  • This 1988 Priestman VC 20 has a variable counterweight which negates the need for one very large counterweight in a fixed position.

Thank you Love the counter Wt. Set up. Such a work of art as far as long reach. That dipper pull cable is so sweet set up for pull in. Such a clean machine.

Neat machine! I have never seen one before now. I watched before I read the description and I honestly couldn't tell if it was a new machine or an old restored one. It has design cues that make it look both modern and old at the same time. A transition piece is really what it is. Nice restoration there.

I believe there was once a smaller VC 8 (12 tonne) think the 8, 15, 20 is metres from centre of slew

thats pretty much a dragline, the counter weight makes the arm pull, i dont think its primary function is just a counter weight, i think it takes the place of a hydraulic ram....

I remember PRIESTMAN excavators like this in the late 1980's with a RED and White paint colors, however I don't know if they sold out but Northwest Equipment Engineering sold out to Terex after it's owner died around 1990.

    • @rp1645

Thank you for information on Northwest. I Remember a big Contractor in my area. Had a Big BE Excavator. They rigged it up with Hydraulic bucket. It was a monster machine.
( Cable) I still see the poor ( Koehring 1266) all separated in there Equipment bone yard. Myself bought a 1978 Dynahoe-190 for play toy, that's all I could afford and keep from era gone by. I miss those old neat looking machine's. At least from watching U-Tube. There are guys out finding older CABLE Rigs and restoration them.
Would like to see some more of the 60s &70s
Era Hydraulic excavator being rebuild for show and tell. Loved them when there where like multi levers or foot pedal in cab. A guy had to know what he was doing. Swing was never left or Right on Joy Stick.

@@rp1645 B E was BUCYRUS-ERIE, I do remember CATERPILLAR bought out BUCYRUS-ERIE which was BUCYRUS INTERNATIONAL because BUCYRUS strictly made the cable rope mining shovels and Rotary Blast Crawler Drills, the acquisition probably was about 2005 to 2008 somewhere in there, all the former BUCYRUS shovels have the CAT name now. I don't know what happened to KOEHRING after 1988. I was looking for also BANTAM at that time too.

In 1986 ( Koehring) was Purchased by ( Northwest Engineering Company) and two year later Merged into ( TEREX) organization
My quote is from ( Keith Haddock) from the great History book. The Earthmover Encyclopedia. In 1993 ( Koehring) withdraw from Excavator Market. ( Northwest) faced dwindling Sales and Discontinued it's Hydraulic machine in 1983. ( Schield. Bantam) became a Division of ( Koehring Company) in 1963 but the Excavators continue as ( Schield. Bantam) in production at the ( Waverly plant) until 1983
Then the remaining products were sold under the ( Koehring) name. In 1988 ( Koehring) became a Division of ( TEREX Corporation)
After being purchased by ( Northwest Engineering) two years earlier. This is just "quotes" out of that great Encyclopedia. strongly urge you to get the book, it will answer a lot of your questions. You are just like me. I love to see who brought who. Were did the Excavator get bought up by. The interesting thing to me like you said the BE machine in open mines just got a ( Yellow) Paint job. I like ( CAT) stocks. They are giving me a profit on Return. I told my investment person, wanted Retirement funds in a big Manufacturing Company of Heavy Equipment that are made in America. I am a NERD about all Heavy Equipment. I am so glad for U-Tube to bring all these videos to me to watch. I can "quote" you more on the ( Priesman) they used them to fight OIL fires in (Kuwait) during ( Operation Desert Storm) they are still available today from ( RB Cranes Ltd) at Redford England. Again this is "quote" from book.

@@rp1645 Yes I am glad that I have operated CATERPILLAR equipment in construction and mining fields, it seems like there is a lot of heavy equipment history out there, but it ashamed to see 👀 older equipment to be scrapped and not have any paint or other maintenance, some equipment cost too much just to be transported into smaller pieces especially for today.

The VC machines was the best LR excavators: big bucket, long reach, the VC counterweigh idea:
the current LR excavaotrs , Japaneses projects , are good only for polish the grass from rivers sides.
Unfortunatly, the VC , are finish
    Stupid RB International managements!
