I've never really been a fan of legacynaming for Warriors. When each name is supposed to be unique to the individual (in theory), why rob a cat of that individuality? This goes for pretty much every combination: prefix-prefix (Needletail and Needleclaw), suffix-suffix (Pebbleshine and Violetshine), prefix-suffix (Leafpool and Hollyleaf), and suffix-prefix (Sandstorm and Stormheart), but the last two I'm a _little_ more lenient on since it's not as obvious. But at the very least, ask the apprentice in question for their opinions on their warrior name. I'm reminded of that one scene in PO3 where the apprentices discuss warrior names and Icepaw mentions she wishes to be named Icestorm and Foxpaw suggests the (admittedly terrible) name Foxcatcher for himself. I guess that's why I like the systematic nature of modern fan-made naming systems; it's pretty cut and dry what the cat will be named when they become a warrior, and when you know what the system is and you read the name, you'll know what kind of cat they are. They could even hide their cards and pick a name that undermines their skills. You can get some neat names out of that, like I have one named Morelmoss, a brown motherly molly.
I think legacy naming is fine, but EVERY cat should not be legacy named. For example, I would prefer if cats who legacy named their kits only named one after a dead cat. Except Lionblaze, because he has some that aren't, and it seems in character for him imo. None of this "Spotfur named all three of her kits after the dead cats in the arc she was in" unless it somehow ties into the theme of this arc. I still wouldn't like it, but then it would at least be good for themes and plot development. Also, creative legacy names are fine. Like Rootkit for Tree, I won't be mad because it's clever. Although, it was somewhat ruined by the fact that the authors gave Tree a father named Root, meaning Violetshine's WHOLE LITTER is uncreatively legacy named. Also, I prefer suffix legacy naming to prefix, it gives the character time to show traits that another cat has aside from just "looking similar". TL;DR: I agree with you mostly with some exceptions. Also, sorry it's so long.
@@diddykitty746 I think it makes sense for Spotfur somewhat because a large part of her character after she discovered she was expecting was that she was yearning for the life she should of had with Stemleaf (and later Bristlefrost, who promised her to help her raise her kits and was unable to). (Also one of her kits is named after their great-grandpa Graystripe, which I just think is cute) I do agree that legacy naming gets old after a while, but I much prefer it if it’s either more creative (like Rootkit and Tree’s dad) or if it’s cool trivia for background/relatively unimportant characters (like Hawkwing’s sister Blossomheart naming one of her kits after Duskpaw, their brother).
