- It’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these kinds of videos but with a new attitude means another attempt shall be made. Today we talk about Papo. Or more specifically Papo Dinoaurs or the Papo Prehistoric line. And how in recent years they’ve started slipping up and not performing up to the standards dinosaur toy collectors have seen from them in the past. you bring up a good point that now there’s no “big 5” companies anymore and that some are being replaced for other companies. Papo has seemingly just fallen behind, unable to make pop culture depictions that catch with current society.
Honestly I could see Papo changing their game but keeping that detail everyone loves (or maybe doing even better in that aspect) by designing their dinosaurs the same way they did their 2019 Spinosaurus, blending accuracy and stylization and all. Imagine they had a T. rex with a sculpt more akin to Prehistoric Planet’s, or even had Deinocheirus for once.
When I was younger I thought there was only the big 4: Safari ltd, Collecta, Papo, and Shleich
A good overview. I think the most important factor is, as you mentioned, Rebor, Nanmu, & W-Dragon have taken over the JP niche with even more screen accuracy. And for lifelike textures / paint apps + scientific accuracy, PNSO is the hegemon, crowding out even Safari (I still prefer Safari) and Collecta in the hearts of many collectors. Prior to 2015 Papo had both JP and lifelike finishes all to itself. Since then, coincidentally around when Carnegie ended, it's been a whole new playing field.
But even before then Papo had its haters among accuracy fanatics, and fans were disappointed by the Tylosaurus (2012). Still, that was nothing like the outrage against the Giga (which I personally love, but to each their own). I hope Papo keeps trying different things; maybe experimentation can be its niche.
I don't know why people hate the Papo Gigantasaurus pose, it's so good! I love it!
Think if it was in a running pose it would be perfect
maybe it could actually happen if a trike or something was attacking and the giga was dodging but otherwise how do you play with the figure like have it peeing on something?
It’s Really Sad To See Papo Slowing Falling To It’s Demise, Theres So Much Potential That There Just Not Using, Honesty It Feels Like There Bringing This Upon Themselves.
the Papo Running T. rex is actually used in pieces of Jurassic World concept art.
Papo has really taken a nose dive with their quality, I really do hope they pull their head out of the gutter.

I felt the same thing about Schleich, their toys weren’t the best but their are always some good ones, but then over time, it just got worse and worse, like have you seen how they evolve one species as a toy like the allosaurus.
And yeah, their toys a hideous or just similar to Jurassic park.
But What do you expect to a company that makes toys mainly for little Kids from Germany 🇩🇪 where I also ones lived in😒
It’s sad to have seen them fall and get overshadowed by other companies. Can they change in 2023? Who really knows as 2022 definitely has more to look forward to that. So who knows, maybe they’ll clean up their act the year after next year, but I have my doubts

Yeah, I'm not really into Papo as much anymore 😅 Nowadays I'm more into the old Schleich Replicasaurus line (mainly for my nostalgia and liking towards them when I was younger) and of course Safari's Carnegie Collection for their amazing dinosaur and prehistoric models 😉
Maybe one day we will Papo go through a renaissance.

My Favorite papo is the Limited Edition Spinosaurus 2019 and Carnotaurus

Well even Papo's dinosaur figures were best for most people but for me, it depends on my interest/opinion so if Rebor or Safari or schleich made figures look good for sculpt on my favorite dinos I'll grab it, so I'm might be different then other Dinotubers

I have that Giganotosaurus, i get it only just because of the pose and how different it is.
Honestly maybe I'm a bit naive here but i kinda speculate that the krono might be their second limited edition figure that also releases later than the rest of the lineup

They weren’t giving it a chance saying there was a kronosaurus after the images but before the images people originally thought that there was gonna be a kronosaurus and I have something to say I can’t find the Mosasaurus figure anywhere

Hey you forgot some characters, maybe because they are concept characters: Reaper, Eye Flumpty, Green Flumpty, Shadow Flumpty (a bit like shadow Freddy, Grey Rabbit and Bandaged Beaver!
I've never heard of those characters with the exception of Shadow Flumpty. Looking them up they don't really seem to exist in any main ONAF. For Shadow Flumpty, he wasn't included because he only appears on Flumpty's night as a clone which I stated I wouldn't include in the tierlist.

not very likely because honestly Safari Ltd hasn't taken a huge dip in quality in my personal opinion.
I used to be a Schleich and Papo guy, but mainly because those were best available in my country, but the last few years I rebooted my dinosaur collections to only include either Scientifically accurate models, or really unique ones. Which meant I threw out pretty much all Schleich and Papo dinosaura I had, cause they didnt meet my new specifications.
They were replaced my models from PNSO, Rebor, collecta and safariLtd, cause those models were higher quality, more scientifically accurate and more worth the money for me.
Nanmu is even better
I know this is a bit random but my most controversial papo takes are:
The 2019 allosaurus repaint looks better than the original 2008 version
The papo giganotosaurus looks really cool
And finally, I think the papo pachyrhinosaurus looks absolutely god awful.

A year later and things have gotten sadder. Papo is dead, schleich is a joke, and Safari has just slowed down to a standstill. CollectA seems to be doing fine, but they’re being massively outshined by other brands.

I think you are aiming at the wrong target here. Papo got some downgrades, yes, but boy is Schleich even worse. For almost 10 years they didn’t stopped releasing awful looking figures and it’s getting worse with almost each wave. And they were unbeatable in the years 2008-2010. Papo is far from being like Schleich.
@@DarianTheDinosaur Yeah I can understand. But even the worst Papo model doesn’t look as bad as some Schleich’s most recent models. Despite being less liked by the collectors, no one can deny that Schleich was much better before. You just have to take a look at the last batch of the Replica Saurus line. Absolutely stunning back then !
