Excellent Simon Sinek, as expressive, as right as always. Excellent!! Leaders, responsible for those in charge. it's a beautiful job, it's about the people.
I'm an old retired middle level manager, and we never heard this type of motivational speeches before about how to manage. Every time Simon opens his mouth I am amazed, because he speaks to Perspective and Empathy and the need for Altruistic leaders as a way for businesses to sustain their forward movement and to treat their most important assets, their employees, as if they matter. If you can please pass this one to everyone on your mailing list. Businesses need to hear this more than they need profits in the short term.
That is why I took my old self out of retirement to join the Conscious Capitalism Movement. I was the oldest person in the first class of consultants, and now am on fire to help bring humanity to business. Heck, Michaelangelo was 71 when he became the architect and engineer for St. Peter's. I can help the movement. @rumplestiltskin Come out and work with us.
Plucked from my brain and put into an eloquent and inspiring and just enough in your face teaching ... love everything about this. Thank You for spreading the message :)
Good to revisit this guy's episode which I saw when it came out. We all need a good reminder on this one vital human quality that is hard to retain without reminding yourself from time to time.
Agree. People in this world need more empathy, mercy and compassion and forgiveness. And Love one another + Start within your family and spread out to the world.
Wow. It is so refreshing to hear the words empathy, long term, no winning and losing, mass layoffs. I thought we have lost them all. Thanks Simon you just stirred every soul. Love you
One of the best speech I've ever heard. I made my Bachelor degree's thesis based on Emotional Intelligence, and I wish I could watch this video to make everything easier.
Emotional intelligence is a made-up term. There have been a lot of papers written about it however it amounts to nothing more than "agreeableness" the term emotional intelligence was coined by some journalist. What does it mean anyway? That I can infer what you're thinking or feeling. Maybe I know exactly what you're thinking and feeling and just don't give two shits. How do you differentiate emotional intelligence from empathy or sympathy? By the way it turns out that people who lack agreeableness and are disagreeable are the ones that succeed in the workplace. Not the other way around. Don't feed into the hype. I know they teach this in schools but schools are often wrong this is one case of many. I do hope you got your bachelor's degree and a good score on your thesis. I wish you well. Life itself is a classroom you can learn everywhere.
I don't like both adjectives. Agreeable and disagreeable. Let's rather use full sentences and say that emotionally intelligent people agree when they agree, disagree when they disagree. That's it. You don't have to view one as negative and the other one as positive. Feelings aren't fixated.
This is a brilliant talk. We focus so often on the "ideal" result in business, on an extremely irrational timetable, that we forget that both time and, _more importantly_, emotionally invested *people* lay the foundation for the ideal. A slow quarter or year doesn't spell permanent loss for shareholders. The greatest businesses that exist today *ALL* started before they IPOed. Passion drives success and nothing is less passion-motivating than rigid performance metrics, disconnected or metric-based management, or a cultural fear of failure.
I'm not a businessman. I'm a teacher, but I believe what he said doesn't apply to only business. I want to make an environment where my students feel comfortable and willing to find their potentials. And this is what my principal should watch. When everything goes well, she doesn't appreciate our efforts, but she only criticizes us when something bad happens.
Hey my heart goes out to your response here. I hope this message finds you well but I am a motivational speaker and some of the issues that you mentioned here is what I help solve with students, teachers, and administration. I have had the privelege to travel the country living out this purpose. Would you mind hopping offline and speaking more in depth about some of these issues on a deeper level?
For me this was all common sense. So from his message what I get which is congruent with my own perspective.... Society just lacks compassion and empathy so this message of Simon's is news for them!
i thought it was common sense until i left school and applied for a job.. then i thought "this is normal - not to be empathetic" but to be "the best no matter what" and then i found great people like Simon who remind me that i wasn't wrong all along.
@@gsftb Well, what is "right" or "wrong" exactly? I think it's up to each and everyone to decide at the end of the day. One of the most important characteristics you can obtain is integrity, honesty, and dignity. Those 3 traits alone are sufficient to make you a decent and respectable human being. Other than that, don't get caught up in "wrongs" or "rights" in everyday life, meaning don't be so judgemental. See things as they are instead, situations that play out, and how you want to deal with them.
Wow... I have said these things about parenting and management vs leadership to my friends so many times ... It is amazing to hear someone else articulate the same ideas. I'm so glad to know that people are listening to Simon Sinek, because it's just common sense.
Hi Simon Sinek, I've just [Oct '24] listened to a millennial's fast paced and tense delivery of a speech, who stated multiple times he was a university lecturer. His subject matter focused on effective team culture is based on habits and empathy. However, though he proved a lot of sharp intellect with witty humor, I ended up feeling that he had absorbed your content, but does not demonstrate [in the video], to live by the principles which you teach. I believe, a stage presentation is marked as much by the under current message within the aura of a person as much as what emanates out from it. Keep up the great work....
Simon thrills me every time. I'm sending this to the CEO of my company. What he's saying is a no-brainer to a deep thinker. But since we are mostly shallow thinkers, this piece of wisdom will constantly be overlooked in our organizations.
I am doing it because the humanity in me simply will not allow me to keep quiet, when you are experiencing everything as a part of yourself,my little finger is rotting, attending to it is just natural to me,that s all, not because I am service oriented,no, I am not service oriented.
This speech is amazing. I'm actually reading a book on empathy and also writing an essay on it. This speech will help me with my thesis that will look something like this: Empathy is overlooked in today's society and needs to be understood so today's leaders can help build better future leaders.
Kevin Flanagan do you want to share your essay on empathy , I would want to read . Also if you could share books or material you have read on the topic. Thanks in advance. Cheers
So true. It’s far less about homogenising staff and more about recognising, utilising then celebrating people’s individual strengths and achievements. Sadly, too many directors focus on humiliating staff in order to make themselves feel important - not conducive to a healthy environment. When things go wrong we’re supposed to focus on areas of improvement rather than berating staff for their mistakes.
A must watch video for all, particularly young managers and leaders. I feel it is important to get the perspective right from the beginning of one's career.
This is a beautiful and vivid introduction to Empathy, for people who lack empathy, and want to learn to be more effective leaders. I think it is important to talk about the 'shadow side' of empathy. It is possible to experience other people's feelings so vividly, that you 'take on' and even get totally lost in them. Unconsciously, I believe this is why our general culture has numbed out empathy - people are afraid of each other. For those of us who are waking up increasingly subtle and powerful empathic awareness, this is a very real and concerns. I believe people are avoiding being more empathic, not just because we haven't been taught how to empathize, but because we haven't practiced how to empathizer AND THEN LET GO and stay centered within YOU. For me, Compassion is the element that breaks through the confusion. Genuine compassion is never patronizing. Yet compassion also creates healthy distance - it helps us remember who's feelings these are originally in a way that takes the fear out of being close to suffering.
