Its been a month and I haven’t ridden my new horse yet, but after years of nothing but riding lessons I’ve found I really enjoy just spending time with her - these videos have been so useful to help me enjoy that time and feel like I’m learning things I never would’ve otherwise!
That’s really good just hanging out with your horse. Not everything is done under saddle. You can have quality time without riding at all. Just spend time grooming or sitting in the field or stable reading a book. He’ll come to you as he’d like to see what your doing. Go for walks in hand around the country roads.
Have you ever tried clicker training? Tucker seems clever, but in my experience clicker training makes it so much easier to communicate the exact behavior that you want. I've actually clicker trained my cat to do a few tricks, so that should be a testament to how effective it is 🤣
Hello! I have never tried clicker training but I definitely want to! I've studied up on it a bit and I think it would work well for Tucker's personality. And IKR!!!! If you can train a cat with clicker training, it must be effective! This comment is going to make me go out and buy the clicker now 😂
I had a horse that was clicker trained and she was awful. To no fault of her own, she went crazy if you clicked her on to walk or trot, and she got very upset and violet when she didnt receive a treat for anything. I wouldnt reccommend using clicker training on a young horse or frequently.
I just found and literally saved every single video you have to my playlists (even the things I'm well educated and experienced with) I just LOOOOVE the way you explain everything from the simplest things right up to the harder tricks to learn for even experienced equestrians! Great job keep up the good work I'm looking forward to more videos from you!
Wow, looks like this video is about a year old and you have gone from 500 subscribers to 100k subscribers Well done and congratulations. I have only just discovered your channel. I love dogs and horses. I had a dog named Tucker and an Appaloosa named Spotty. Both now departed. My life is still full of dogs and horses and your videos have brought those two back to the foreground.
Hi Carmella, this was so engaging and pretty clear cut. I have been self "grounded" from riding since my last fall a couple of years ago but love my horse and am always looking for fun stuff to do on the ground with her....trying to teach soccer at the moment ugghh. I just subscribed to your channel and will continue to come back for more. Thank you for doing this , especially when most of us having to socialize more with our critters these days and we are so lucky we don't have to 'socially distance from them'...lol. You are special! Love the humor.
How do you teach NOT TO PAW ⁉️ My horse pawed a barbed wire fence where he was borded to pasture . He tore the whole back of his foot OFF . Blood spurting and puddles when I found why he didn't come to eat. $ 2,000 later and a year of wrapping. 🙄 He's retired now. 😒 Saved his life but I can't ride him. Keeping my (now trained) Mustang company.
Hi Carmella!, I just purchased my first horse-a 14 year old Arabian Gelding about 3 months ago (I turn 60 next week btw). Turns out, he is a cousin of my fiancé’s Arabian. I started taking lessons which has been helpful, but now my trainer is going through cancer treatment and no longer available. I have been having some challenges with Vinny, and feel I kinda need to start from the beginning. My fiancé found you yesterday, and today, I started lunging Vinny and trying the exercise of lunging him when he eats grass when I have him on a lead line. I will make my next goal with him by taking him out to the field and do as you suggested when he eats and lunge him for a few min. And do that for about 30 min. You are a great teacher-thanks so much!
Hi Lorry! Happy Birthday! Glad I could be of help! I'm sorry to hear about your instructor, but if you ever have any in-depth questions, feel free to email equinehelperllc@gmail.com!
Do give up I lived in NY and could barely afford lessons but I finally moved and I was able to find a horse that I could afford and grow with. Moral of the story be patient and never let your dreams die.😀
I totally agree with you, majestic creatures they are! I have been on a horse once in my life. but one day I will have my own huge yard with my horse and as much as other animals as possible
I found a work around for that: I am broke and live in a townhouse in a suburb, so no horse in my near future, but I found a horse rescue nearby, so I get to spend time with horses whenever I want.
Ive been trying to teach my mare to pick up her feet (end goal is the lay down to let me mount). Problem im having is when i ask her to pick uo her feet she instantly freezes like a statue! I could tap her legs literally all day long and she wouldnt flinch, i mean she seriously becomes a statue! Lol
A friend of mine is getting a new mini horse tomorrow, she’s going to be a therapy mini and my charge. I think we are going to try clicker training. But knowing this stuff is super helpful. I’m definitely going to try some of these things once she gets comfortable! I’m very excited! I’m subbed for future training help!
Me and my sister are getting a horse when we move! I’m very excited!!! Thanks for this video.my sister is going to compete in barrel racing,I’m just going to to have a trail horse!! Thank you
Hes loving those treats LOL. My sissy has a TWH who is like a puppy dog if you have treats... he will follow you everywhere and can find the pocket they are in every time!
Great video! I am rescuing a mini pony and we are gonna us it as a buddy horse when we haul out other horses and I thought it would be fun to teach the pony some tricks!
I am so impressed with this. It's not just what you have been able to teach Tucker, but the clear, pleasant manner in which you speak, besides the natural fact that you are very pleasant to look at, I might add, makes your videos so much fun, and the informative part is just a bonus. Keep it up! 131,000 subscribers!!! You have come so far since you did this video!
I taught this to Tucker without using treats; I just used pressure and release. I wasn’t too consistent teaching, so it took maybe 1 1/2 months. Each horse is different and consistency will help the process
Thank you so much this video is very helpful as well as all of your other ones, Tucker is a beautiful horse!! I have a five year old Arabian I would like to teach him some tricks but I don’t have any treats so we’ll see how we go!
Hi, I have no problem getting my one horse to come to me. I walk in the pasture and by the time I turn around from closing the gate, she's right behind me. So my question is: how do I teach her to stay in place so I can walk away then call her. Lunging can even be difficult because she just wants to stand with me but importantly she doesn't invade my space.
I am a pretty good animal trainer. My horse comes running whenever I whistle Minuet in G. And more -- he can differentiate it from my various border collie whistles. But there is one area that befuddles me: how to make my horse (& other animals) to understand he should only do tricks when I ask him to. Because, well -- for one example, once I taught my horse to kiss me for a treat, he started kissing me whenever he can, hoping I will give him a treat, but I do not carry them around with me if I am not training. Even though it is sweet for him to kiss me, it has equated to slobbering grassy green horsespit in my hair, down my neck...
Oh and btw I thought I'd share that I have accidentally trained my 4 year old to do the hug "trick" the other day but the more i think about it I really think he taught ME 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's worth mentioning that if you want to progress from pawing to Spanish walk you shouldn't teach the horse to lower his head to the chest because when he's walking throwing his legs out front the head needs to be higher up for him to anatomically be able to lift the legs up that high. Also sometimes the cue for Spanish walk is on the chest so the horse would be confused by the command.
I just found your channel and I love it!! Thank you for these great videos. I am your newest subscriber!! 😁 I expect to bring my first horse home in the next week or so (waiting on the hay to be delivered) and your videos are so great!!
Just got back into riding after being away for decades. Watching you from my bed where I broke my sacrum from a rearing horse.😮💨 Horse days done. But I'm still watching your videos cause I think you are pretty great.
CARMELLA!!! I love all your videos and info! Would you possible go over they types of illnesses for horses that are common and some of they signs/ what to look for?

@@nothingmuch4178 Why would you click and wouldn’t give her a treat? 🤔
Looks like she doesn’t need to clicker train as tucker already knows when to do tricks by body language.

HOW TO BE FREQUENTLY WITH YOUR HORSE...!
CAN YOU MAKE VIDEO ON THIS FOR ME....?
english?
Lol?
Teaching your horse how to paw is bad 😂 since it makes them think If they paw they’re gonna get food
She had 500 subscribers 4 months ago😲 now she almost has 5000

I though pawing the ground is a bad habit as the horse is seeking attention?
Ive been trying to teach my mare to pick up her feet (end goal is the lay down to let me mount). Problem im having is when i ask her to pick uo her feet she instantly freezes like a statue! Great vid, however remember it's not tricks, It is Psychology, Stimulas, responce, reward or reinforcment. And And a lot of patience! :)
Awesome. How long does teaching bow usually take, and are you treating after the bow or during the stret h portion?
I taught this to Tucker without using treats; I just used pressure and release. I wasn’t too consistent teaching, so it took maybe 1 1/2 months. Each horse is different and consistency will help the process
Woah! You look like Rose Leslie, the scottish actresse who played Ygritte in Game of Thrones! Cool videos! Wish I could be in Tucker's place ;-)

My pony’s name is tucker

I have 2 questions?
1.how do you rear?
2. How do you make your horse sit down to get on its back and get up for riding?
I've taught my horse to kiss, and now I'm gonna teach her to hug. The valentines pictues ideas are coming
He’s probably wondering who your talking to.😆
My horse is very grabby with treats. I was working on bow and he almost bit my fingers. Any tips for a grabby fella?
I didn’t really learn how to do this from your video - did you treat the horse? What did you do exactly step by step?
OMG 😮 girl I love how you do it
Oh and btw I thought I'd share that I have accidentally trained my 4 year old to do the hug "trick" the other day but the more i think about it I really think he taught ME 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If u belive it or not This is how circus ppl are teaching there animales
I love all your videos can you do a video on how to jump bigger than 2ft?
the subscribing one was so funny
Me who doesn't own a horse watching this video: mm yes interesting! 🤔
A thing I would like to have you do is how to make a stubborn pony lunge
What can I do when I have horses that haven't been ridden in a couple of years
Omg. That cat in the background.
"I have to be on camera so everyone can pay attention to me at once"
It's worth mentioning that if you want to progress from pawing to Spanish walk you shouldn't teach the horse to lower his head to the chest because when he's walking throwing his legs out front the head needs to be higher up for him to anatomically be able to lift the legs up that high. Jokes on you, my horse is self taught when it comes to pawing 🙂
The power of the poem I don't think any of those things will work on my horse
This video has a lot of amazing tricks ❤
