One thing I learned from Hit Girl that helps me, is to put guitar rig on already with like a touch of the wet level. And as you find the right preset or settings or whatever, you bump up the wet level a little bit, to taste. It helps with countering the original idea getting disoriented when guitar rig is at 100%. SHOUT OUT Hit Girl! (I think she did it with another plug-in that's similar to guitar rig. I just copied the principles.)
