The Phat Cats are fuller sounding. Here the 59 appears louder because its midrange emphasis. The Phat Cats have that lively, immediate response to pick attack in the wound strings - the 59 like any humbucker has that muted, rounded off attack there.
Those did sound pretty close to me all the way up to the "Lead by Marshall 1923" higher gain section. In that section they sounded pretty different to me, and I would probably say that the phat cats did sound more sharp. Not enough to where I would feel compelled to swap them out if I had one or the other though. Super interesting comparison
There's definitely more of that "jangle" in the Phat Cat. And when played through the Marshall, the Phat Cat (what I call) "sears" or "scorches" a bit more. I know I'm using ambiguous terms here. Take a listen to Cold Blood by Kix. You will immediately hear what I mean. Now, all that being said, depending on what you're trying to extract from your guitar tonewise, either of these is hard to beat in the neck position particularly considering price point.
The 59 definitely won the crunch in my opinion. The phat cat just lacked a lil bit in terms of clarity and overall crunch-ness and felt a little thin(but not bright). Lower output than the 59. Very comparable clean but the 59 for me overall. Also good playing👍

Big difference
Used to have the phat cat on my Gibson SG 61 RI and loving it

Thanks! There are different tones but not so much for me.
I was expecting a completely different sound and instead they are very close.
Thank you 🙏

Serious? Totally different
There are a couple spots where they are similar but overall there are subtle to more noticeable diferences
Sure but I was expecting a completely different sound and instead they are very close.
Nice video, very good comparison. I am thinking of getting the Phat Cats in my Les Paul but this makes me really wonder since they sound identical.
Thank you! it was a shock for me too.
The Phat Cat sound quite darker
Use headphones or quality speakers-the differences are there.

I much prefer the Phat Cats for that guitar, but I probably would have gone for Wide Range.
