Sadly like he died in 2020 and they buried him or cremated him or some shit like that. I'ze well sorry cos he was a well good actor.
Geoffrey Palmer has been around for ever. His list of credits is enormous. While he has had leading roles in some great shows, he was also known for his character acting. In the US everybody wants to be a star, in the UK there are a number of character actors who are very well known - he was one of them. Rather than being “cheap hires” or second rate actors, these people become prolific because of their remarkable talent and ability, consummate work ethic and likability. When working with tight TV budgets, you need someone who can come in and perform perfectly and get on with everybody. They are the opposite of divas. In recent years I have seen a couple of UK miniseries where virtually every part was played by a well known character actor. In the absence of “stars” watching a show where everyone is of the standard their profession requires is actually quite exhilarating. Their acting is next level, since they are not bound to the character. They aren’t affected by trying to be likeable or cool enough to ensure another series. I’ve seen Palmer play roles where he was totally loveable and others where you could only despise him. I have no doubt that the other four in this sketch would have been thrilled to be working with him.
Geoffrey Palmer the older guy is renowned for his comedy in the UK too, he starred in one of my favourite sitcoms of all time called 'Butterflies' which also starred a young Nicholas Lyndhurst, and he also starred in the long running sitcom 'As Time Goes By' alongside Dame Judi Dench, you'll have seen him in Fawlty Towers too and he makes an appearance as Field Marshal Douglas Haig in 'Blackadder Goes Forth' which you just started reacting to, he's an absolute legend in the UK, love the guy!

Butterflies, oh I'm dating myself. With the wonderful Wendy Graig and a young Nicholas Lyndhurst. I always remember how in the series "Butterflies" how Ria was a terrible cook.
Geoffrey Palmer (the Commanding geezer)did a lot of serious acting roles, but is also well known for his work in comedies. He was a bit of a National Treasure, and sadly passed away in 2020. He was awarded an OBE for services to Drama.
Geoffrey Palmer was in comedy series Whoops Apocalypse an early 80's satirical show about the expected nuclear war, sadly forgotten, it predicted John Bolton and others, had the ailing Soviet premier dying and being replaced by an equally old clone every 5 minutes.
Someone else remembers that show! "Anyone who does a frontal lobotomy on me will get a piece of my mind!" IIRC Palmer played a British politician working alongside Superman... erm, the Prime Minister.
Geoffrey Palmer has done lots of serious stuff on stage and screen but he is actually best known as an actor in sitcoms. Particularly in Butterflies, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and as the joint lead with the long running As Time Goes By. He was also in Fawlty Towers as the sausage obsessed doctor and Blackadder Goes Forth as Field Marshal Haig advising Blackadder how to convince people he was mad.
Just to let you know King, David Mitchell is starring in a new BBC show called 'Ludwig', where he plays a police detective, with all the usual Mitchell hangups.
Geoffrey Palmer had been around forever on TV and film, passed away at 93 in 2020. His films roles were mostly serious characters but his television shows were mostly comedy, he had a very dry delivery which made him popular.
Palmer was the doctor in the Fawlty Towers episode when a guest died in one of the rooms. He was also the main character in the comedy A Fairly Secret Army, which you can watch on UA-cam.

Geoffrey Palmer is well know in the UK as a comedy actor in various sitcoms as well as a character actor on films - featured in a Bond movie as head of the Royal Navy sparing with Julie Dench as “M”.
I teach a lot of teenagers in different parts of London. This is exactly how a lot of them speak. Especially the unusual response, “IS IT?” to anything even if it makes no sense as a reply. “Sir, have you had a haircut?” “Yes, I have.”” IS IT?..” “By the way, you don’t need to call me Sir.” “IS IT???” Very endearing.
Geoffrey Palmer's credits include tv sitcoms Butterflies and As time goes by (With Judi Dench) as well as several appearances in Doctor Who and on film he has appeared in Mrs Brown (With Judi Dench) and the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (With Judi Dench)
It was funny to me to think of you immediately recognizing Geoffrey Palmer for mostly his serious acting roles (which is fair and entirely reasonable) but to me I think of him mostly for 2 extremely successful TV comedy shows in my childhood. The first was 'Butterflies', a 70's TV sitcom where he played the rather dull/boring Dentist husband of the main character, Ria, a housewife going through something of a midlife crisis. The second was "The Fall And Rise of Reginald Perrin" which ran from 1976 until 1983 and starred the British comedy legend Leonard Rossiter. Palmer played the Brother in Law of the main character, so again a sort of 'supporting role' and often the 'straight man' for the gags. Both of these shows were hugely popular, but especially 'Reggie Perrin' which is almost as iconic as 'Fawlty Towers' (another comedy show that Palmer appeared in). He's a great actor, and has worked with absolute legends of stage and screen. I would VERY much suggest you check out "The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin" as while much of the humour is satirizing the British culture and way of life, a TON of it is in particular satirizing influences that came from American corporate culture. I'm sure that you've absorbed enough cultural references from other British comedy to absolutely love it.
Hi Like your ‘pod’. You mentioned the fact that you cannot stand the way in which animals are introduced to places in order to ‘fix a problem’. But instead become a bigger problem themselves! Many people would agree with you. Yesterday I was watching UA-cam about Rathlin Island, a small Island just off the tip of Northern Island itself, and apparently rats and ferrets were accidentally introduced to the Island with the result that the Puffin bird numbers are falling dramatically. I understand your frustration, I hope the RSPB can turn things around. On a more happy note Geoffrey Palmer played a Doctor in the series Colditz in the 70’s he was brilliant! 😊
My favorite Geoffrey Palmer role was the one he had in the classic British sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, as the paranoid prepper Jimmy Anderson. Busy organizing his secret army of one and delivering hilarious dialogue with that totally deadpan face. I can't put an example here because YT would have a stroke. Oh, why not? ua-cam.com/video/oJ-9R6NCZ0A/v-deo.html
The older guy is Geoffrey Palmer - he's been in everything. One of these days I hope you watch "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" - one of the UK's greatest sitcoms ever, which he had a supporting role in. BTW, Ben Miller does both comedy and drama roles and has been lead actor in a couple of detective series (Death in Paradise and Professor T). He's also written several books and is seriously intelligent (with an advanced degree in quantum physics).
Comedians doing things for comic relief is like when music artists write songs for other projects and people. They keep the best work for themselves. It’s more to keep themselves in the public eye during quiet times.
My old headmaster was Mr White and he was called Chalky too though we didn’t say to his face. Apparently he was walking past a student who didn’t realise he was there and said his nickname. Let’s say he was not at all pleased 😬
a few years ago, I was about to drive out of a parking space in Aldeburgh, Suffolk UK,, next to the beach. I live in the area.. he wasn;t paying attention and walked right in front of my car.. I patiently waited of course.. he then sort of 'woke up'.. and said sorry sorry sorry.. he then loped off casually, lol.. to the Hotel across the road. Someone said he and others were filming nearly at the time.
Some of the comic relief sketches are lame but this one and Ali G interviewing the Beckhams are pretty Good. James Corden as Smithy being appointed England football manager was quite good especially as none of the team were actors.
A lot of time, the sketches made up for comic relief are thrown together because of the amount of time they are allocated on the show, and the fact that some of the people init don't normally work together, plus they may only have a small window of time, that all involved are free at the same time as each other
You mentioned Peaky Blinders, if you'd like to try some other British series, although it's quite old now it's still some of the best UK drama - Have a look at "This is England" film and series by Shane Meadows - Not really something you'd react to, but very worth watching all of the series.
@kingboomer Please do Catherine Tates sketch "The Offensive Translator" The premise is - what ever anyone needs she says "I can do that!" No matter what it is! They are all funny but The Offensive Translator is *really* funny. What's great is, if you read the comments, people of all nationalities get the joke and aren't offended. It's obviously from the early 2000s - you know when we had a sense of humour 😒 I can't be the 1st person to recommend this sketch, I understand if you think it's too "problematic" to do, I just think it's a shame we can't laugh anymore without people getting offended on OTHER people's behalf, when they actually *get* that it's a joke. Loving your channel King Boomer! Have you ever watched the British "The Office"? The original one! 😉😁 it's soooo good!
Boomer, that's sacrilege (joking) Peaky Blinders blows BoardWalk Empire out of the water. Perhaps watching further seasons might improve on it,but each show has it's fans
It saddens me that that's so often the case. Occasionally though you'll get a sketch like this, where not only are the folks involved enjoying the rare chance to work together, but they're really committed to doing just as a good job of it as for their paid work. It shows that they're there to properly support the project, not just to be seen "doing some good".
Boardwalk Empire was brilliant. I watched all of it in 3 days, after I'd gotten into The Sopranos, another binge fest. I'm a bit slow to get to these classics, but I'm getting there.
You should definitely watch the Wire if you have not seen it the actor who plays chalky white from Boardwalk is in it and plays one of the most iconic characters ever. Yo Omars coming.
See the fundamental joke here is that in WW2 young men aged 20-25 were flying these machines, performing incredible acts of bravery and endurance, and generally being pretty incredible. This is contrasted with the modern youth who can barely string a sentence together, are concerned with disrespect and mental health and victim culture, most of the kids in the London area talk like this now and have for time blud.
My father was one of those brave young men, he was 21 at the time and was a baker, God knows how he survived but he did. I'm sure the youth of today would also rise to the occasion if needed. Chances are they'd be better at it, after all many have played war games on their Xboxes etc.. There is a fighting spirit in us Brits, we come together when needed. Shame that certain right wing people are trying to divide us..They should learn about the history of the country they claim is theirs..
@@benjammin1212 My grandfather went over on D-Day, something that I can barely believe now. Somehow he survived and worked out his days in the RAF mess halls of Lincolnshire as maitre de to the brass.

Sadly I didn't end up joining the RAF, one of my lifes regrets but always felt a strong connection to them, I lived not far from Biggin Hill, so got to see the spitfires every day and use the facilities there..Done another very short stint at RAF Northolt , scaring birds off the runways lol..Massive respect to your grandfather, may he rest in peace. If it wasn't for brave men like him, my father and countless others, we wouldn't have the lives we have now..They will never be forgotten. .
Oh man, Boardwalk Empire is right up there with The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and The Wire as a gold standard classic. Peaky Blinders is enjoyable enough, but it doesn't come close. Richard Harrow could take Tommy Shelby any day of the week.
Please don't KB ! If the was ever a pile of utter nonsense tv series with atrocious acting being propped up only out of desperation for diversity, it's Boardwalk Empire.
Peaky Blinders was rubbish to be honest. Boardwalk Empire was one of the best written TV series I've ever seen (especially as it had real-life characters in it, fictionalised of course).
Who could forget Geoffrey Palmer as the doctor in the Fawlty Towers episode "The Kipper and the Corpse"?
"I'm a doctor and I want my sausages!"

Geoffrey Palmer - Fairly Secret Army. Hit and miss tbf
Boardwalk Empire was brilliant. I watched all of it in 3 days, after I'd gotten into The Sopranos, another binge fest. I'm a bit slow to get to these classics, but I'm getting there.
Love Boardwalk Empire
Comic Relief , Family Viewing
If you feel you need a Mitchell and Web topup, check out the Queen Victoria one ua-cam.com/video/aHze0SqB5Zg/v-deo.html
Wasn't this for Comic Relief or some shit? Isn't it? Standard.
You should definitely watch the Wire if you have not seen it the actor who plays chalky white from Boardwalk is in it and plays one of the most iconic characters ever.
Yo Omars coming.
Check out chalky Jim davidson 😂😂😂😂
Boardwalk Empire is nowhere near as good as Peaky Blinders.
Please try tony ferino by Steve coogan I feel ud love 😊
Have you reacted to the best ever British movie?
Choose life, choose a job, choose a family. Choose to do that to an American tourist...
@@pigknickers2975 Your grandfather sounds like my kinda guy, I done a very short stint as a cadet in the mess hall at RAF Manston, most cadets chose to work with the vehicles, not me lol, coming from a family where there was never any food in the house working in the mess hall cooking for two weeks was like heaven. If it wasn't for brave men like him, my father and countless others, we wouldn't have the lives we have now..They will never be forgotten. .
Yeah totes
Blinders is shit and Boardwalk was great!
Yeah comic relief sucks , but it’s for a good cause.
Boardwalk empire was great!
Oh man, Boardwalk Empire is right up there with The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and The Wire as a gold standard classic. Peaky Blinders is enjoyable enough, but it doesn't come close. Richard Harrow could take Tommy Shelby any day of the week.
the average life span of a ww 2 pilot was 3 missions
In Vietnam it was nineteen.
@@robertsutton7949 N,n,n,n,n,n, nineteen? That's bare low.
No it was 20 minutes.
Correct-Boardwalk Empire is far superior to Peaky Blinders.
