- In 1985, Sophia George emerged on the world stage courtesy of her smash debut single "Girlie Girlie". A song that topped the Jamaican charts for eleven weeks and also charted internationally. She seemed set to enjoy a huge career but dropped out of sight after a few years

I was the drummer of her debut tour, with PROFESSOR LARRY on bass and MALORY WILLIAMS on keyboard, BUBBLERS and TONY from RUFF-CUTT, and I RAS LEROY HOLMES on drums.She was a force-of- nature and a ray of sunshine who deserves ALL the blessings of JAH, I’m glad to see her and CHUNGIE endured. Yay!!! My childhood ❤❤❤❤❤ I lost it when I first heard this again in the U.S. Took me back to being a little Ghanaian-Nigerian girl in Nigeria. We used to rewind to catch the lyrics and LOVED the video. We screamed when we heard our countries mentioned as where this Girlie Girlie young man/gyalist had girlfriends 😂

I loved the eighties as a child growing up, it represents, peace, security, laughter and very very fond memories of my family.
I remember my father loved Girlie Girlie and I remember the replies to it as well, Bwoyie Bwoyie and Lovindeer's Jumpy Jumpy. I always wondered what had become of her but it's good to see she put family first and her children have been successful in their endeavors.
I definitely remember this track as a child coming up. It was played in heavy rotation and words were catchy

This was amazing because my Mom and Dad grew up loving the Girlie Girlie song. My Dad still owns the record till this day and I would often spin that record every now and then. It seems like Sophia George was too wholesome for the spotlight, so I wasn't surprised to see her drop her music career to raise her family. It was good to know that she is doing well after wondering what happen to her after all those years after the Girlie Girlie hit song.

Yes Girlie Girlie was a smash back then. Everbody loved it. Unfortunately female reggae artists besides a few have hardly even being examples of longevity..June Lodge ranks top among them in the 80s in that regard.. It's no secret though that staying 3 years (back in the days) without releasing new material in the competitive reggae almost always has its consequences ..
