Quick tip as someone who’s doing an all items run: for really rare critters, you can craft them into furniture which you only need to research one of, then shimmer the furniture items!
Secret trick that makes all gold critters (except mouse because of a glitch) trivial to collect: Binoculars (and scopes). When holding binoculars, the spawn radius for enemies increases greatly but the despawn radius is not affected. It will still be a bit of waiting for the seahorse (and water strider might need a specialized farm), but standing in a town with a water candle and battle potion should get you a large amount of critters spawning and automatically despawning without much effort. They will take around 7 seconds to despawn, which gives plenty of time to run over and get within their despawn radius.
this is a really, really fun genre of video. It also works as a fun contextual showcase of everything in a given item category, yknow, in a way thats not as sterile as a wiki page. A lot easier to appreciate an item when you get to see for yourself where it shows up.

Yeah, it took a while. I noticed the ruby minecart on my first watch and thought it was weird, then I noticed another one and realized what was going on. I think that it was fun and challenging,(you do it a lot better than most people lol) and I would love to see you do it again in another video, although I’d understand if you decide not to. Thoughts on stuff in the video: Gold water strider is not the rarest entity, I have one in my current playthrough.(It’s a casual playthrough that’s been going for a while now) I think the rarest is gold seahorse, because of the different way they spawn. When you do eventually do the all items run, you could do it on getfixedboi if you want to do it on one world. As for the next category you should do, I think vanity items would be a cool category to do.
I'm not sure if you know, but when looking for something found specifically in living tree, you can generate worlds with the Drunk World seed, they always have a ton of them (and I mean a ton, like ten to twenty per world). It's also the perfect opportunity to find that wand of sparking when it never seem to spawn on your world for some reason. X)
According to the wiki, the CelebrationMk10 seed generates even more living trees than the drunk seed. Though given that CelebrationMk10 also boosts certain drop chances and adds some rare items to NPC wares, some will probably claim using it in an item collection run is cheating.
@@ShadyScienceFeline Depending on how you see it, even using the drunk world seed might be seen as cheating. Ultimately, it's up to WoS to decide wether or not to use these kind of strategy.
i 100% completed a journey character and i can say that the water strider isn't that bad, since you can make a farm specifically for them and they have pretty good spawn rates. I got super lucky with the gold seahorse, its rates are terrible even with a specific farm. But by far the worst critter for me was the gold mouse, its annoying to farm because npcs stop it from spawning unlike other critters. And i got really unlucky.
I can confidently say that even with more than 3500hrs in this game, including modded, i've never seen either of these in their gold variants legitely. Only spawned them in once with cheat sheet to confirm that they even exist at all xd
With wall creepers passing through 1 block gaps, that's an issue with some fighter enemies being able to fit through smaller gaps after jumping. Some >3 block tall zombies can fit through 3 blocks when landing from a jump, while wall creepers, black recluses, blood crawlers, and crawdads can fit through a 1 block gap then. Town Slimes, the Old Man, and Traveling Merchant all count towards Party Girl. Skeleton Merchant does not. Balloons also always appear in any size world; large worlds have 1 of each item and 2 wildcards, small worlds will never have a Celestial Magnet. With the cavern fishing spot, you can actually just fish in the glowing mushroom biome, since that biome *only* gives quest fish and is otherwise normal cavern for fishing. For farming Pigrons, the best option is a mixed crimson *and* corruption biome with snow blocks for the spawning surface; it doubles their spawn rate to 1/15, so with spawn rate boosts and a proper farm it would take an average of 25 minutes to get the minecart. I'm also surprised you just skipped the free blinkroot early on when exploring the crimson, 1 blinkroot is 1 mining potion or spelunker potion or featherfall potion or even a hunter potion.
this run is one of my favorites! i especially love the part at the end where it goes from an "all minecarts" run to a "all broken endgame items" run. It was really satisfying and hilarious seeing bosses that you usually need to respect like Daytime Empress be killed in mere seconds
I spent many hours doing an all-research Journey Mode playthrough, and just about the only items I still don't have are those Living Tree minecarts. And that's even with using TEdit to cheese things by searching the chest contents of newly-generated worlds.
As someone who did an all research playthrough… golden critters aren’t too hard if you set up a good farm and turn up the spawn rates. The most annoying items for me were rare enemy banners and travelling merchant paintings.
Also! If you get one of a golden critter you can craft it into the display cage and research that in one, which can then be shimmered back into golden critters, so you don’t need to get all three.
can confirm it's probably paintings. attempted it casually, took longer and way more grinding than even all banners did. critters would probably tie for second with banners just by how long they both take (especially if you progress banners too early) i could see grinding progression all the way to DCU being the actual fastest option, just for how quickly it can tear through "field trip" worlds
For my journey character I ended up making almost 30 worlds, most of them just for the dungeon paintings I had 3 left, and kept not finding any of them, but then I found all 3 within a few meters of each other which was pretty funny

14:55 I had a journey World where I was trying to research all the critters. The golden water striders took… well, they took quite a long time, as did getting all the catchable fairies, although I don’t remember what took longer. I can’t remember if I ever got all the golden dragonflies I needed, and I’m pretty sure I gave up on catching golden seahorses. If you ever do an all critters run… well, I won’t envy you
WoS, I have important information: pigrons from pigron statues NEVER drop items, not even in hardmode. In the all items run, you will still need to manually farm them
On the wiki it just says they don't drop bacon, which is the item most people would farm them for anyway. It would just have a 0.05% chance, or 1/2000 as opposed to the 1% chance from regular pigrons.
I have a wild suggestion: I’ve been watching your videos for well over a year now and seen you struggle through several different challenges, like the Majora’s Mask 3-day world reset challenge, the Wheel of Chaos challenge, the Dream luck challenge, the (many) Randomized Blocks-challenges, etc.. I propose a super challenge, taking the rulesets from several of these past challenges and merge them into a single challenge. One idea: Majora’s Mask (optionally w/ an increased interval, maybe 5 or 7 days?) x Wheel of Chaos (w/ spinning the wheel every time the world ends, but any world-changing modifiers are erased when the world ends) x Randomized Blocks (w/ re-randomization every boss and randomizing every single iteration). Each challenge was interesting on their own, but I really wanna see them all together and see how they interact with each other. Of course, this is just one suggestion for such a super-challenge…
Since you're allergic to the sunstone as you proclaim, why don't you play as a Vampire then? The Challenge: Beat Terraria while being a vampire, meaning only fighting/exploring/mining/etc at night and for an added challenge, only using weapons/tools/armor that grant life leech! There is a new world seed coming that will make you into a vampire, so you can always wait until 1.4.5 to try it out.
i have played this game for approaching 3k hours and i have yet to ever see a Golden Seahorse LMAO all items researched is definitely something to prepare yourself for, it would be a massive undertaking also that Teleport Potion straight to the Shimmer was awesome
The fishing quest doesn't need to be a tedious grind, during the day, you can just get quest fish as much as u can, hand the first fish to angler, then go to the main menu and change the character name, that way the game will let u turn in another quest fish, without sacrificing your fishing quest progress, so u don't need to wait for a whole day to do another fishing quest.
Fun fact about Golden critter for researching, you only need one, since you can make the cages, which only need one to research, then you can shimmer three and get the critter

Very late comment since I'm not seeing this video until just now--I did an all research run back in 1.4.3! It's been a while, but here's what I remember: -Yes, the Gold Water Strider is a nightmare to get three of, although I remember Gold Mice also being really annoying due to being able to dash away. -The Waldo painting was the singular item that caused me the most grief due to its sheer rarity. Although I may just be unlucky, since my newest playthrough has two : ) -Banners like Doctor Bones and other similar rare spawns are nightmare fuel. I spent hours upon hours farming for some of those. Overall, my full research run at the time took around 120 hours to complete. I would assume that things like The Dirtiest Block will increase this significantly, but the Shimmer also allows for quicker access to certain items. If you do plan on doing the run, I wish you the best of luck!
VIDEO IDEA: So essentially beat Terraria but using weapons in the order of the alphabet. E.g. start with a, then b, but if there is not a weapon/item to use skip to d, but after using that weapon, you can’t use any weapons beginning with a,b or c. Sound a bit complicated but would result in using some unique strategies I think
I'm currently working on an all items research run, a helpful tip if you decide to do it is make golden critters terrariums and shimmer them. That way you only need one of each golden critter
I'm so glad the shimmer was added. I was doing an all research run, but stopped when i found out about the golden water strider. But now with Shimmer you only really need one of each golden critter since the cages are researched after 1 and can be decrafted
I think an all chest run would be interesting. It combines exploration, beating the game, and quite a lot of grind. Perhaps the run would be fun (or at least a portion of it)
For the all items researched run you mentioned golden water striders/needing 3 of them theres a cheeky way around that if you make a terrariumwith a gold water strider (or gold anything that goes in) you only need on e of those to be researched then you can have however many you need and then you shimmer them into its parts and thus only need 1 golden water strider to make more. (its super handy. Ive been trying to full out my research collection and ive used this method for other golden critters. they are so dang rare i think i only have 3 so far and 1 is the golden worm which is easy with the worm cans.
An idea I just had for this series is to have a different world that is a sort of museum where you would keep all of the collected items throughout the series of course, the fact that all the food in the first video was eaten makes it a bit more difficult to do
Me then: I will use the mechanical cart because it has the best stats. Me now: T E R R A T O I L E T C A R T (also I have finally "finished" the all items run only to realise that to get the maximum amount of itens in a single world requires the drunk seed, you might wonder why not getfixedboi? You can't get solutions and the cleminator in there and the red potion doesn't make up for it as it is a single item, so to get the absolute maximum amount of itens you will have to play on drunk seed since you can get both corruption loot, including shadow orbs, and crimson loot, including crimson hearts, and moon lord's legs, the moment of realisation paralyzed me as I have wasted over a thousand hours getting all the itens only to have to restart from scratch, only to be missing some items that are un-obtainable in that world).

According to the wiki, the CelebrationMk10 seed generates even more living trees than the drunk seed. Though given that CelebrationMk10 also boosts certain drop chances and adds some rare items to NPC wares, some will probably claim using it in an item collection run is cheating.

gold water strider or gold seahorse are defenetly the wost critters you need, I still havent found a gold seahorse in nearly 650 hours of playing
i 100% completed a journey character and i can say that the water strider isn't that bad, since you can make a farm specifically for them and they have pretty good spawn rates. I got super lucky with the gold seahorse, its rates are terrible even with a specific farm. But by far the worst critter for me was the gold mouse, its annoying to farm because npcs stop it from spawning unlike other critters. And i got really unlucky.
fr, golden seahorse is the really painfull one in getting all the golden critters.

I can confidently say that even with more than 3500hrs in this game, including modded, i've never seen either of these in their gold variants legitely. Only spawned them in once with cheat sheet to confirm that they even exist at all xd
With wall creepers passing through 1 block gaps, that's an issue with some fighter enemies being able to fit through smaller gaps after jumping. Some >3 block tall zombies can fit through 3 blocks when landing from a jump, while wall creepers, black recluses, blood crawlers, and crawdads can fit through a 1 block gap then.
Town Slimes, the Old Man, and Traveling Merchant all count towards Party Girl. Skeleton Merchant does not. Balloons also always appear in any size world; large worlds have 1 of each item and 2 wildcards, small worlds will never have a Celestial Magnet.
With the cavern fishing spot, you can actually just fish in the glowing mushroom biome, since that biome *only* gives quest fish and is otherwise normal cavern for fishing. For farming Pigrons, the best option is a mixed crimson *and* corruption biome with snow blocks for the spawning surface; it doubles their spawn rate to 1/15, so with spawn rate boosts and a proper farm it would take an average of 25 minutes to get the minecart.
I'm also surprised you just skipped the free blinkroot early on when exploring the crimson, 1 blinkroot is 1 mining potion or spelunker potion or featherfall potion or even a hunter potion.

this run is one of my favorites! i especially love the part at the end where it goes from an "all minecarts" run to a "all broken endgame items" run. It was really satisfying and hilarious seeing bosses that you usually need to respect like Daytime Empress be killed in mere seconds

I spent many hours doing an all-research Journey Mode playthrough, and just about the only items I still don't have are those Living Tree minecarts. And that's even with using TEdit to cheese things by searching the chest contents of newly-generated worlds.
Can we just talk about the teleportation potion leading to literally the exact edge of the shimmer pond? That's incredibly funny to me.
As someone who did an all research playthrough… golden critters aren’t too hard if you set up a good farm and turn up the spawn rates. The most annoying items for me were rare enemy banners and travelling merchant paintings.
Also! If you get one of a golden critter you can craft it into the display cage and research that in one, which can then be shimmered back into golden critters, so you don’t need to get all three.
Hey if you want the most painful challenge, every painting is probably the nastiest, that or every critter
can confirm it's probably paintings. attempted it casually, took longer and way more grinding than even all banners did. critters would probably tie for second with banners just by how long they both take (especially if you progress banners too early)
i could see grinding progression all the way to DCU being the actual fastest option, just for how quickly it can tear through "field trip" worlds
For my journey character I ended up making almost 30 worlds, most of them just for the dungeon paintings
I had 3 left, and kept not finding any of them, but then I found all 3 within a few meters of each other which was pretty funny

The golden water striders took… well, they took quite a long time, as did getting all the catchable fairies, although I don’t remember what took longer. I can’t remember if I ever got all the golden dragonflies I needed, and I’m pretty sure I gave up on catching golden seahorses. If you ever do an all critters run… well, I won’t envy you
WoS, I have important information: pigrons from pigron statues NEVER drop items, not even in hardmode. In the all items run, you will still need to manually farm them
On the wiki it just says they don't drop bacon, which is the item most people would farm them for anyway. It would just have a 0.05% chance, or 1/2000 as opposed to the 1% chance from regular pigrons.

I have a wild suggestion:
I’ve been watching your videos for well over a year now and seen you struggle through several different challenges, like the Majora’s Mask 3-day world reset challenge, the Wheel of Chaos challenge, the Dream luck challenge, the (many) Randomized Blocks-challenges, etc..
I propose a super challenge, taking the rulesets from several of these past challenges and merge them into a single challenge. One idea: Majora’s Mask (optionally w/ an increased interval, maybe 5 or 7 days?) x Wheel of Chaos (w/ spinning the wheel every time the world ends, but any world-changing modifiers are erased when the world ends) x Randomized Blocks (w/ re-randomization every boss and randomizing every single iteration). Each challenge was interesting on their own, but I really wanna see them all together and see how they interact with each other.
Of course, this is just one suggestion for such a super-challenge…

The Challenge: Beat Terraria while being a vampire, meaning only fighting/exploring/mining/etc at night and for an added challenge, only using weapons/tools/armor that grant life leech! There is a new world seed coming that will make you into a vampire, so you can always wait until 1.4.5 to try it out.

The fishing quest doesn't need to be a tedious grind, during the day, you can just get quest fish as much as u can, hand the first fish to angler, then go to the main menu and change the character name, that way the game will let u turn in another quest fish, without sacrificing your fishing quest progress, so u don't need to wait for a whole day to do another fishing quest.

Very late comment since I'm not seeing this video until just now--I did an all research run back in 1.4.3! It's been a while, but here's what I remember:
-Yes, the Gold Water Strider is a nightmare to get three of, although I remember Gold Mice also being really annoying due to being able to dash away.
-The Waldo painting was the singular item that caused me the most grief due to its sheer rarity. Although I may just be unlucky, since my newest playthrough has two : )
-Banners like Doctor Bones and other similar rare spawns are nightmare fuel. I spent hours upon hours farming for some of those.
Overall, my full research run at the time took around 120 hours to complete. I would assume that things like The Dirtiest Block will increase this significantly, but the Shimmer also allows for quicker access to certain items. If you do plan on doing the run, I wish you the best of luck!

I'm currently working on an all items research run, a helpful tip if you decide to do it is make golden critters terrariums and shimmer them. That way you only need one of each golden critter

I'm so glad the shimmer was added. I was doing an all research run, but stopped when i found out about the golden water strider. But now with Shimmer you only really need one of each golden critter since the cages are researched after 1 and can be decrafted
I think an all chest run would be interesting. It combines exploration, beating the game, and quite a lot of grind. Perhaps the run would be fun (or at least a portion of it)

theres a cheeky way around that
if you make a terrariumwith a gold water strider (or gold anything that goes in) you only need on e of those to be researched
then you can have however many you need
and then you shimmer them into its parts
and thus only need 1 golden water strider to make more. (its super handy. Ive been trying to full out my research collection and ive used this method for other golden critters. they are so dang rare i think i only have 3 so far and 1 is the golden worm which is easy with the worm cans.

An idea I just had for this series is to have a different world that is a sort of museum where you would keep all of the collected items throughout the series

You can't get solutions and the cleminator in there and the red potion doesn't make up for it as it is a single item, so to get the absolute maximum amount of itens you will have to play on drunk seed since you can get both corruption loot, including shadow orbs, and crimson loot, including crimson hearts, and moon lord's legs, the moment of realisation paralyzed me as I have wasted over a thousand hours getting all the itens only to have to restart from scratch, only to be missing some items that are un-obtainable in that world).
