I remember being able to walk into any barbershop and ask “how many you got”. Then the barber will tell you how many ppl are ahead of you and you can decide if you wanna wait or not. This is what made a barbershop “THE barbershop”! Sadly them days LONG gone! Smh.

I am convinced that people think that cutting hair is something that you can do and doesn’t have any impact or affect on your body. If every industry was as an unorganized as everyone would love the barber industry to be, I couldn’t imagine how chaotic the world would be. You only have to go by your schedule and have the right to complain when you infringe on someone else’s schedule. The mirror of that is that you don’t like if someone infringes on your schedule? There have been plenty of times where the rules were the rules of the shop and someone expected you to change the rules to benefit them and you end up losing out on the money from the client because they don’t understand. Honestly, walking out probably did the shop and the barbers a favor so now they can replace people with people who want a streamlined system where there’s no overcrowding or overworking because someone doesn’t think of their neighbor as themselves.

In the 90s I cut everybody hair in the hood. I had clients on schedule booked by appointment all the time. I started when I was 14 cutting hair in 92 I charged 3$ a head I walked around with clippers in my back pack 🎒 By the end of the 90s I was charging 20 a head + tips for a regular cut that included low fades, Ceasars, high tops fades, high right low lefts, etc. Designs was extra, warm rags & aftershave, beard trimmed was extra normally depends if it was shape ups etc.. I charged a dollar a letter I was banking on average 1k a week. I stopped cutting professionally in 2007 over 150 clients later. I kept a few and still cut my son, grandson a few of my nephews, uncles and cousins hair and I'm 45 now. People always ask me for cuts still though. Maybe I need to dust off the old clippers and jump back in the game professionally after hearing these prices & comments 😂😂😂

@@Nathanael512 well it’s really where my hometown is and my parents. While I visit them I’ll schedule for a cut too. Where I live now guys charge $30-$50 which is high for me but I’d be ok if they actually cut it the way I ask. I even show them a photo of how I want it(which is nothing eccentric like designs or edging). So my hometown barber never stops educating himself by taking more classes, clinics, seminars etc for the latest techniques. He charges me $10 but I happily give him the $40-$50. I think he charges me that much cause he knows how far I drive from and yes loyalty. He’s also not afraid to tell me that certain styles I ask for aren’t gonna work for for the shape of my head, hairline etc. a lot of those “cocky” looking barbers like in the video are all show. Maybe one day I’ll find the right one and feel justified paying what they charge. Good question

Maybe they were busy before you got there and they were tired and you felt like they should stop doing what they weren’t doing to make sure you were good. There’s no one in the shop who sits around bragging about mistreating customers. We try to accommodate as many people as possible and if you do run in to barbers who have an arrogant attitude, it’s the person not because they are a barber. That’s just like saying every black person steals, or every cop shoots people.

Hitting the barbershop used to be a whole ass experience. I’m 40 now but when I was a youth and you needed a cut you might as well free your schedule. The shop had snacks for sale, magazines, football games or def comedy jam playin, video game systems with the barbers playing madden, 2K or street fighter/MK…and hella shit talking. Cats used to come thru selling burned cds and flicks. You’d easily be in there 2-6 hrs lol. Shoutout to Mr. Doug’s barbershop in Killeen Texas (RIP).

You know like when a persons at work getting paid when they’re not actually working but the price is the same. It’s funny but it’s crazy how barbers has really gotten rude and nasty towards the people that made them and they need a reality check but it’s coming for them too you did a great job showing how they act it’s true that’s why I have a great barber who loves everyone they sit in his chair and takes anybody if he is not busy and his son works with him and takes anyone that want a cut
