- Here I discuss the origins of the Pindo Palm in North America and how recent genetic testingon these plans has determined that you may not have the species you think you have!

I planted two B. Odorata last summer in my U.K. garden and they have survived a minus 7 degrees centigrade so far, keeping my fingers crossed for the remainder of the winter. Thanks for the info, I didn’t realise there are so many varieties.
hi how did it go.
Informative rather that the usual, "This is my palm. Look how cool it is." video. Thanks.
Those are two very handsome specimens, a great job was done with the pruning! The spacing of the leaf bases and upright configuration seem slightly different than on the typical Butia capitata.
I wish I knew about this palm when I lived up north
Due to their relative cold hardiness, I have seen these growing as far north as Sheveport, LA in the northernmost region of the state. I have actually seen icicyles dripping off the fronds (leaves) in Shreveport! And after they melted, no apparent damage. I don't know the absolute cold limit, but it's got to be way south of freezing.
A bad boot trimming job ruins the look of Butia - someone did a great job on those. The discrepancy and confusion in what's sold might account for so many failures in the northern part of Butia culture, as not all species have the same hardiness - at least that's my excuse for losing so many over the years
the more the curve in the frond, the better. Nice Video.
Great palms! What is the distance between the trunk and the wall?
Nice video and info. Which butia types flower at which stage / trunk height?
does the species make a difference on the edibility of the fruit? people make jelly out of it
Great video. One question. What will be the best way to water this palm on the ground on summer. I read that this palm dont like "wet feet" Thank you
Super neat info!
Nice, odorata i have in 🇳🇱.It is dificult to sprout. Thx for the info
Great video bro
Good video 👍
Beautiful palms, I love your channel. But, Butia's don't recurve, they simply curve. "recurve" describes something that curves in one direction, then gracefully switches and curves in the opposite direction. Like the difference between a recurve bow and a traditional bow. 2 arcs compared to one arc.
Recurve = bend backwards. Oxford English dictionary. Ie the fronds.
these are extremely common all the way up to virginia beach, not just georgia
My question is; How do I identify the one that makes the delicious edible fruit?
Didnt know you where out there i got from Liwes 2 small table top size palms 1 i think is a pony tail palm other the clearance label was over the sticker. The pony tail wasn't maked eirher but i have seen ones label bonsi pony tail palm i belive. I had to tepot in same pot cause it was dangling with roots. It had lost about 1-2" of soil so i added soil yo pot and replanyed i know you dont bury them so i put just enough to keep from falling. Do you have a video on these small ones and the care
How would you germinate these pindo palm seeds? Do you have to wait for the fruit to ripen before trying to grow their seeds?
I got one doing well in full ground for about 10 years now but the trunk is a lot darker then the ones in your vid. Do you know anything about these kind of butias?
This palm grows very well in Virginia Beach!
and zone 7 near dc :)
@@lemango9064 I myself have raised a few in zone 6 SW Pennsylvania just north of West Virginia. Beautiful specimen closing in on a decade!
can you try germinating medjool date palms
Woah is this climate change virginia?
Easy. Look on UA-cam
From what I read there is roughly 20 species of Butia and that's not including the hybrids 👍
23
Do bats live on them?
This one is a b. Eriospatha. It is native here in the Araucárias
Araucarias forest
Você sabe que pode ser Butiá Odorata também mas apenas essas duas possibilidades vem em minha cabeça odorata e Eriospatha é difícil falar realmente quem pode ser.
It doesn't look like eriospatha that I have, the fronds look too glaucas and frond boots are different. What makes you believe it to be eriospatha as opposed to yatay/ ordorata? It looks more yatay to myself.
👍
esta palmera No es Pindó Palm, la palmera Pindó es syagrus romanzoffiana, que nada tiene que ver con la familia de las Butias.
this palm tree is not Pindó Palm, the pindó palm tree is syagrus romanzoffiana, which has nothing to do with the Butias family.
It’s a jelly palm
Aucune information, très mauvaise vidéo vide et tout en blablabla
Vraiment?
