  • Putting any car on jack stands can be a tedious job, but can lead to damage on the car or even worse, personal injuries.
    In this video I explain how I lift a 911 and put it safely on jack stands by using a trolley jack, a bottle jack and 4 jack stands.
    Enjoy!

    Thank you so much for this video. I have a 996 turbo and was frustrated on how to jack this car and your video made everything simple and easy. Thank you.

    Interestingly this is the best way I found to jack up my 911, it's for sure the best way.

    Very good video, thank you for sharing. On a side note, do Porsche use a base coat clear coat for Guards Red on new 911's. How do you find the color to maintain, your car looks awesome but I know reds can tend to fade or go flat.

    • @WeAreShifted
      @WeAreShifted  4 роки тому

      Thank you! I'm not sure, to be honest, would have to ask my detailer for his opinion on the clear coat.
      The color, even though is not metallic, looks crazy in real life, and because the car was not exposed to UV a lot, it's still in great shape.
      We've now put PPF on the front end, doors and roof and a ceramic coating on the rear end to protect it a bit.

    is that suspension point accessible with the bottom covers on?

    • @WeAreShifted
      @WeAreShifted  2 роки тому

      I'll have to check on the 991 and 992 models, but I think the suspension point should be accessible since it's just under the engine. Might be different on 991/992 RS models with a solid underbody.

    why not place your rear jack stand at the location you put your bottle jack? So:
    1. Jack car up from rear jack point
    2. Place jack stand at front, and rear jack stand where you put your bottle jack

    • @WeAreShifted
      @WeAreShifted  Рік тому

      Hey Brian! Good point, that should suffice as well! At the time, I didn't have a proper rubber pad to put on the jack stands to prevent damage to the rear cross member. Along with that, if a proper pad is not used, the car could slip off of the jack stand, that's why using the correct inserts for the jacking points is highly advisable and even though it takes a bit longer with the extra step. :)

    i have no experience with this so I have a question. Instead of using bottle jack, can i just use trolly jack to lift front side of car and put jack stand at rear? ( i only need to lift rear side of car cuz im trying to change oil by myself)

    • @WeAreShifted
      @WeAreShifted  4 роки тому

      Sorry for the late reply! Yeah of course, you can definitely use a trolly jack, but make sure your car is level when changing oil, so everything drains out! :)

      @@WeAreShifted I'm not so sure I would like to lift the front first with the trolley jack. I know the chassis is strong but with an approx weight ratio of around 60%Rear/40%Front, lifting it at the front first puts a significant greater strain on the chassis lifting the engine weight as well. Far kinder on the car to lift the rear first I would say. Correct me please if I'm wrong.

      @@scruffygit771 hey! Yeah that’s why I’m lifting at the rear jacking point first, then place a jack stand under the front point, then use the bottle jack on the cross member. :)

      @@WeAreShifted Yep, completely agree with the way in which you have done it in the vid, but my reply was aimed at the OP when he asked if it was ok to lift the front on the trolley jack, which you agreed with?

      @WeAreShifted  3 роки тому +1

      @@scruffygit771 ahhh! I realize I misread the OP’s question! Yeah not even sure how far you’d have to lift the car before the rear would be high enough to put a jack stand underneath.

    Great video... I wonder if you only jack one side of the car at a time to take one side wheels off, are the opposite side tyres ok ? Not too much load or compressed..

    • @WeAreShifted
      @WeAreShifted  3 роки тому +4

      Yeah, it won't matter much for the suspension and the opposite side tyres. Remember, when driving fast, the car is subjected to immense forces! If you do that, just make sure you use at least two jack stands: lift at the rear jacking point, put a jack stand under the front jacking point and another at the rear suspension junction. That way, you and your car are protected if the jack fails. Good luck!
