Yes, AI is what finally pushed me to start drawing because I realized it's the only way to get exactly what I want. You raise an interesting point regarding the different playing fields of artists and Ai creators and I can agree with it to some extent. However, there are some popular artists who have started utilizing AI as part of their process, and most people following them or hiring them have no idea about it. It creates an unrealistic expectation of skill as well as the speed in which artworks can be created. This creates an unfair "advantage" to the artists utilizing AI and raises the level of competition in the industry. AI is still a big issue - and sometimes the threat comes from inside the art community itself.
Could you say which artists? I only kinda know about ergojosh and adam duff lucidpixul I'm thinking about adding jazza to this type of artists you are talking about... But on one hand, he did more analitic look, but on the other hand - some points in his last video... Ugh
As an illustrator, I lost a client to AI! It was a person with which I was working for almost 3 years, and also trusted him a lot. Well without telling me anything he started using AI for his new book. So it was a stab in the back, very painful.. he left me with nothing suddenly (no commissions). So that’s the thing… He’s an author, and decided to generate the images himself… and why?? Just because it’s free! The artistic view, accurate designs etc, didn’t matter anything to him after all. And that’s where some artists can suffer.
To understand the gulf between art and AI-generated imagery, we only need to look at why we, as humans, are drawn to images in the first place. Ever since the caveman days, art has been used to tell stories and to express ourselves. It's been true of every major art movement throughout history. The old European church frescos, to tell the stories of the bible to people who couldn't read. Realism, to tell the stories of the real world in an authentic manner. Impressionism, seeing the world through a new pair of eyes by painting with light. Cubism, true depiction of an object by painting it from all angles at once. And those are just a few examples among many. Ai art? "Uh, it looks kinda pretty, so it's art, bro". Art is a mode of expression and, most importantly, communication. AI art is, in the wise words of an art teacher of mine, nothing but a visual fart. It gives off a stink and the moment it's gone, everyone's forgotten it.
I had a chat with a friend who thinks AI is real art. I disagreed obviously. I told him I could go on my phone or PC and order a pizza and with a few clicks I can have a custom pizza that I "created" and it will be brought to me. AI artist would take that pizza and go around telling everyone that they're a chef.
As an artist im tempted to create AI that can make a virus to sent to these AI bro's who want to act like thieves & pretend to be artists by stealing people's hard work
The key to all art is the creative vision of the creator and more rarely the creators. Even in photography, the artistic sensibilities of the photographer observing the scene causes them to create art using a camera. AI can copy and generate something derivative but it can't create something unique and new or creatively reinterpret something. Also, my passion is photography, I am an avid amatuer photographer who got into photography for the artistic possibilities of photography. To me the joy is going out and finding a scene that I have strong enough reaction to that I take a photo, it's the journey of discovery not the final image itself that is important.
I noticed that artists who outright started using it became vilified as a whole. For obvious reasons since it was a definitive downgrade and ruination. So it makes me wonder why they initially got into art in the first place. 🤔 The whole "I can finally get my thing out" reminds me of a parody by Doobus Goobus of where someone says "It's a passion project I've had in my mind since I was a baby; this is what my life has been leading up to *man*!"
yeah .. I see it in my city, there was a place(pub) where Artist was suppose to sit. But actually it was always some scam, and after the AI , "AI-Artists" got gigs that painters should have had. But.. Anyways. what hapand with it? They are not creators. The event sucked . Nobody wanted to go there. the environment becomes so cold, emphty. that it falls apart of it self. And the artist. Actually. Thank God I/them don't have to hang around those heavy people ..
Interesting video, however I think some points are wrong. What make an artist better than ai isn't the complexity and coherence of the scene but the unique and personality in it that represent an artistic intent. AI generated image are generic and will never have this uniqueness, or at least not without the guidance of an artist through control tools to guide the generation the intended way. Another point is that AI generation is cheap and will stay cheap, to explain that, I use locally on my laptop a good enough model to do some decent images, no need for a costly server that require heavy funding and with the improvement of technology, the newer models are smaller, cheaper and more powerful. however it will never be able to draw my original characters or races, I would need to have an artist draw numerous image of them and feed them to the model training if I want to generate them. The last point is that depending on the work the artist is doing, ai art can or can't be a huge advantage, especially with the development of tools increasing the control over the generation (which can be better used by artist than others). Anyway, art is about creating and sharing a vision, a feeling, a story or whatever you want to share or tell. Do it the way you prefer, but the more control you have, the more accurate and unique it will be.
The people who use AI only in their process are never going to create anything great. They are still waiting for the technology to get even easier for them to use.
As an occasional "AI bro" who likes presentable characters for DnD, Ai doesn't make my life easier when trying to make specific details. I'll never regret what little skills I learned from making stuff in Inkscape from scratch for years... Just so I can make the edits needed. Trying to make AI do exactly what you want is headache inducing. I learned a while ago that the only reason I wanted to be an artist as a kid was that I wanted to be liked and popular. Not because I love drawing. I always loved mentally creating stories and the mental world building, just not the drawing part. Since then, I stopped drawing seriously. Fortnite is my life now XD I see AI as a toy and nothing more - it isn't precise enough. However, the reason's why AI is attractive to some of us is being missed. "Art" is a communication tool, and not just an expression of the soul or means to make money. In some universities, mathematics is classified as a language because it is universal. I see the visual arts in the same way. Even if someone has a great story, I just cannot respect it if it doesn't have good art. Nothing is going to change that about me. Most AI models out there need work, but I see them more akin to a picture board meant to facilitate a non-verbal's communication skills than an "art competitor". Not everyone is gifted. Everyone deserves a crutch, I think. If a person want to improve their skills, it should be up to the individual. I just wish that more AI users were upfront when using AI and didn't try to hide it in order to grift.
pretty much nailed i think part of the current ai discourse is how companies market this as a game changer for creativity when it doesn't help these said jobs and more so aims to replace them
I've tinkered around with some AI image generators and I agree -- you can _try_ to describe something in detail (and sometimes get pretty decent mileage out of it) but in the end you simply can not control _specific_ details with most generators.
In an internet wide discussion filled with much more anger than should be warranted, this is a good take. I mean, I'm only here because I was looking for takes after I saw a bunch of people online overreacting to an AI user who actually did disclose they were using AI. You got an actual philosophy going about it, and I dig that.
I keep saying it these people make generic art that ai is already doing they wont and frankly cant solve thier own creative issues begging other people for their brushes trying to gain access to other people's processes to mindlessly imitate and will defend that behavior and will perish on that hill make similar arguments like ai bros i actually like the presence of ai because now these people no longer have a choice either they get real creative or they will drown in the digital sea of generic art that bluntly speaking rightfully where they belong no hug boxing, no participation awards, no respectfully disagreeing no laziness or simply drown

The whole "I can finally get my thing out" reminds me of a parody by Doobus Goobus of where someone says "It's a passion project I've had in my mind since I was a baby; this is what my life has been leading up to *man*!"
What the name of the artist you mentioned to check out?
I see, thanks. It helped me lot ❤
Thanks for this!
Do it the way you prefer, but the more control you have, the more accurate and unique it will be.
based
The people who use AI only in their process are never going to create anything great.
They are still waiting for the technology to get even easier for them to use.
Wait? AI comincs? There is AI comics? Oh I see
As an occasional "AI bro" who likes presentable characters for DnD,
Ai doesn't make my life easier when trying to make specific details.
Fortnite is my life now XD
I see AI as a toy and nothing more - it isn't precise enough.
I keep saying it these people make generic art that ai is already doing they wont and frankly cant solve thier own creative issues begging other people for their brushes trying to gain access to other people's processes to mindlessly imitate and will defend that behavior and will perish on that hill make similar arguments like ai bros i actually like the presence of ai because now these people no longer have a choice either they get real creative or they will drown in the digital sea of generic art that bluntly speaking rightfully where they belong no hug boxing, no participation awards, no respectfully disagreeing no laziness or simply drown
will you mentor me without taking my personal information? you and I both know I’m too valuable for that and we both would like to work together.
What's so bad about AI art?
