"V" theme for me very much feels like a retelling of the main plot. The slow building of hatred and anxiety are Johnny awakening in a world that he hates and V reaching for the starts and failing. The midpoint is them colliding, being forced to become one. And after the beat its the grand ode of violence that they have to become to get through Act 2 and 3 and reach that "World" graffiti on the balcony. All the tarot Graffiti by the way are also fully symbolic and connected to place and circumstances they are found in. I've also been digging through OST in last 2 months, and honestly all of it is incredible. Cyberpunk has meant so much to me since launch and I was so happy to see this pop up! I would definitely recommend either listening to ‘the rebel path’ ‘Kerry’s boat song’ or ‘Never fade away’
I remember when I first got my hands on the game after waiting 12 years for it. It was surreal booting up the main menu and being greeted with this and nothing but a black title screen. The smash kick at the very beginning fading into the distance immediately made me think of something like the sirens on distant police cars, or like a warning siren that I was entering a dangerous world. Even though there was nothing obvious going on on the screen, somehow it said everything, and I remember sitting there listening to the theme and taking in the moment for like a solid 10 minutes before starting the game. I couldn't believe I was finally playing it.
I like how the song becomes more intense as it goes on. Really captures V's change as a person and the alarm kinda symbolises the fact that V is running out of time really emphasizing the fact that it's V's theme specifically.
One thing that I felt at around the 1:57 mark with the alarm and all the other sounds progressively building up is that the music tells me that this all is approaching. It's all the feelings you describe but it is approaching us as players. The horror of the setting, the disturbance, the alram, the experience we are about to get is approaching. Really well composed track and very well analysed by you!
this song really just feels like it embodies the atmosphere of the game so well, like it's so tense and aggressive and definitely carries the vibe of "you are NOT safe" that night city overall gives off. the beginning has a pretty slow build and i do really like how,, distorted? and electronic everything is but you can still kind of make out what it is in the background like the cello/strings and the really gritty sounding guitar. and when the alarm/sirens kick in, it really gives you the feeling of being a dangerous mercenary in an even more dangerous city where chaos and death is kind of everywhere despite the sort of shiny veneer on the surface (which i feel like the opening synth-y electronics carry across well, it's somber but really ominous too.) i also really like how the guitar kicks in and, to me, kinda symbolizes how johnny silverhand just crashes into v's life and changes the trajectory of their story. the way all the sounds feel kind of disjointed at times before combining into this loud, brash almost orchestra is a really nice touch since i feel like it calls back to how johnny and v combine and work as one unit as the story progresses. all this to say, i just really f*ckin love cyberpunk's audio storytelling lol.
I love how well the soundtrack sells that feeling of desperation at nearly every turn. But I also love how this track in particular has an almost mocking quality to it - like it's a personification of Night City that's toying with you before it chews you up, and spits you out. It's a danse macabre for the post-modern age.
I am SO glad to see you covering music from this game. It's meant so much to me since it launched, and having someone go over the music and put into words what makes it HIT so damn HARD is absolutely incredible!! I would love to see you talk about the Tyger Claws combat theme, 'Wushu Dolls', it's my favorite encounter music and I'm not entirely sure why- But I understand if looping combat music isn't exactly your thing, haha.
I remember I loaded the game and arrive to the main menu the song just hyped me up because I just paid attention to how cool it was. The second time I sat to listen it actually gave me chills. And this guy just described completly why.
YES !! the musical scores in this game are amazing - marcin is my lord and saviour. cdpr knew what they were doing, and even the music for each radio station in general slaps so hard
Very thankful for the added captions! UA-cam still has trouble with automatically transcribing them. I played this game very very soon after release and despite the issues it had i enjoyed the story very much, the music of the game is just SO kickass! Re-listening to it now It makes me feel like im in a fight for my life haha. The game was just so rich with style and Im so happy it translated well into the soundtrack as well! Seeing the ttrpg i loved so much be given it's deserved attention through other artistic mediums warms my heart :)
I immediately noticed how the beginning of this track made the hair in the back of my neck stand up... it immediately puts you on edge, making you realize that you're entering a dystopia which require you to ALWAYS watch your back because someone will kill you if you're not alert at all time.
Cyberpunk is the best game ever, you cant change my mind. The music, the story telling, the immersion, the character archs. Perfection. (Idgaf that it was buggy on release)
Not only is this the main theme, but isn't this also called V's Theme? Its so good and it not actually heard anywhere else in the game, I wish they played this during the secret ending. It's so angry and it perfectly fits the timer running out as Johnny takes over and his theme slowly starts take over V's theme
Would tie in so well thematically. It's the first song you hear when booting up the game, playing it during the climax of the secret ending would make so much sense
I believe "You Shall Never Have to Forgive Me Again" really merits a whole video tbh, it's REALLY insane (specially when you see the scene associated with it in game haha)
@1:28 That anger isn't just Night City, it's the Black Wall! There is a brief mention of the Black Wall in The VooDoo Boys quest. Not just Alt Cunningham's discussion, but there is also a shard you can find and read during that quest. No spoilers. And it dives into the lore of the Black Wall and how it came into existence. I thought to myself, "This is amazing stuff, this wall is a potential deadly threat to everyone in CP2077. I wonder where they will go with this?" Turns out that the DLC will expend into that lore.
Finished my first play of the game few days ago, and what a story. All the musics in the game make it just amazing. The first time I downloaded the game when it came out, it was so buggy that I didn’t even bothered playing it, but I kept it in case it became better in the future … and hell yeah it did ! What a game
lol, its funny, after hundreds of hours in game, this music feels somehow welcoming, announcing that you've arrived to the party, and everybody's armed
Thanks man this game is one of my favorites of all time and actually didn't expect you to react to CP2077 OST .There is another beautiful OST that is quite different with this and the name is "Outsiders no more" I think you will enjoy reacting to it.
One of the things I feel a lot in this soundtrack is the influence of Paul Leonard Morgan. I first heard his music in Dredd, another masterpiece of the dystopian cyberpunk genre, and he uses a lot of incredibly hard and harsh digital soundscapes in that soundtrack, similar to what we hear in 2077. If you know the work he did on that movie, knowing CDPR brought him in to help produce the music makes it immediately clear that his hand is definitely weighing the scales of this soundtrack, as it were.
I'm on my second playthrough and it's exactly what I expected from the game the moment I saw the 40 mins gameplay video at E3 (minus the bugs and oh so many missing features). I absolutely love the atmosphere and man the music takes things to another level
3:40 honestly my favourite part of this whole thing is V’s motif (the strings that come in full force here) comes more and more into frame as time goes on, culminating at this point. Signifies V’s story as a whole, starting as a low rank merc and making their way into the ranks of legend in a matter of weeks. Also foreshadows the culmination of their journey coming fast and ending just as quick. This motif is isolated in Mikoshi, the location of choice in most paths you take, albeit slower and more sinister. Working that into the main theme of the game is masterfully done and just another reason this game and soundtrack deserves it’s recognition for peak fiction
I’ve avoided hearing anything from the soundtrack of Cyberpunk, till now. I’ve been loosely following the game since launch, and for about a year I’ve been really debating playing it.
The "Scavengers" piece is short but guttural, would be curious to hear your thoughts thereon! Genuinely love the game. Picked it up on sale a few months after release before the real fixes came in, and I gotta say that revisiting the game now only heightens my enjoyment of it. Glad for Edgerunners bringing more people into the fold- it's a great anime so far (I'm only on the fourth episode at the moment) and I'm hoping this resurgence might allow for more effort to be put into expanding this IP.
I'd absolutely love to see more cyberpunk videos! the soundtrack has soooo much character and diversity, its truly amazing! And once again amazing video Marco
I love this track, I've actually just sat at the title screen to let it play sometimes. Additionally, I imagine you've heard "Been good to know ya?" (If you played the game, which is sounds like you have, then you'd definitely recognize it. Thoughts? worthy of covering it? I dunno, that one always forces me to stop and think, usually to review everything that led me to where I am and just soak everything in.
this music encapsulates the cyberpunk 2077 story, if you played the game think about what happened in the story from start to end then listen to this music, of course, its all IMO.
That's actually a great reviewing of the soundtrack, because once in a while is someone who understand both music and the game. I just wanna add a note: in a simple way, this intro is a kind an overture. It introduces, if not the actual music of the game (the themes themselves), at least the register/style of differents theme of the game. You exactly read the beginning, that's Nightcity, the technology... the "bum, bum, bum" is the Tapeworm/Soulkiller/Mikoshi... that's just a vector for the entrance of Johnny: the disptruptive eletric guitar. And yes, it's organic vs inogranic, but also organic trough inorganic. And, YES, it's impressive that is the same composer of the Witcher.
Considering the name of the theme itself is just called "V", you can also consider it the eponymous main character's theme, especially when all those themes of what Night City is are almost embodied by what V was, is, and will be in the game. I mean, a chip inside your head making a foreign artificial personality take over you is terrifying enough for you to try to fight for your life, dying trying to, plainly abandoning or simply go mad from it. And the idea of fighting, "upgrading", rinse and repeat to survive especially fits this theme well in an outside point of view, since V has become this killing machine(emphasis on machine) just to live on and and stay themself, or at least die without the other person inside them "becoming V". That idea is explored further(a more personal perspective there imo) with Never Fade Away, one of the songs from Samurai(the in game band, IRL the band Refused made it) also remixed for the ending credits, so I'll suggest listening to both versions of it.
Damn I appreciate these videos even more all this time after. I always thought Cyberpunk was one of the coolest settings and the greatest story telling. The technical criticisms were deserved when the game came out but man the writing and music CDPR put out is still to this day, out matched.
Another song you should consider giving a listen is "Let You Down" by Dawid Podsiadło, its a beautiful piece with a great short story / Animation behind it that doesn't really require any knowledge of the show to enjoy it. There's other songs in the Edgerunner show that are great but this one stands out to me because of the powerful vocals and the power of the soul behind the voice. Glad you are giving Cyberpunk songs a listen as there is a lot of underrated songs in the OST and the Edgerunners show really takes the cake on giving some phenomenal songs.
I have felt elated to notice that I agree with your opinion about the things that this brief but very powerful soundtrack transmits. You are not in a natural place, nobody is on your side, people have lost their heads with technology, you always have to be tense and alert... and prepared for anything because anything is possible.
I never really liked this track in the menu because it felt sort of uncomfortable, but now I see it as kind of perfect for displaying the desperation of a cyberpunk world
You should really check out the title theme and the main menu select theme from Metroid Prime. I love how they are Epic mysterious uplifting sci-fi tracks while simultaneously being eerie and creepy. The main title theme for the first Metroid Prime gives me chills every time I listen to it. Also they're pretty short so I highly recommend you also do the Metroid Prime 2 and 3 main menu themes as well
I don't know what the game was like when it first came out but as someone who started a play through for the first time recently, I've thoroughly enjoyed it. From what I understand they worked really hard the past year or two to try and correct a lot of the problems the game had despite all the losses.
Hey, Marco! What do you feel about that? Cyberpunk 2077 main theme always gives me a feeling of been eaten alive, as if u are running from a hive of some robot bees, your time is limited and it doesn't matter where or how far you try to run away. Because this world has it's own pace, and the only thing you can do is to show it that you can run against it.
I feel a little shifty asking, but there's a specific game that I rarely see content of, and it's Remnant: From the Ashes. The main theme of that game is hauntingly beautiful, and I feel like you'd get a kick out of it even if it doesn't wind up in a video. Good game, too.
There's a lot of really good mods on PC that add a lot of the stuff from Edge Runners to the game including making the cybernetics function more like the series
There's one of the best OST that's Called Johnny's Grave/Silverhand Construct Theme. It's one of the best OST that really captures Johnny Silverhand regrets
Been Good to Know Ya is one of the best and at the same time one of the most depressing song that I've listened in this game, I'd love to see your reaction!
I'd also like to point out that to me, the cello in the middle of all that electronic beat dropping is V holding on to their lifeline, the last bit of their humanity, their soul, which is what Arasaka's Relic is threatening
Isometric Air just hits a certain wavelength that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of the world of Cyberpunk maybe it’s false hope or sweet lies or maybe a bitter sweet feeling whatever it is Isometric Air is it
Little known fact is the CP2077 score is made up of 3 composer's works. Paul Leonard-Morgan, Marcin Przybylowicz and P.T. Adamczyk. Paul Leonard-Morgan also did the "Dredd" film score and that is one of my favorite film scores if you like that industrial orchestral riot in the chaos sound.
I've never heard somebody explain music's meaning, symbolism and etc SO well. I "over-analyze" themed music as well and I'm so happy I came across someone like minded
I can't help but comment this on every CP2077 music video I see. I just love how the bom bom bom bom bom bom bom from V's theme is used in the ending music, Rite of Passage I think. Just... ecstatic. It says "sorry V, there won't be an ending you can look forward to".
my favorite song is "outsider no more." it is bleak, and the melody's quiet meandering betrays the reality of the situation. the song plays whenever V is facing something emotionally devastating, or is being traumatized. making an impossible decision. outsider no more. you finally know the truth. juxtaposed is its usage when V becomes part of a community. like the duality of the world V has to navigate, it is hauntingly beautiful, but a reminder of everything it costs.
Cyberpunk 2077 easily became my favorite game of all time almost instantly when I played it. I haven't changed my favorite game since Legend of Dragoon(which it's an old game but I'd love to see you react to that music and see how well it holds up)
Only got around to playing it again since launch now with the DLC - whatever about what state it released in, it's 100% a masterpiece now. I struggle to think of anything that comes close or even comes close to coming close.
When I hear this theme, I imagine the build up is V waking up and realizing he’s on a clock, after that, it’s him crawling back onto his feet guns blazing just trying to get to whatever solution he’s got left in the holster, a last ditch charge to the finish line of life
been loving my playthrough on PC. Very much.
(spoiler alert: I really adore this game despite the bugs and glitches.)

For me too, absolutely true. My most played game of all time and still loving it!
Not only is this the main theme, but isn't this also called V's Theme? Its so good and it not actually heard anywhere else in the game, I wish they played this during the secret ending. It's so angry and it perfectly fits the timer running out as Johnny takes over and his theme slowly starts take over V's theme
It is called that yup!
Whenever I boot up the game I let the main theme play a full loop at least once. It's really epic and gets you pumped.
2:40 in my head is when V gets shot and then the song is everything after that pivot point in his/her life.
V's theme is so powerful it really pulled me in immediately. I'm glad I didn't pick up the game right on release and waited for the patches to fix it.
The OST of Cyberpunk 2077 is probably one of the most memorable and best in all of video games. It was bug free on release as well.
Nice adding proper subtitles, wish all content creators had that care.
So close to 100k babyyyyy! Also, amazing analysis as usual marco. Keep up the good work!
I’ve avoided hearing anything from the soundtrack of Cyberpunk, till now.
I’ve been loosely following the game since launch, and for about a year I’ve been really debating playing it.
Thank you for the professional look! You can't say it better! And I couldn't understand why when listening to this melody, tears welled up.
I absolutely love this music. It's like musical manifestation of V's determination.
Been looking ages for reactions to the main theme, I think you might be the only one so far lol cheers.
yay!!! My pleasure.
Half the fun of these videos is watching Marco jamming.
:)
I'd absolutely love to see more cyberpunk videos! the soundtrack has soooo much character and diversity, its truly amazing! And once again amazing video Marco
man your analysis is really amazing.i love this
I love this track, I've actually just sat at the title screen to let it play sometimes.
Thank you so much for putting subtitles
this music encapsulates the cyberpunk 2077 story, if you played the game think about what happened in the story from start to end then listen to this music, of course, its all IMO.
I clearly remember the title screen first time, "press space" and when you hit it instantly you match the very first drop of this theme.
The technical criticisms were deserved when the game came out but man the writing and music CDPR put out is still to this day, out matched.
my favorite piece of this game is Aldecaldos theme, it gives me so much piece, lovely your analysis of this piece Marco :3
I absolutely second this. Not just the music, but the whole clip.
Also they're pretty short so I highly recommend you also do the Metroid Prime 2 and 3 main menu themes as well
Bruh
I don't know what the game was like when it first came out but as someone who started a play through for the first time recently, I've thoroughly enjoyed it. From what I understand they worked really hard the past year or two to try and correct a lot of the problems the game had despite all the losses.
Hey, Marco! What do you feel about that?
Cyberpunk 2077 main theme always gives me a feeling of been eaten alive, as if u are running from a hive of some robot bees, your time is limited and it doesn't matter where or how far you try to run away. Because this world has it's own pace, and the only thing you can do is to show it that you can run against it.
totally agree
Never stop fighting V.
Would love to see you analyzing : i really wanna stay at your house and let you down.
These two make me rly feel smt. Ty for your amazing videos
A thing of beauty - I know. Will never fade away...
There's another name to the opening theme: "What they fear most is V."
Omg if u do more pls do "you won't have to forgive me ever again" it's so good
One of the best video game soundtracks of all time. So well crafted.
Finally some attention to the main theme. Everyone are so concentrated on Johnny's theme, everyone forget about how perfect V's theme is.
You hit the nail on the head, there are no happy endings in Night City, wrong people, wrong city
I'd also like to point out that to me, the cello in the middle of all that electronic beat dropping is V holding on to their lifeline, the last bit of their humanity, their soul, which is what Arasaka's Relic is threatening
That’s crazy that your on a cyberpunk kick too. I was playing last night.
“The Rebel Path” with cello intro needed to be heard, because if this what you heard is good that’s gonna be awesome
I've never heard somebody explain music's meaning, symbolism and etc SO well. I "over-analyze" themed music as well and I'm so happy I came across someone like minded
Cyberpunk had a rough launch, but boy is this game awesome in 2023.
We all know what is the real masterpiece in this game....
PON PON SHIT
everyones a gangsta until the Cello drops! i adore the cello piece at the end,
"Goooooooddddddd morning! Night cityyyyy!" Hypes me up every time i start up the game
I can't help but comment this on every CP2077 music video I see. I just love how the bom bom bom bom bom bom bom from V's theme is used in the ending music, Rite of Passage I think. Just... ecstatic. It says "sorry V, there won't be an ending you can look forward to".
love seeing professionals confirm my love for the music for this game
my favorite song is "outsider no more." it is bleak, and the melody's quiet meandering betrays the reality of the situation. the song plays whenever V is facing something emotionally devastating, or is being traumatized. making an impossible decision. outsider no more. you finally know the truth. juxtaposed is its usage when V becomes part of a community. like the duality of the world V has to navigate, it is hauntingly beautiful, but a reminder of everything it costs.
It's so good to have the Power to change the likes from 1k to 2k
Love the cover (P.T. Adamczyk & Olga Jankowska) of never fade away and the Aldecaldos (Star Ending theme). Could listen to it on repeat all day long.
I'd recommend Never Fade Away (Cover Version), Rebel Path (Cello Version), and Health, all from Cyberpunk 2077.
Alot of cb2077 music are really good. Like Valentino combat theme really bring out the south murica feels
my cat at 3:00 am for no reason 5:08
😂😂😂😂😂😂
When I hear this theme, I imagine the build up is V waking up and realizing he’s on a clock, after that, it’s him crawling back onto his feet guns blazing just trying to get to whatever solution he’s got left in the holster, a last ditch charge to the finish line of life
