorrow". Sadly for Tammy, tomorrow may not come(figuratively or literally). Especially when she see's the life saving goals as someone else's rather than her own.
I do family practice for a living. It never ceases to amaze me how many people come back to me with the same issue and tell me they did not do any of my recommendations , and they are really surprised that their issue did not resolve.
For me, the saddest part is, this doctor is not asking for anything crazy. Walk 75 steps a day? Log the food you eat? Talk to a therapist about your food addiction? Like I’ve read in the other comments, it is much easier for someone her size to lose weight than it is to gain it. She doesn’t know that she is knocking on deaths door every day.
I’m glad they brought the rest of the siblings on the show bc it’s just too frustrating to see Tammy do the same thing every episode. With the other siblings they actually bring humor and drive. They’re a fun family to watch and I hope Tammy does get where she needs to be but she’s the only one who can do it.

I got real sick and I climbed up to 252 lbs. I didn’t like how I looked in clothes and hated the feeling of being obese. I found I had numerous illnesses including chronic pain and couldn’t sleep. My pain doctor said that he tells all his patients that if you lose weight the pain in your back gets better. So I went on a low carb diet for two years and lost 72 lbs. I’m down from a size 20 to a 14 and I’m much happier and fit into clothes. I have another 20 to get to have my weight as normal not obese. I’m still having to lay down a lot but I can get up and walk and clean house and care for my grandson I adopted. I’ve taken a break but will be getting on track again and if I see a couple of lbs then I start watching my food. I’m at where I can’t eat at times and throw a lot of food away that I shouldn’t be eating off my plate into the kitchen garbage. My weight is steady now. I look at these woman and they give me that boost to stay on track as I never want to look like them. That morbid obesity really turns my stomach. My daughter was going to school to be a doctor and did autopsies and she said the fat is so gross on an obese person and it smells. It’s like fat on a chicken but much worse. That it’s very hard to put them back together at the end of the day that the fat is put into garbage bags. How anyone can let them go is really hard to understand. You have to fix the inside before you can fix the inside. I’m 65 and plan on dying without that ugly fat on my body. You have to love yourself!

Her addiction is so strong that she needs to be in a long term rehab facility, which is where she has been recently. Hopefully the weight loss motivates her when she gets out of rehab.
Her walking in on her own and saying that she has done wrong and needs to fix it is massive personal growth. Yes, she is still difficult and not following all the instructions, but I think Tammy is finally starting to understand that SHE is the problem and only SHE can change her circumstance

Oh my god stop! Do NOT bring mental health into this! Her so called ‘depression’ as you call it is circumstantial - she has created the world she lives in by her own means. She no longer has Amy around to bully, manipulate & abuse, she no longer has Chris or his wife around to do everything but wipe her butt for her. She no longer has a family of foodies who she can binge around. They’ve moved on with their lives, had families, travel, go places, & rather than doing something about it to join them, she prefers to stay stubborn, miserable & with a bad attitude. Depression my butt. The only thing she’s depressed about is that she can’t click her fingers & be a slim size 18, she’s had everything handed to her & it still isn’t enough. You can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
That’s all that I see, a huge case of depression and possibly other things all stemming from things in the past, she might not want to be this size, but she doesn’t see the worth in the work or in herself. When being asked about the goals she seemed as if she was thinking what’s the point, definitely some self concept and big depression issues, people don’t realize that mentally healthy people don’t become like this.

Honestly at this point, just let her be. I mean I am sorry to say this but she's really reluctant to change, has bad attitude, is ungrateful to her sister and brother who try to help her the best way they can. If someone is hell bent on not changing then why bother, it's been going on for so long, let her be. TLC should just cancel her off the show and rope in another candidate who want to change and is willing to achieve their health goals.
It pains me watching this. Years ago alcohol completely consumed my life. I did all the same things she is doing in this video: making excuses, "I'll start getting better tomorrow", "it's not really a problem, I've got it under control"...all of these things. Breaking addiction and recovering from it is hard. But you MUST take responsibility. I know it's hard, believe me. But the doctor is right. She's going to hit rock bottom with this attitude. Maybe that's what it takes. I ended up in a jail cell at the lowest point of my addiction. The next day I swore I would never drink again; I'm now coming up on 8 years sober. You can get healthy if you want it enough, but first you need to stop making excuses and admit that what you're doing is a problem.

I've noticed these people live mostly in abject poverty, in small houses, that have nothing inside to occupy their minds, usually devoid of furniture (except TV) dark, windows covered and no books or anything to educate themselves. Their lives have no purpose, and this is the problem. Why would they want to do anything else than eat? They've got nothing in their lives to look forward to, no education, no interest in travel or exploring - walking out on the many trails etc. No hope really, so you can understand their dilemma because some have nothing to live for, sadly.
I’ve noticed this, too. I have yet to see books or even magazines in the homes of the people on the “600 pound” shows. And they typically have blank walls, too, which can be so depressing. No photos of family grace their walls, not even calendars with colorful pictures. Just blank walls. I’d go crazy.
I've been wondering about that. For how long they've been on TLC... you'd think they'd be making bank. Is it money management issues? Or are they being exploited for pennies?

It's often like that with people trying to lose weight. Have you ever seen "My 600lb Life"? There are similar problems in that programme as well. It's not just in programmes, lots of people trying to lose weight who are not on TV programmes have those problems as well. It can be part of people's psychological make-up, if somebody's got a problem, it can be a lot easier to look outside yourself and blame somebody else, rather than to have to look at yourself, and realise that you might be the problem. It can be very uncomfortable for people to do that. People have to take responsibility for themselves if they do that!!!!!

I know that childhood trauma and the awful mental illness of depression are at work in Tammy's long list of issues. Clinical depression nor childhood trauma are her fault. She, like anyone with those problems, deserves compassion and treatment. HOWEVER... I feel like a very, VERY significant majority of Tammy's reasons for not losing weight are things that ARE her fault. I hate to say this because I personally know how depression can just freaking sideline you and knock your motivation to zero, but here goes:

Yes, she's experienced trauma. Yes, mental illness is mixed in there. Yes, this is an addiction. But there's something about her... idk, I feel like if you removed the above challenges from her life, she'd still be where she is because of the astonishingly severe level of laziness she's working with. I say this because so many 600+ pound people on tv, even though they're in the same boat as Tammy with weight and trauma and depression, those people at least acknowledge that their life is miserable and they honestly want to get better. They fail sometimes, but even then they at least have a desire for better. They're also embarrassed by their situation and they both recognize they are a burden AND they feel guilty for it. Tammy has no concept of how much people have to do for her, nor does she have any problem whatsoever taking the help. And taking. And taking. She's got no clue how much of a burden she is, but if she did she wouldn't care. She does not want to change.
I will be sad when her death is announced in the near future, but not at all surprised.

For someone of Tammy's size, losing 25lbs would be incredibly easy. In fact, it's harder to gain weight when you're as big as her than it is to lose it. In order for her to gain weight at the weight she is, she'd have to increase her eating, which should be difficult considering how much she's already eating. Realistically, all she'd have to do to lose 25lbs is, like, eat one less meal a day. She'd still be able to eat a lot of food, just a tiny bit less. The fact that she won't even try is simply pathetic and there's no excuse for it.

You could show her the prices broken down for an obese person's funeral (since a woman of her size would need some custom modifications) and she would just shrug since, hell, she'll be dead at that point so it's not her problem. Tammy has absolutely no desire to lose weight, otherwise she would have by now. We all have our opinions, and personally I think she is enjoying being the size that she is. Talking about how much fun she had at the meet and greet, when they were sitting at a table and people came from all around just to get a look at them (like a circus freak).

I agree. I've stopped watching reactions to Amber Lyn because nothing ever changed. She's another one who has more than once said she doesn't realise how big she is except for some of the times she catches herself in the mirror. She also uses past trauma as an excuse too. Tammy is so used to living in that body she sees no reason to change. The instant gratification of rubbish food, her family allowing her to treat them like muck & the attention from social media & male fetishists are enough for her. Being seen to try to get help for her addiction is just another form of attention, not a tool to change her lifestyle.
Exactly. It takes so much work to keep gaining when you’re already that big that if she changed even slightly she would lose with almost no effort. But I think the attention she gets from this is all she has going for her so why would she give it up?

Look at the glare she shot chris when he talked about her chasing feeders. She has no intention of changing; the only reason she walked into the clinic was thinking it could get some of the heat off her back when she gets exposed for not doing what she was supposed to.
Literally she starts every weigh in with 'I'm ready to do what I gotta do' she only says that to make it seem like she's done what she needs. She needs to go to the ward of the state. She complains about her stomach all the time, yet she knows inside what it is! EVEN HER BODY is trying to stop her from overeating, she ignores it and then whines to others like it's not her fault.
I've been watching her and Amy on Season 1 to try and convince me she has some hope, when I see a thumbnail seeing how big she is now, I just give up on her.

i rly love how dr smith uses "we" language, he cares about his patients a lot. he holds himself to his patients and its a journey together. we all know how tammy is, but the way dr smith is and his language is. he's a fantastic doctor.
That doctor is so patient. I wish half the doctors I saw were so patient and nice, because I've seen a few not nearly as patient as this and I'm a healthy young person who pretty much never has to go to the doctors. Yet she's non-compliant and disrespectful and he's still being calm with her

I love how she was ready to just sit and pout and not say anything to the doctor, but the moment she was able to blame her therapist for her lack of progress she lit RIGHT up. If she really wanted to do this, she would've called her doctor about the problems she was having with scheduling therapy, or she could've had her brother take her to a McDonald's or somewhere with free wi-fi if she was truly committed to this. But we all know at this point that she isn't. She'll never lose weight, ever. She'll die on this show.

Much like a train wreck you can’t look away from, TLC specializes in this in TV format. All of their shows draw a visceral “omg I can’t believe what I’m seeing” response from the average person and they can’t look away. That provides great viewership for the channel, which equals more money. They won’t cancel her unless she dies, and if she does, her funeral will be a 2 hour special at the very least!

She is lazy and not trying her best. I was once an obese person but tried my best to exercise every single day. I couldn’t walk properly because my knees are killing me. Now I am doing well and very active and still need to melt more fats. I love going to the gym and do my exercise👍 and I met heaps of new friends out there. I am happy now because I can wear nice lululemon and alo yoga gym outfit before I couldn’t fit their sizes because they dont have the biggest size 😂. I used to be size 22 now I am size 12 and still trying to shed more pounds 👍😆.

I do family practice for a living. It never ceases to amaze me how many people come back to me with the same issue and tell me they did not do any of my recommendations , and they are really surprised that their issue did not resolve.

For me, the saddest part is, this doctor is not asking for anything crazy. Walk 75 steps a day? Log the food you eat? Talk to a therapist about your food addiction? Like I’ve read in the other comments, it is much easier for someone her size to lose weight than it is to gain it. She doesn’t know that she is knocking on deaths door every day.
Tammy has an excuse for everything. Everything. She is nothing but excuses and she doesn’t care. It’s the same thing every episode.
I’m glad they brought the rest of the siblings on the show bc it’s just too frustrating to see Tammy do the same thing every episode. With the other siblings they actually bring humor and drive. They’re a fun family to watch and I hope Tammy does get where she needs to be but she’s the only one who can do it.

At this point, I'm kind of hoping she just leaves. So the doctors can take care of real patients.
I got real sick and I climbed up to 252 lbs. I didn’t like how I looked in clothes and hated the feeling of being obese. I found I had numerous illnesses including chronic pain and couldn’t sleep. My pain doctor said that he tells all his patients that if you lose weight the pain in your back gets better. So I went on a low carb diet for two years and lost 72 lbs. I’m down from a size 20 to a 14 and I’m much happier and fit into clothes. I have another 20 to get to have my weight as normal not obese. I’m still having to lay down a lot but I can get up and walk and clean house and care for my grandson I adopted. I’ve taken a break but will be getting on track again and if I see a couple of lbs then I start watching my food. I’m at where I can’t eat at times and throw a lot of food away that I shouldn’t be eating off my plate into the kitchen garbage. My weight is steady now. I look at these woman and they give me that boost to stay on track as I never want to look like them. That morbid obesity really turns my stomach. My daughter was going to school to be a doctor and did autopsies and she said the fat is so gross on an obese person and it smells. It’s like fat on a chicken but much worse. That it’s very hard to put them back together at the end of the day that the fat is put into garbage bags. How anyone can let them go is really hard to understand. You have to fix the inside before you can fix the inside. I’m 65 and plan on dying without that ugly fat on my body. You have to love yourself!

Oh my god stop! Do NOT bring mental health into this! Her so called ‘depression’ as you call it is circumstantial - she has created the world she lives in by her own means. She no longer has Amy around to bully, manipulate & abuse, she no longer has Chris or his wife around to do everything but wipe her butt for her. She no longer has a family of foodies who she can binge around. They’ve moved on with their lives, had families, travel, go places, & rather than doing something about it to join them, she prefers to stay stubborn, miserable & with a bad attitude. Depression my butt. The only thing she’s depressed about is that she can’t click her fingers & be a slim size 18, she’s had everything handed to her & it still isn’t enough. You can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
That’s all that I see, a huge case of depression and possibly other things all stemming from things in the past, she might not want to be this size, but she doesn’t see the worth in the work or in herself. When being asked about the goals she seemed as if she was thinking what’s the point, definitely some self concept and big depression issues, people don’t realize that mentally healthy people don’t become like this.

It pains me watching this. Years ago alcohol completely consumed my life. I did all the same things she is doing in this video: making excuses, "I'll start getting better tomorrow", "it's not really a problem, I've got it under control"...all of these things. Breaking addiction and recovering from it is hard. But you MUST take responsibility. I know it's hard, believe me. But the doctor is right.
She's going to hit rock bottom with this attitude. Maybe that's what it takes. I ended up in a jail cell at the lowest point of my addiction. The next day I swore I would never drink again; I'm now coming up on 8 years sober. You can get healthy if you want it enough, but first you need to stop making excuses and admit that what you're doing is a problem.

I've noticed these people live mostly in abject poverty, in small houses, that have nothing inside to occupy their minds, usually devoid of furniture (except TV) dark, windows covered and no books or anything to educate themselves. Their lives have no purpose, and this is the problem. Why would they want to do anything else than eat? They've got nothing in their lives to look forward to, no education, no interest in travel or exploring - walking out on the many trails etc. No hope really, so you can understand their dilemma because some have nothing to live for, sadly.

I’ve noticed this, too. I have yet to see books or even magazines in the homes of the people on the “600 pound” shows. And they typically have blank walls, too, which can be so depressing. No photos of family grace their walls, not even calendars with colorful pictures. Just blank walls. I’d go crazy.
