  • For Earth Day, STEM in 30 visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum to talk to them about their Survivor Tree and the new Glade area under construction. The Glade is dedicated to those who lost their lives from toxins in the air caused by the 9/11 Attacks.

The Survivor Tree was nurtured and saved by the workers at the NYC Parks Citywide Nursery in the Bronx.

Yes it also survived a terrible Nor Easter while it was planted at the NYC Parks Citywide Nursery just before it was slated to be moved back to ground Zero. It actually was ripped out of the ground by strong winds. We had to replant it and delay the move back to the World Trade Center about six months to let the tree reestablish it’s roots again for the move so it would not go into shock. You can Google Survivor Tree and not Easter

@@richiecabo1897 Thank you so much for taking care of that beautiful survivor, this tree means a lot and you and your team are heroes for all the great work you've done. I have a question, I saw in another documentary that the tree was already 30 years old when 9/11 happened, and that this kind of tree live about 80 years. The tree is about 50 years now, right? When his time comes, do you have any seeds planted already that would replace him? Thank you again for the care and love you put into him. God bless.

Instead of seedlings, why not take two or three cuttings and make them grow. So when the day comes that the original tree dies, another tree can take its place. Not a seedling, but a tree grown from a cutting, which means it will actually be a extension of the original tree.

Where the cedar of Lebanon that was taken away from ground zero and plant another? That did happen and is biblical. I want to talk to the NYC park recreation and parks to see if this type of tree can be planted around ground zero. Where George Washington prayed in 1777 to the Lord to bless this nation at the Lord's will. Very significant indeed. Not the city hall lol no but to the people that love this country in NYC.

is this video in error? all other reports show only the stump remaining, with a cedar replacing the original sycamore in 2003, and that tree dying in 2014 & not being replaced. what's the real story? the web doesn't help with the conflicting stories.

That was a different tree. A Lebanese cedar, I think. (Jan Griffiths).
