Very much appreciate the recommendations "outside of genre". I'd be happy to see this become a regular feature. Finding conscientious reviewers who provide genuinely useful info with their recommendations is essential and one of the bigger challenges when it comes to reliably finding good reads. I'm thrilled to have more recommendations from such reviewer. Regardless of genre.
Put very simple Scythe is magnificent. And I was so lucky to have the very first book signed by Neal Shustermann when it got out. I even dared to ask a question ☺️ and get a very blury picture💙
@@ebnovels i re read it last fall and finally read the short story collection he released in the same universe! It was very helpful to get me out of a slump lol
Great video! Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents are two of my all time favorites! Killers of the Flower Moon should be required reading! 😊
Killers of the Flower Moon would’ve been such a fantastic read when I was in high school-coupling it with American History I think would’ve been great. Though it obviously wasn’t out yet when I was in high school 😅
Yesterday I finished volume 5 of witch hat atelier, I started reading it because of your recommendation and I'm really, really loving it! I can't wait to keep going
I love June Hur books! I have read all 3 and can’t wait for the next one. She does such a good job putting us in the historical world and it so different from my life experience that it does feel like fantasy. And she manages to make the women strong and capable even if the their world doesn’t want them to be. I started Scythe last month and then put it down because I was traveling. So I am going to pick it back up next week. You reminded me of my favorite parts and why I want to get back to it.
There is a sequel to Parable of the Sower called Parable of the Talents which is also good. There is a lot of historical fiction that takes place not in Europe and not involving WW2. Books set in the US, Asia and the list goes on. I’m going to check out Scythe.
Great video, I am definitely here for more of this type of video. I also wanted to say that I love your outro, the music is lovely and I always stay to see that adorable furry face!
Yes, more of this please. I don’t read a lot of strict fantasy or science fiction, but I do enjoy books that are sff-adjacent. The speculative, dystopian end of the genre is where I find my most hits. The absolute worst for me is anything where they go on a quest. That’s a snoozefest.
Killers of the flower moon is a great book! I read it earlier this year and have heard from many how the book was so much better than the movie. Witch hat atelier is on my want to read list. Great video, thank you❤️
I haven't read manga for a decade or so but one day I walked pass Witch Hat Atelier in my local library and omg the artwork made me pick them up. Now I'm gonna sit here waiting for another decade for the series to finish before binging them LOL
Oh I love The Downstairs Girl. Definitely have to pick up another book by the author soon. And so great you brought up Scythe, I've seen it sitting on your shelf but never saw you talk about it. Haven't gotten to the third instalment yet because I have heard not so good things about it, but I might give it another go now :) overall, great recommendations

Oh boy, idk if I can pick! Evicted is still pretty high up there for me…but there are so many others that are phenomenal (like Killers of the Flower Moon)
Unfortunately The Red Palace doesn’t appear to be available as an ebook here in Australia. Which means I will be unable to read what appears to be an interesting story.
The author has two other books that are great also. They are older than The Red Palace, so they might be available now. I am in the US and had trouble getting my hands on The Red Palace. I read almost exclusively through my library. So I wonder if The Red Palace was under bought or marketed. Good luck finding a June Hur book. I think she is worth the effort in finding her books.
witch hat for all 11 it's seventy quid on uk amazon .... the ebook one.....i'm not going to go to forbidden planet to see if they have it, 'cause the last time i went. i burnt thru £137 and walked away with 12 mangas [fuck the 3 for the price of 2], a comic for 99p, 2 t shirts and 'a taste of tea' ..... 'smattering of tea' ..... 'a tempest of tea' in hardback for 15 quid ...haven't read it yet, just tell me if it's good / not. the only reason i haven't read it yet is because of the videos that yubtub keep on suggesting..... my 'i'll read this book later' is bigger than my actual book collection

RE: If You Could See the Sun: As Star Trek put it once: It’s easy to be a saint when you live in paradise.
I googled that and found the reference to Deep Space Nine - a Star Trek series I never got into. But it is so true.

Scythe is so underrated! Glad to see you talk about it more!
The Scythe trilogy and Parable duology are both so freaking good
This is a great video- I will definitely be keeping an eye out for these books. Would love if you continue doing this style of video!
I think I’ll try to do these from time to time! Thanks for the feedback ☺️
YES i love scythe!!! Such a fun twist on a dystopian
Talking about it made me want to reread it, but ahhh, there are so many books I need to read first 😆
@@ebnovels i re read it last fall and finally read the short story collection he released in the same universe! It was very helpful to get me out of a slump lol
A Trilogy by the same author as Scythe called the Skinjacker Trilogy is SO good and SO underrated. I highly recommend.
I just started Witch Hat, it's so good! Thanks for putting it on my radar.

the scythe series! One of my favourites, even though like you I mostly read fantasy

That last book "the red palace" sound kinda similar to the novel/manga/anime "the apothecary diaries", you should give it a try.

Witch Hat Atelier sounds great - and I've been looking for some manga recommendations - so I'll definitely check it out - thanks!
Just finished Kill Her Twice by Stacey Lee and it was a quick and fun read. I'm starting to really like her as an author.
_Witch Hat Atelier_ is fantastic. Great story, and probably the best art I've seen in a manga.
I thought I didn't like manga until I tried Witch Hat Atelier, it's chef's kiss

Neil shusterman tends to write very suspension of disbelief what ifs, but they’re always like crack. I really like the unwind series by him
Please read the crown of stars series. Would love to hear your opinions
I haven't read Killers of the flower moon, but another book of the author, The Lost City of Z. Can recommend!
Great video!! literally adding everything to my TBR lol.
what did you think of the rest of the series for Parable of the Sower?
Witch Hat Atelier is lovely!!!!
It is!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Witch hat sounds so good!
Ah, it’s fantastic!
Neil Schusterman said that the Scythe series is getting a movie adaptation in a tiktok. I really hope they do it well.
If you could see the sun is a very easy read..i enjoyed it
Agreed! I’ll be curious to see how the author writes adult works (as well as their other YA ones)
Heyyy, where's your book? It belongs on this list!

Hi there. I joined your Patreon thru your link. However when i downloaded to app, its asking me to join again-upgrade from free. What should i do?
Is witch hat atelier like a cozy story or? Meditative? Action-y?
I’d say more a mix of cozy, sometimes adventurous, with philosophical musings mixed in :)
NOR SHOUT, WITHAL!
