"Midnight Confessions" is their best song and definitely needs to be next.
Absolutely
100% and they need to do some Pablo Cruise too!
Temptation Eyes and Bella Linda too!
Definitely.. Midnight Confessions always brings me back to my High School years falling in love with my best friends girl and unable to do anything but suffer through it! 😂😂
They haven’t done Midnight Confessions yet!!??
Very overlooked and underrated group.
Other great hits by them include:
"Temptation Eyes", "Bella Linda", "I'd Wait A Million Years", "Things I Should Have Said", "Midnight Confessions", "Where Were You When I Needed You"."Two Divided By Love" "The River Is Wide".
Great list!
All the above 🤘
In the video for "Bella Linda" we can see a young Creed Bratton (from the American version of "The Office") sporting a Fu Manchu mustache!
Don’t forget Let’s Live for Today
I would also like to add "Feelings", "Baby Hold On" and "Heaven Knows" to the list.
"Wait a Million Years" is a must checkout by the Grass Roots
Can't go wrong with the Grass Roots. Next "Midnight Confessions"
Such a great band with so many hits in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s!🎶 I would recommend “Midnight Confessions” and “Temptation Eyes” as your next Grass Roots reactions.
Me too! 😊
I had forgotten this one, thanks y’all! And PLEASE check out Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose sometime! “Treat Her Like a Lady” from 1971 is a good place to start - it has a similar tempo as this one…I’m sure y’all will like it! ♥️
I have suggested them many times as well..I grew up around them before becoming famous,, great & talented people.
Ooooh yeah, I remember that when I was a kid on vacation at Galveston Island, Tx. I heard that song so many times there and it brings back memories.
They had many great classics.
AND "Too Late to Turn Back Now"
@@happymethehappyone8300 Are they from Columbia SC ?
"Temptation Eyes" is one of my favorites from them.
YES!
They need to see the band perform… I know ‘performance videos’ can deliver poor audio, but most Grassroots performances on tv were done with original studio music.
The Grassroots were with Dick Clark on American Bandstand over 20 times!
My favorite of them.
Yes, that is their best tune
A band that transitioned extremely well from the 60's into the 70's. Many fantastic songs
They are actually more of a 60s band. Some other awesome tunes by them are Midnight Confessions, Temptation Eyes, Two Divided By Love, Lovin Thing, Where Were You When I Needed You
Between 1965 to 1975, it seemed like they constantly had a song on the air! They were a top 40 machine! Charting a total of 23 times. "Midnight Confessions" was their biggest hit. Among their charting singles, they achieved Top 10 three times, Top 20 six times and Top 40 14 times, and sold over 20 million records worldwide. I saw these guys in 1981 and it was such a treat!
My favorite song by them!! Love it! My generation had the BEST music. Brings back such memories!
Yeah, a particular girl of course! I think I was 12. She was gorgeous!
Creed from grassroots is also an actor and plays a fictional version of himself "Creed" on "The Office". He winked at my mom when she and I saw them in concert the summer of 1985. Fun memories !💖
I love how in the Office finale they mention that Creed was in the Grassroots! 🤣🤣🤣
Creed Bratton was long gone by the time this was recorded
Fun fact: Herb Alpert was also an executive, the "A" in A&M Records. Some of their top talent were the Tijuana Brass, Carpenters, Capt. and Tennile, Liza Minelli, Steelers Wheels, Cat Stevens, Joe Cocker, Carole King, the Police, the Go-Gos and lots more. So he had a hand in a lot of the songs you've listened to.
My son and I get to see Herb Alpert in concert next week. So excited!
@@musicgrl100 I have seen them quite a few times. Cool group.
Peter Frampton, Styx, Rita Coolidge, Cat Stevens, Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66 and Gino Vannelli are some others heavyweights. I met him at a NARM Convention ( an assembly of artists and label executives who showcase new albums and artists being released in the upcoming year). Great man!
Oh yea oh yea oh yea!!! This is my jam! 😊❤Don’t you just love our music!? 😊Great Stuff!
They had quite a few catchy hits back in the day but I always thought "Midnight Confessions" was one of their best
"Sooner Or Later" is my favorite Grass Roots song. I have three more great songs from them that I highly recommend you try. They are "Midnight Confessions", Two Divided By Love" and "Temptation Eyes".
"Wait a million years", "Temptation Eyes" and "Midnight Confessions" are 3 more to check out from this great group.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Two Divided by Love" and "Midnight Confessions"!!!! Great choice today!
edit: for Herb Alpert, recommend "Lollipops And Roses","A Taste Of Honey" or "Whipped Cream" !!!! They are short so do at least two at once!!
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass album 'Whipped Cream & Other Delights' is tremendous!!
Oh yeah! Midnight Confessions" is my favorite! It was their first hit under their change in style in 1968. Yes, the band is that old!
Midnight confessions..yes!!
I love Herb Alpert, pure genius.
Fun fact:
Herb Alpert is the only artist to hit number 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 both as a vocalist with "This Guy's In Love With You", 1968 and as an instrumentalist with "Rise", 1979.
Midnight Confessions is my fav! But I love all the Grass Roots!
My favorite!!;
My husband’s band opened for Grass Roots in 1969. You can’t go wrong playing Grass Roots songs.
PLEASE go back to them for this MUST HEAR BANGER,, The Romantics "What I Like About You" (Official Music Video)
You always know it’s gonna be a good song! They work together so well! Love the Grassroots ❤❤
One of the band members, Creed Bratton, was an early member who ended up quitting the group in 1969 because their record company was reluctant to have them wrote songs. He eventually went into acting and was one of the co-stars of "The Office"
Yes, Creed had a very interesting career (Google him). Many people know him as Creed ( he used his real name for the character ) from "The Office" T.V. show ( American version ) and was the original guitarist for Grassroots. Don't think he was with them on this song though.
@@johnsilva9139no he wasn’t haha, I believe he was in the band from 67-69
The era that comes to mind for horns is the Big Band Era of the '40s....Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Harry James, et al played some great music....
I hope you get to hear "Temptation Eyes", which is probably my favorite of theirs. For horns in the bands more than the 70s, you'd have to go back to Swing in the 1940s.
Herb Alpert "This Guy's In Love With You"..A MUST HEAR Classic!!
This was a big hit when my mom died. Took me right back. You love horns, and I've suggested this before so will again. TOWER OF POWER and the great song SO VERY HARD TO GO. It was a very big hit (for good reason) in I think was '73. You won't be disappointed.
Temptation Eyes!!!!!
The Grass Roots started out as a folk band led by P.F. Sloan called The Grassroots (one word). After a couple of years, he was disappointed with the record company constantly pushing them toward hits and left. In 1968, producer/songwriter Steve Barri was given A&R control and was commanded to change the band's musical direction. The heavily R&B-flavored "Midnight Confessions" was the first result of the new musical direction, and it became a #1 record, and the hits came until 1972. And, if you like "Sooner Or Later", you'll also love "Temptation Eyes" and, i'm gonna keep mentioning it..."Midnight Confessions"! One more thing: Real Gone Music released a fantastic singles collection almost a decade ago. It's a highly recommended buy. It's also on the streaming platforms for those who prefer to stream or download music.
Sloan and Barri WERE the Grassroots.....Lou Adler of Dunhill Records wouldn't let them play live or tour and made them go out and find a band that could be the Grassroots....PF Sloan found a band from San Fran called the Bedouins with a lead singer named Willie Fulton....they didn't last long and went back home....then they found an LA group called the 13th Floor to be the GR but one guy was drafted and Rob Grill replaced him....most songs that are credited to Sloan and Barri were actually written by PF Sloan alone...but because he was a teenager Dunhill made him share writing credit with Steve Barri.....
Yes. After Lou Adler sold his Dunhill label to ABC Records, Jay Lasker, who was co-owner of Dunhill, was made president of the combined ABC/Dunhill label, and handed A&R duties to Steve Barri. That's when the band changed their sound.@@cwby2854
Yeah, this couldn't possibly be more different than the hippy Era " let's live for today". Not as drastic as how Dr Hook changed in the late 70s, but def a curveball
Yeah, P.F. Sloan used the Grassroots name to catapult his career, went to the Love Generation, left, then Steve Barri took it to horn-influenced R&B pop, which gave them the most success.@@dawnpatrol700
You must love EWF!! TRY Earth, wind and fire. Maybe September or Shining Star!! Enjoy!! ❤
Rob Grill, my number 1 pre-teen crush, love all their music so much. Rob's solo song Rock Sugar (backed by Fleetwood Mac members) is also an unknown gem. RIP Rob
Some other Grass Roots music: Midnight Confessions, Temptation Eyes, Heaven Knows.
Love the Grass Roots. Try the Buckinghams too. Kind of a Drag, Don’t You Care two great songs
Amber for horns, you need to hear "In the mood" by Glenn Miller Orchestra, black and white movie cut.
Fans of the Office (American version) likely know that Creed Bratton who used his real name in the series was in this band.
I love midnight confessions or Temptation eyes. Both great songs.
I can say that I am Shook....that you finally got back to the Grassroots. 😅 One of my faves growing up. Collected many of their 45's . Great songs including their biggest hit "Midnight Confessions", "I'd Wait A Million Years" and "Temptation Eyes". Looking for some horn songs, how about Canada's version of Chicago , Lighthouse? They had a few good songs like "One Fine Morning" & "Sunny Days". Another strong horn group is Blood, Swet & Tears with songs like "Spinning Wheels" & "And When I Die". Thanks. 😎
Amber/Jay, many thanks for this reaction! such a beloved part of my childhood🎶🎵🎼💞
Rob Grill was the lead singer. I had a chance to see them live back in the early 80s while they were on a reunion tour
I got to see them twice in concert back in 1986
They were on tour with the Monkees and Herman’s Hermits and Gary Puckett and The Union Gap!!
What an amazing lineup!!!!!!
Hey here’s a new group to check out!?
Gary Puckett and the Union Gap , Gary has a great voice!!
Do : Lady Will Power !!
The Grass Roots were a little more of a 60s group than a 70s group though they had success in both decades. They had a load of hits, so for others you need to check out "Bella Linda", "Midnight Confessions", "Temptation Eyes", "Two Divided By Love", and "Where Were You When I Needed You".
The instumentals you're hearing on this song are by the great group of studio musicians known as "The Wrecking Crew" who have played on so many of the songs you've heard. More than you can imagine. I sent you a DVD about them around a year ago that I hope you'll take the time to check out one of these days.
The Grassroots was One of our Favs back in the day! Great Choice, You Guys..... They had several other Big Hits, in addition to one you've Reacted to. Great Reaction, You Guys! :)
You have to do their song Midnight Confessions. It was their biggest song
Midnight confession has your bass and is a great song!!!!
One of my favorite songs from back in the day… I can remember when I first heard it on the radio On my way to the beach❤
really like the variety you react to- pleasant and charming to watch you both, appreciate the energy you both bring.
Grass Roots made some hella catchy tunes! ♥
I got this 45 with a new record player on my 12th birthday...thanks for the memories!
Love this band. One of my favorite concerts was seeing them in a small venue in Cripple Creek 20 years ago or so. Some other favorites of mine by them: "Temptation Eyes", "Midnight Confessions", Two Divided by Love", "I'd Wait a Million Years" and "The River is Wide".
You should listen to A River is Wide by the Grass Roots. I love the Grass Roots. I was born in 1964 so, I have known this group for years. My mother had my albums of the Grass Roots.
Awesome band...great tunes! Most of their stuff was the very late 60's..at least a solid dozen top 10 hits!
My all-time favorite band. So underrated but such a great band!! Midnight Confessions is amazing and Glory Bound is my favorite. More please!!❤
Good band that produced some fun songs from the late 60's-70's. Ther Midnight Confessions was another good song.
Hi guy's, I've been listening to The Grassroots since they come out in the summer of '67 with the song "Let's Live For Today." I've owned most of their LP's
back in the day so I'd like to pass along a complete list of their best songs: 1) Things I Should Have Said 2) Wake Up Wake 3) Tip Of My Tongue
4) Beatin' Round The Bush 5) Depressed Feeling 6) Where Were You When I Needed You 7) No Exit 8) A Melody For You 9) Feelings 10) Wait A Million Years
11) Midnight Confessions (Great song!) 12) Bella Linda (Great song!) 13) Heaven Knows 14) Temptation Eyes. Enjoy!
One of my faves. Man, the 70's were great.
Midnight Confessions live on midnight special is their best 👍
Soooo many MUST HEAR classics by them
Do their "Midnight Confessions" you won't forget that one.
Released in May 1971...got to #9 on the charts...a CLASSIC!
This group had 14 hit singles from 1967 to '72. For six years, there was always a Grass Roots song climbing the charts. Three made the Top 10 and six the Top 20. Similar to Three Dog Night, which had a similar streak in about the same years. Personal favorites are Temptation Eyes and Sooner or Later.
AMBER&JORDAN
(jay)
you'll love
"SAVE TONIGHT"
eagle eye cherry
AND
"buffalo stance" by
1980s singer
NENEH CHERRY
❤❤
I love this band. Very popular back in the day. So thank you for playing it.
ALSO please check out Melissa Manchester. So underrated. Very powerful voice. Two to check out are MIDNIGHT BLUE and DON'T CRY OUT LOUD. You will NOT be disappointed
This is a great uptempo joyful song. Can't not chair dance to this one. So glad you did this one. 👍
🖤PLEASE React to The Darkness (official videos) - 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' -'Love is Only a Feeling' -'Is It Just Me?' - Lead singer Justin Hawkins has fantastic falsetto voice & his brother Dan Hawkins can shred guitar! -Thanks!!!
Another legend that's slipped through the cracks is Bruce Springsteen: Some gems: "Rosalita" "Badlands" "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" "Ramrod" "I'm a Rocker" "Cadillac Ranch"
Rosalita MUST be the live version! 😊
Hey Jay and Amber!!! Amber is absolutely right!! The 70's were the decade of the horn bands. The 80's were the decade for a lot of keyboards and electronic sounds.
Herb Alpert - Diamonds featuring Janet Jackson…you deserve this gem.
Amber,of course there is a decade that incorporated horns more, the Big Band Era,and also old time jazz like Louis Armstrong!40's for sure! Two fantastic examples of a horn is Louis Armstrong's A Kiss to Build A Dream On,( killer trumpet solo!),and Glenn Miller Orchestra's instrumental called,In The Mood!🎙🎺🎷🎶
You absolutely need to check out their song ‘Midnight Confessions.’
An R&B Classic,, The Blackbyrds "Walking In Rhythm"
Two horns-heavy bands that you've yet to hear: Lighthouse--the Canadian version of Chicago; and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Lighthouse songs to get you started: "One Fine Morning" and "Pretty Lady"; Southside Johnny songs to get started: "I Played the Fool" and "Talk to Me"
Ditto to Lighthouse! - I've suggested a few times, hopefully they will get around to them.
Temptation Eyes is my favorite. It really shows off Rob Grill's amazing voice.
Hey you two - you've only done this group ONE TIME - no, wait, you have never reacted to them, no matter how creative and brilliant they are! Please consider reacting to Walk Off The Earth and their song "Hello", featuring Myles and Isaac!!
Nice sound, sounds like seventies to me-really catchy. Reminds me of White Plains and 'My Baby Loves Love'-Colin Ward
Decade for horns? 1940’s Big Band Era. Mostly instrumental but Sinatra sang with them as did other vocalists.
🌻🏵🌼Please react to The Foundations -Build Me Up Buttercup -Thanks!!!
Need more KC and the Sunshine Band soon❤❤❤❤
Great group! Temptation Eyes, Midnight Confessions, Wait a Million Years, The River Is Wide, Two Divided By Love, Out Of This World, and I'm Living For You Girl are all great songs of theirs.
Amber, since you'll check out anything from the seventies. Check out Sweets song Set Me Free. Jay will dig it too! You guys rock by the way!
Temptation Eyes.
Louis Armstrong played the trumpet going back to the 40s where they used horn sections like Tommy Dorsey in the Big Band Era
To try to answer your question, Amber, while I have not done a deep dive into the subject my (failing) memory and love of music tells me you are almost surely correct, that the 70's were the golden age of horns in rock music! To give you a treat to test out the theory may I suggest the song "Hi-De-Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears, a song featuring an organ, grand piano, horns galore, a harmonica solo, a killer bass line and a church gospel choir kicking in towards the end! Give it a try - you'll be glad you did!!
Love the grassroots! Seemed like they always had a new hit playin in the top forty rotation.
I think you'd like Hamilton, Joe frank and Reynolds "Don't Pull Your Love"
I loved the Grassroots in the early 70s, and when their vehicle stalled in the small city of Gallup NM (where I'm from),they needed quick money, and the priest from Sacred heart of Cathedral let them have a concert in the Sacred Heart Cathedral highschool gym. I was eleven years old and that was my first concert 😊 I became a big fan. ♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
LOVED this song!! Thank Ya'll for the REACTIONS!! ❤
Creed Bratton (born William Charles Schneider, February 8, 1943) is an American actor, singer and musician. A former member of the rock band the Grass Roots, he is best known for playing a fictionalized version of himself on the NBC sitcom The Office, which earned him five nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
The Grassroots is such an a good band with so many great songs. So glad you guys got to check them out again.
The Grassroots was my first concert! I saw them in Norfolk, Virginia in about 1980 after I was stationed on my first ship. I loved it!
Great reaction JAMBER (new nickname for you)🤪🤪🤪🤡🤡
J & A, you would love Spiral Staircase - "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" (from the 60's)
Always loved them since I was a young kid!! Sooo many incredible songs!!
Feelings by The Grass Roots has a great psychedelic sound. You’ll love it!
Now do some Gary Puckett and the Union Gap....!!!!
How about doing some Bonnie Raitt from the 70's? "Love Me Like A Man"
I think you're a decade off. This was from the 60s! Great band!
The Grass Roots- "Midnight Confessions"- Get It Next...
I made out with Rob and my cousin made out with Ricky. Oh such good times. They were awesome. ❤❤❤
Temptation Eyes and Midnight Confessions ...and the list goes on...
