- Knowing how to shift gear for yourself could be vital in an emergency.
In this brief video, featuring the surprisingly docile Honda Civic Type R, the process is explained in full for drivers who have never used a manual gearbox before. There are useful tips for the inexperienced, such as finding a safe place well away from traffic to practice the art. Plus there’s a combination of graphics and exposition to make sense of it all.

Wow, Civic Type R's look really good in red!
This was soo helpful I’m going for my learners in a couple weeks!! Thnkq 😍❤️
great video straight and to the point!
Definitely do not want to roll back or stall in the middle of the intersection.
Use the handbrake at the same time
@@chrisb3189 okay use a handbrake but please do not become addicted to it because it's like riding a bike with training wheels for the rest of your life.
@@Juice-jx1pr Isn't one supposed to use the handbrake to avoid excessive clutch wear on hills?
@@chrisb3189 no because you never learned clutch control
@@Juice-jx1pr I did learn clutch control, but clutch control doesn't work with a small engine (stalls and bunny hops)
Good job sir because of your vlog tutorial I got some knowledge from you about driving
Thank you Sir!
Happy to help
thanks so much i got it really thanks
great explaination
This vedio is so helpful and very clear
I’m 14 but I will need this for where I live
Same for me lol
Im learning now how to drive and most likely the car that will be available to me will be a manual one
Nice Honda
Thank you, I want to learn how to actually do this so I don't look like an idiot when go for my hours
Shits soo confusing yo
It gets easier I promise
First you must learn how to ride a bike🚲
Never learnt
🤣 my siblings still can’t ride a bike properly and their old asf
@Dexter Mulele it’s really easy I promise just have patience once you learn it’s fun!
Then you need to learn how to ride a skateboard 🛹 Then I think a scooter 🛴 than you can move on to a manual
well understanding
What type of car do you have
Thanks. Although, it's important to keep your heel off the ground when moving the clutch back and forth, so that the pedal doesn't slide under your foot.

ironic how i practiced manual for the first time yesterday in my brother's Type R, and the first manual video i click on showcases an FK8 Type R
Phone is always listening!
i wanna try it! looks hard and confusing
I can tell this is one of the better explanations I've watched but I still don't get it haha
I am dumb :(
So you press brake clutch and let go
The best way to learn is{ buy a manual bomb, practice changing gear, get it right and then sell the bomb for what ever you can get for it}, THAT`S THE BEST WAY,.
What is the car does it have a push button?
It's a Honda Civic and yes it has a push button start button
Press clutch the change gears and accelerate
V v good
I’m super nervous in changing over to a manual licence 😩
Jeez uh, can I have the car? Lmao
And automatics are still overrated in Australia no thanks to the USA when the sales for manuals cars in Europe is like 80 to 85% and in Asia the sales are like 93% as a person who traveled to south east Asia about 95 to 98% of the transmissions are manual
3:15 check the gearbox is in neutral. you didn't show the neutral as the horizontal line on the gearbox graphic.
Why did you quote that time stamp?
whats the name of the car in this video??
Honda Civic
@@sramz2379 thanks
@Dylan CAMPBELL r*?
@@professorkrollz5009 it is the Honda Civic type r

How do you people drive a manual you do know that to slow down you can go back down the gears to slow down why do I always see people saying just put it in nutural and stop
Well I'm been driving manuals for over 7 yrs and it all comes down to common sense, it's call using ya brains and thinking of which gears U think U should be at or U can just drive a shit boring lazy automatic transmission smh
@@shamingandembrassingdriver2718 engine breaking I find much better
@@malarkey102 engine breaking?? Wtf?? Smh
@@shamingandembrassingdriver2718 if your in 4th gear drop to 3rd rev match and your car slows down my car is a 2009 model I don't know about newer cars
@@malarkey102 sounds like your not a good manual driver I'm afraid haha
Can aussie drive manual / stick?
I dont see much....
I live in melb... drive sti..
I hardly see lazy aussie drives a stick
You'd be getting alot of practice in your seven-eleven carpark though
Australia Uses More Automatic Transmission Cars Than Manual Transmission Cars
Can one-legged people drive cars?
Sure they can but probably best to stick with an automatic.
They use hand controls. The hand controls have both a brake and an accelerator..
Learn to lift completely without the accelerator on a straight.
Once you got that. The accelerator part will be easy. Wrong info on stalling under 1000 rpms. You can lift smoothly on 400 rpms. Why it stalls? You got lousy clutch footwork. Just relax and keep your footwork precise.
Am I the only 14 year old watching this?
im 10
I'm 15 and wanna drive
I learned on my dad’s 67 mustang 3 speed
At age 13
Rylan - Good for you! Would you like a trophy?
Jess M nah
Cool 😎
Im 10 i can Ride a Nike so bur
Well I’m 15 and can ride a scooter!
Fun fact:the R gear means racingear
Yes
noice I thought it was Road lol
i can't ride a bike
Why do people say there are more automatics in Australia it’s just so annoying I think the percent of automatics is lower then what we think I think it’s about 50% percent manual and 50% percent automatic so half and half and people saying manuals are becoming a lot more harder to get here in Australia when there is so many of them up for sale in car sales Australia and Facebook market it’s so annoying that people pick the easy way out here in Australia picking ease is so overrated all it’s doing is making us fatter and lazy, 14 years of picking the easy way out, man we have been influenced by the USA I wish we where not,
Well people here in Australia think the automatic transmission is the best thing since loaf of bread if you ask me people here in Australia just take the automatic transmission for granted which is really sad if you ask me when the automatic transmission has it’s problems too
@---- umm driving a automatic does make U a lazy person smh
@@shamingandembrassingdriver2718 the only one who is really at fault is Oscar h banker for inviting the automatic transmission in the first place
@@1000guy1 I've been driving manuals for 7 yrs , drove a rental car with a automatic car, soon as I drove of with I was bored and almost falling asleep, that's how boring the transmission is, don't understand how people like them it's just pathetic if U ask me smh
@@shamingandembrassingdriver2718 they so overrated even an octopus would prefer driving a manual
