It's such a massive adjustment to life with a little guy. I remember having little ones and a friend recommending a MOPS group. It was so comforting, finding people who were right there where I was at. This was hard on top of hard like all tangled up like a kite string. Things that are usually a source of joy, like your mega varieties of tomatoes are indeed a loss this year.
Nature just did it's thing and sometime it's destructive rather than creative. I absolutely love your reset mindset in the midst of the disappointment and frustration. This is so relatable and I so appreciate your transparency. Just do what you can this year and rest when you can. Just keep planting. Yess!!! Spinach, Kale, and a new wave of tomatoes will be popping up in no time. And go Hugelkultur bed!!! (by the way you TOTALLY inspired me and I have my first bed this year too and when you said it was a lot of work you weren't kidding, but sooooo worth it.) I'm definitely pro cardboard and woodchips. Total game changer.

I am older now and I have given up my organic garden at the community center. I had a nice 6 x 30‘ plot. I grew everything in there. But the last couple of years the bugs were winning the game. And I noticed that even though we were all supposed to be organic some of my neighbors in their adjoining plots used poison. I refused to do that. So like you on the years that nothing else worked I just decided I would not get zucchini and squash that year, etc. And I grew the things that would grow without a lot of intervention. Going with the flow is important. Also I think if you leave a vegetable out there that was hit hard with bugs or move it to another spot, when you start that vegetable again a lot of those bugs will have moved along someplace else. By lol I tried using some Green Stalks on my back patio which is very small. I was very excited about this. But we not only have drawn mice and rats onto our porch chewing through our screens, I believe the organic soil also had some fleas or mites in it. So I was dealing with something attacking my poor caged birds inside my house. So I may have to let that back porch garden go as well. Very sad for me. I guess I will just have to order organics by the box to be delivered. I really envy you your land and your lifestyle. Keep up the good work. You are a great inspiration to everyone.

Hey there! I appreciate your videos. Isn't it interesting how each year is so different? Just like life. I've learned many lessons in just two years of growing food. Also, I have a son named Malachi as well and he loves helping in our garden. :) Best wishes on your reset!

I'm sorry you had such a trying summer garden! I feel your frustrations and the same as you, just accepting and moving forward, grateful for any harvest I do get:) I had voles eat 70% of my garden this year😅 First time I've had an issue with them after 5 successful garden seasons here in NW PA. Cheers to a fresh start!

Do you think you’ll get a high tunnel in the future? It might help, but it’s also such a huge expense.

I live in WNY too and we have the same problems this year. I love your positive spirit though! I need to do a garden clean out and reset too.

If you go to The Rusted Garden. He's an expert on this. He recommended 3% Hydrogen peroxide (4ozs )(h2O2) Per 1 Gallon if water. Fine mist soak all leaves to kill fungus spores and do a good soil fertilizer after. Beautiful garden🍉🌽🍆

Town south of me, got 470% MORE rain than normal this year. Its one of the wettest summers on record where I am. Its causing massive leaching in the soil, and for me physically battering my plants.

We had soooo much rain in July and so much cooler than normal. Tough year for sure

I’m downstate from her and we’ve had rain for the last 2.5 months. Like there were weeks it rained almost every day, then if we got stretches of dry days they’d be followed by the heaviest down pours I’ve ever seen. I expanded my garden (doubled it with a third huge garden) and I’ve battled everything from wireworms, onion maggot, blights, leaf spot, poor germination and poor drainage. It’s been so rough. But there’s little rays of sunshine like my first few honeydews and a few watermelons and winter squash!

I'm in the Pacific NW, and it's been the DRIEST and HOTTEST summer we've ever had. My concern is usually the weather never being hot enough, but now it's been too hot. So interesting the difference just across the US.
I miss the rain a bit, but definitely not the slugs and other bugs it brings with it. 😬

It’s hard when things don’t go as planned.. but it’s almost an opportunity to start afresh and get creative all over again! Can’t wait to see all those beautiful flowers bloom 🌼

Chop those weeds down with a chopper and add to bucket for a compost tea that plants thrive on. Tip from David The Good! (Weed Compost Tea)
For Peppers, use stepping Stones near base allow to soak up heat and place a covers over them like a mini green house (row covers or separate covers with bamboo stakes. The stones maintain warm roots 😁

We are moving to central NY in a month or so from central Florida 😄 it’s going to be a total new gardening experience for me come next year but I’m excited for a new challenge! Glad to see so much variety in your garden and I’ll be honest it looks like a total success compared to what I can grow during the summer here! ♥️
