"You may be wondering Where all this wandering leads You're lost but at least You've nowhere to be And no one to leave you" Incredibly painful and poignant lyrics. Definitely one of my favorite artists of all time
Got into Mikes Owen stuff in ‘07 when I was 17, I’m 34 now, married, and semi recently left home in Southern California for the Midwest. His songs always felt relatable, but with the course of my life…they hit so much harder, especially songs like this. My wife added A Bird In Hand to our reception playlist a couple years back, such a surreal experience. Have seen him in LA and San Diego and he was always cool.
I'm starting to prefer him solo than with American Football now. Not because this is necessarily better, but because he's singing at the key he is most comfortable with. If you ever see his live does with AF lately, he's struggling. He's so comfortable and relaxed here. Beautiful song, beautiful video.
I find his writing style a lot more meaningful here (not that AF isnt) But I 100% agree with you, New Leaves is my jam, as soon as winter hits I play the album at least 4 times a week
Late 2013/early2014 "real" emo started to hype up. That's why lots of emo bands got back together, to make some money of the hype, props to them though, gotta feed the kids. Ofcourse would Mike Kinsella's heart be more at Owen than at AF. But tbh I really appreciate the new AF stuff too, "My Instincts are the Enemy" is an awesome song.
Dude, this song and any other owen songs designed to be played like this. AF is more on adding mathrock to their sad songs which you thought mike was struggling when they play live. Good catch though.
I just lost my aunt from heart attack last week . She’s like a second mother to me. She took care of me when I was young. And this song and video perfectly captures the emotions that I’m feeling right now. Can’t believe that anything can happen with just blink of an eye
Nice stuff, 9 studio albums already? Wow. I remember when I first found out about Owen 'At Home with Owen' had just come out. Glad I found his music and American Football back then.
Hey there thank you. I'm honored to be recognized :) After I found Empire Empire on here it led me to upload some of their songs to my channel (in their honor) and yeah try to get to other Empire Empire uploads. Empire Empire led me to a lot of great bands on the Count Your Lucky Stars label.
Stay poor and die trying Take the drugs I didn't take Lay the horse I didn't lay 'Cause I was too afraid that I might like it Carry scissors with your teeth Bury your burdens underneath your lover's skin Pack a bag and pick a fight Lead with your left And leave while your lies still breathe Wherever you arrive Pick another fight And leave the fucking bag behind You may be wondering Where all this wandering leads You're lost, but at least You've nowhere to be And no one to leave you Truth or dare? Are you on fire? And if so, how do you know? And if not, do you burn to be? 'Cause I do, when I see you But you can't see me And you may be wandering Driveway to driveway drunk A ghost without a house to haunt A last of my feral friends I know you're lonely But don't waste your breath telling me That you want what I have No one believes you
"I relate to this one the most. It’s the most relevant to me. I think I did a good job saying what I wanted to say. I had the 'stay poor and die trying' line, which is just a rephrase from that 'get rich or die trying' thing. I have another old song called 'O, Evelyn,' which isn’t my daughter’s name, but it’s my song to her. So I started writing one for my son as like this young hell-raiser: 'Stay poor and die trying/Take the drugs I didn’t take/Lay the whores I didn’t lay.' Obviously, he shouldn’t do any of that stuff, but the song fleshed out from those lines."

@@sbmke there are a lot of lyric sites that put horse so I don't know if it's Mike Kinsella's funny way to switch the word up or if it is straight up wrong. I don't think the CD has a lyric booklet. I have the cd around here somewhere
B A Tim Kinsella was always playful with homonyms in Cap’n Jazz and early Joan of Arc but I’m pretty sure Mike is being quite literal here. Whores. It’s a bounce just short of rock bottom song
B A no worries either way. Assuming the lyric sites use some sort of voice recognition to transcribe. One of the weirder things I’ve seen is how they credit songwriters. On of the big sites says a bunch of Braid songs were written by Billy Joel. They most certainly were not. Hugs from boys for one
I'm still young and i got a soul of a sad dad
put it on my tombstone
This man is so far beyond underrated.
I grew up with him. He's an incredible person! Such a cool and chill guy. He is crazy talented.
Hit your late 30's and its start's to hit a little heavier. Gorgeous and painful in one shot.. So good.
Driveway to driveway drunk. Solid Superchunk nod for the oldsters

I'm a sad dad too.
I am 16 and this is deep.
You’re 20 now, how you doing, friend?
2 years and I'm still listening to this

Very pretty and poignant. I enjoyed the song and video a lot.

I can’t tell one of these songs from the other, Mike uses the same melody in every song
Man, Mike is alaive

american football - lp2 bonus track?
Beautiful looking video, but not really in line with the song at all
I agree
Bem paia o clipe!!!
Né! Mó música foda para esse clip meio merdinha...
Meio que a ideia de clipe é mostrar o cara fracassando e ele já é velho, normalmente skate é coisa de jovens. Acho que essa é a ideia
