Watching your videos have taught me so much. I am just an old Grandpa that is attempting to video his grandchildren and their sports so that they will have some life long memories of their childhood. From as far back as I can remember I have always had a camera but never bothered to learn how to use them properly. Thanks for helping me learn how to make videos that they might even keep and watch some day!

hey man, thanks for the video man! I have a sports channel, i have put a lot of my effort on it but its still flagged with a reused content, I don't know what to do!
Instead of using other people’s content, go film games, trick shots or training videos in your area and make videos about that. It’s the only way to not have your videos demonetized.
I love your page I been looking for awhile for a UA-cam channel that can help me get better at sports videography i would love to see you do a video tips on cinema American football highlights
Perfect, learned so much and still learning. I like to use a lot sports graphics on my videos like you see on tv. I get mine from motionarray so I can be different than everyone else. Do you use any?
yeah using templates is a good way to learn and get better at making graphics. That's how I started and I still use them some times but I try to create my own as much as possible within my limitations.
Hey I been watching your videos and your a beast . I’m new to all of this , I have a junior athlete and really wanted to get good at editing his videos just don’t really know where to start . He’s a boxer getting ready for the junior Olympics, hope you can help . Thank you
I literally just started filming sports for a nearby high school. I am curious to know how I am doing and I think there are probably others out there like me. Have you ever thought of doing a LIVE STREAM youtube video where viewers can send their videos to you, and you critic them while we all watch and learn?
Hi Nathan, thanks for reaching out. I found that the best way to do this for me is to do channel reviews. I did my first one a couple weeks ago that you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/sb8FqvKy2P8/v-deo.html. A few people have sent me links to their channel since so I aim to do another one soon. If you want, just upload a few of your videos on youtube and send me the link. I'll be more than happy to give you a bit of feedback.
Thanks @@BeyondTheGame_E! I checked it out! Also an idea for another tutorial video - Maybe create a tutorial where you are actually showing us how YOU would edit a video. It would be longer, but I'd watch! Show us your favorite fonts, your favorite transitions! Your favorite things in After effects and Premiere Pro! Just another thought.
@@pronetoride I'm based in Australia so I don't go to Cali that often but it would be awesome to do it. Are you near or in LA? I usually transit through LA when I go back home to Montreal. We could arrange something next time.
Good job! I like that you're giving some examples of stories, more would be even better. I'm curious why you're shooting video with a 7d MkII. Because of the crop sensor? Is there another reason? I'm thinking a video on how to do slow motion would be great. I don't have a 120fps camera, so I'm slowing footage down in post. I just realized today that you have to shoot the original footage at higher shutter speeds than the rule of thumb (2x the frame rate). My thought is shoot at 2x the frame rate x speed rate. So 30 fps x 4 times slow motion needs a shutter speed around 1/250th of a second. Thoughts?
Hi man, thanks for your feedback. I'm actually using a C100 MkII not a 7D. For the budget I had when I bought it and the type of projects I usually work on, it was the most logical choice in my opinion. I would love to eventually get a C200 though. Regarding slow motion, you can't do great looking slow motion footage if you film at 30fps. You'll have to record at 60fps so that you can slow it down to 30. If not, you basically have 15 frames per second in a 30 frame per second sequence which will look like there's a bit of lagging going on. If your camera doesn't allow you to do 60fps either, then I get why you do with what you have but it won't look great no matter the shutter speed unfortunately.
I can tell you the #1 mistake is people have turned highlight videos into "special effect" videos that just happen to show sports.....watch Ballislife or ESPN, or Houseofhighlights, all they show is the plays with no stupid effects that change every 2 seconds....as with a lot of things in life, less is more when it comes to making highlights.
That doesn’t really make sense... your clients should know and agree on the length of your video before you even start. And if they’re not happy with the result, you just have to make changes in line with their feedback. Editing is never a take it or leave it scenario.
Thanks for the vid!!! I tried implementing what you said this past weekend at a basketball game. Not finished editing yet, want to change up some slow scenes, take it into AE, etc. Still learning PR and AE. Let me know if I’m heading in the right direction, music choice, cutting out enough shots (will also make a 1min vid for Instagram), etc. Thanks for all you do, really appreciate it. Also, are there any 3rd party plugins that are free that I should take a look at? Merry Christmas.
Thanks for your feedback man, it's always greatly appreciated 🙏. I need to start doing more content for Instagram myself, that's one of my goals for 2019. And regarding free plugins, have a look at websites like Video Copilot and Rocketstock. They both have a freebies section with a few templates and overlays that can be useful. Merry Xmas to you too buddy 🎄
I don’t really film athletics. Ive only done it a couple times. I’d try to have two cameras, even if one is on a tripod by itself. Because the most interesting parts are the start and the finish, so I would have I camera on the finish line and one covering the start of the race.
@@BeyondTheGame_E I am a beginner in this, what software would you recommend, and what effects/transitions do you suggest. or should I keep it play and simple....the idea is basically for athletes to look back at the event on UA-cam.
Any editing software will do. Any paid version can do what the others do. Some will get you there a bit faster but they can all do the same things. Personally I use Première Pro but you’d be fine with iMovie or Filmora to start. Also effects are not really a thing I focus on. Storytelling is the most important part. You need that before anything else.
Thank you for this! However, if I don't film my own footage, then what do you think is the best way to change my shot variety, or tell a story with my videos?
For shot variety, you can always try to find cutaway shots. Find crowd reaction shots that don't even need to be from that same game or event, and add them after a big play or something like that. Or you can always mix things up by giving some "hero shots" a different look with a cool filter or a colour tint. To tell a story, you can use animated titles. Or if you're doing a video about a player, you can download a bunch of his interviews and edit some of the audio into a narration for your video. Merry Xmas and good luck, let me know how you go.
My biggest gripe is when they show somebody in the air, i.e. a skateboarder, skier, motorcycle, etc, and they cut to another scene just before the landing, so you don’t know if they stuck it or crashed.
Thanks for the great tips. When you film an event do you have one camera on a tripod continuously filming and then a second as a handheld to do close ups? or are lucky enough to have multiple camera operators?
Most of the time it’s exactly the first option you described. The camera on the tripod will either capture a wide shot of the action, or if I’m filming for a specific team I’ll point it at the other team’s goal so I don’t miss any of the scoring.
