Paloma is like always, so sweet. The people looking for thir money at cashiers are so anoying. It's like they didn't know that a payment is part of the whole process. Same on the buss, there is always a twat that is looking for their money for half hour.

Jason is so right about the chip and pin thing. Every time I go in the Co-op they always tell me about all the bloody steps "just pop your card in the bottom" "just enter your pin and press the green button" and they even tell me to take the card after I have already taken the card out. I do actually work on checkouts myself at a shop and the only time I say about the pin and taking the card out is when the customer hasn't done it after about 5 seconds or so depending on what the situation is.

Or their bus passes ready at the bus stop so you have to wait while they spend minutes fishing through their bags..

I'd love to see Paloma's segment. I am not in the UK so I hope the BBC will upload hers here.

Working in retail, it is surprising how many people seem not to know how card machines work - 'shall I put my PIN in?', 'shall I take the card out?', 'can I swipe it when it's over £100?'

She's obviously never been to Lidl, it's all about speed, they don't care about your packing.

Working in Retail I feel sorry that I ask customers to enter their pin numbers into the reader, we only say that because sometime we get people day-dreaming... Hello? We could be sitting their all day waiting for them to wake up and pay ha ha.
People on their phones bug me too, trying to be polite by saying hello etc, no response from them. Also I don't like people who spend ages packing, that's why we ask if they need help, then we ask if they need help opening bags, they always say "No I think I've got it..." *Few seconds later, they giggle* "Could you do it for me, probs better than me.." -sighs-
But I've gotten compliments on my packing skills, customers say am I good at Tetris... Not really, just know how to pack ha ha! :)
That's what Retail is all about for me to be honest ha ha!

I have to say I resent helping with packing as do most cashiers I know. Triple speed is saved for those that smell.

Has Deborah had a face lift. She looks quite attractive. Or am I just getting older?
I know she's had work done and got a new hair style and is smiling. Never looked like this on Dragons Den.

VERY politically correct Deborah. In my 66 years, I can count the number of Males who I have seen do that with one hand.
The worst used to e the old Ladies when we had Summer caravans in THe Kent Countryside and the local half-hourly bus would arrive and as they boarded they would THEN dive into their handbag or purse. We did not mind standing behind them trying to get on the bus, in the rain, honest :)

Daft thing to be worried about, how quickly people get their money out! They've been unloading groceries from the trolley onto the belt - are we so impatient that the few seconds more that it might take to pay becomes an issue? Unless you're in the up to 10 items checkout, but even then...

How can you have your money ready until the cashier finishes totting it up? They have to tell you how much first, how long does it take then to go okay and produce the money? Seems silly to be so impatient.

Some people have their money in a 4 by 5 acre wallet which contains EVERYTHING from money, to make up, a toilet to stables for the cattle. But that wallet is inside a handbag underneath all the other shit which has to be scooped aside.....This is about having a wallet or money ready in your hands. And your argument is valid if there are many items, but it also happens with people with two or three items. Adding up three numbers yourself to get a rough estimate of the price isn't rocket science. You will also find that in most shops the price of each item is mentioned where the item is being presented in the shelves. ;)

I see what Deborah means about people seeming surprised they have to pay and being unprepared though, but I agree your hands may be full by the shopping before you can get your money out. I think on the bus it's less forgiving. Lol.
