That’s smile he does in the middle is everything. He could be a character in the nightmare before Christmas.
It's his ability to smile only with his mouth. Not a hint of joy in the rest of the face. Scary!
@@donkfail1 Yup was just about to comment this. The smile is meant to alleviate the fears of the children he is singing too, but it's a fake smile that can't hide the pain in his eyes.
Till's smile can make even the Joker run away screaming!!
yeah right!? Even Batman takes flight seeing him in a dark alley
Till's father was a poet. Werner Lindemann
There are references to the German children's TV show "Sandmännchen" (little sandman) that told the children that it is now time to go to sleep but before he tells a nice animated story. It started with the first and third line of the Rammstein lyrics "Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein acht, ich hab euch etwas mitgebracht." (Now dear children pay good attention, I have brought you something ...) Of course those stories were not scary.
In German the "burning heart" can have two meanings, first enthusiasm or love for something or someone and second being very sad, depressive, or traumatized. In this case it is surely the second meaning.
As far as I remember it from the making of, the location was a former orphanage.
For this song - I assume - there are as many interpretations as listeners. So here is just my personal interpretation.
The song is clearly about nightmares. But it has also references to child abuse. E.g. in West-Germany in the 60th and 70th there were so called "Kindererholungsheim" (children's convalescent home). Parents - in a large scale - were told that their children seemed to be sickly and some weeks in those institutes would be good for them. The health insurance paid for it. In fact, it was just a big business where children were "stored" at minimal costs. There was also plenty of physical and psychological violence and many children came back traumatized. (A lot of them are still suffering from this "experience".) As the members of Rammstein came from East-Germany, I'm not sure whether there were similar kind of cases in their environment which was even more restrictive than that in the west. From this perspective Till's role in the song/video seems to be a mixture of demon and victim in the same character. Like those children coming back from those "Kindererholungsheim", still carrying the demon (trauma) with them. Or maybe Till is the personification of pure pain.
Till's cuts are real and self-inflicted for this video. The man does everything for his art. In principle, the song is an alternative to the good night song for children. I think even adults would flee there. 😂
"Blackmail" is mistranslated here. It should be called pressing. Apply pressure to the eyelids.
Of this song there is of course still the original Rammstein sound variant ala "Du Hast"
A lot of people like the piano version but me personally the other version is my favorite.
yes, I pick chellos every time :D
I love original as well
Both are great and different. The piano Version is for me more creepy. The original version give more goosebumps.
Let's just agree that both versions are masterpieces.
yes me also. I like the non piano version better
A masterpiece! 😍😍😍 Thanks guys!
When Chuck Norris peed in his bed he was dreaming about Till.
This video were filmed at Beelitz Heilstätten near Berlin. A huge old Hospital complex abanded for a long time.
I think it's also been used in the Valkyrie movie with Tom cruise
It's about sandmännchen - Little sandman. A german childrens show.
He speaks until the sun rules. And his heart burns. I always interpreted it such that nightmares are the actual reality.
As far as I know, he doesn't play a specific person or character there. He embodies the fear itself, which haunts children at night for various reasons and steals their sleep.
He IS the fear. He feeds on the children's fear and tears. They are his elixir of life. But when it gets light in the morning, his power is broken and he has to go.
Dark stories told to children have a certain tradition in Germany (fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, Max and Moritz, Struwwelpeter,...). I think that was the way to prepare children for life - to tell them that there are not only butterflies and flowers out there, but also evil animals and people.
You certainly should check out their official video to this song, it is even more haunting if you see them there.
Creepy good! Fantastic reaction...please react to this live 2013 with Flake on piano...its brilliant
I didn't know they did this live. Omg I need to see that
Tha subtitles are very nicely done and translated correctly, capturing the mood with the font.
Mein Herz brennt (my heart burns) = MINE HERTS BRENNT (approx. pronunciation in English)
You should also try the original version. This is just kinda a piano cover.
Great Piano interpretation and great Reaction to the Song! 👍
This is such a beautiful song.
I'm so inlove with this video. I see it that he really have good intentions, but are scary af. Sacrificing himself for the children. My interpretation. I don't know the lore of this story. So so hauntingly beautiful. Hugs from Sweden.
- We're going out tonight, so we have a babysitter coming over soon.
- Who?
- It's uncle Till. You like him, right?
- Well...
- Maybe he'll sing you a lullaby.
- NOOOOOO!
I think he must have sung his children a lullaby 😂
Prefer the other version. And you reckon this is creepy. You have to do the official video to Mein Teil. It’s CREEPY!! 🤘🤘

The first line "Now dear children pay good attention" is lent from the German TV series Mr. Sandman, which I grew up with. It's - like in the US - made for young children or toddlers. Till's performance combined with my memories of my childhood with the "Sandmännchen" somehow gives me that uncomfortable feeling inside of my stomach. If you know what I mean 😒 But yet, another brilliant piece of Rammstein art - poetry meets creepiness.
He is supposed to be the 'sandman' of German culture, if i remember right
Fuer frei is my favorite.
I like both versions, this piano version, but the band version as well..maybe more..
This is the video that convinced me that Till should play a Bond villain in a future movie.
It and Joker run away, Till is brilliant
You guys need to get mind blown? React to Zombie Hyperdrive - Red Eyes.
The guitar 🎸 is a killer
Greatings from Germany thats a Song for little Childrens :-) the y have go to Bed. Thats no great deal in Germany :-)
Their best / creepiest song / video is for Mein Teil. Before seeing this one you need to do the research, it is about a real person / situation that happened in Germany. Til said that if anyone was going to do a song about it , it should be them
А wienner blut если я правильно название написал? Для меня она самая дикая у Рамштайн и на реальной истории.
Where on earth did you find this person or group?
Superb aren’t they?! 🤘🤘💪
@@TheRammMan yesss 😊🤘
Rosenrot should be next. Anorher masterpiece...
To cry, onhe dich
To cry, need to do Onhe Dich
That was FINSTER ! 😱😱😱
react to the live rock version!
OK I'll never close my eyes again
its the sand man!!
❤❤
Child abuse is normal in Germany... What I witnessed in Germany, in institutions as a "volunteer", ruined my life...
No Slaughter, instead rather good pronunciation, folks.
And clearly we're doing with dhlok tok tober1
Amazing version of the song. Personally i prefer the metal version and the video for yhat. It's even more disturbing.
yes right on the money, before christianity. a lot of the old disney cartoon movies are old folklores that were sanitize by disney to make them into lovable childrens movies. it cool to see people react when they are portrayed in the original text. german migration into us was large and after ww2 german culture and heritage was almost taboo. so if you watch a childrens movie and it's scary and dark its the way it should be, not remade into a scary movie.
Nice video! You asked for Fairy Tales: This song refers to the Sandmann, a well-known German TV Show, but its not creepy. The next fairy tale is the "pied piper", in German "der Rattenfänger von Hameln".
There is a poem by Goethe: "Der Erlkönig" (the elf's king,) that is very popular. Schubert has written a music score. If you're interested: There's a very nice animation with English subs under

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is another creepy ballad by Goethe, animated by Walt Disney, ft. M.Mouse.

All---righty--then??? lol
A dir poco inquietante
If I'm not mistaken, this song is about child abuse in an orphanage.
Even makes the song scarier 😢
such an artificial song 👌
I don't like these SUBTITLE videos they are blocking the view on many details and are distracting.
Please also react to the making of videos.
And i suggest reading the real Grimm versions of Snow White and other fairy tales. They are not so pastel toned like the diznee covers
They are good musicians, but I stood an understand why people here in North America gets so into bands, which are speaking something other than English… I don’t wanna have to take German lessons or read along to know what the lyrics are just like with that ridiculous band baby metal. The scorpions are a pretty good band, they’re from Germany and their songs are in English.
Because it's about the music, not the lyrics.
@@iamrickrock well that’s where you’re wrong because the lyrics are part of the music.
@@robertdysonnso why watch or comment Debbie Downer...Still is the best lyricist/ frontman out there... Scorpions...pffff...saw them 3x in the 80s...same bullshit every concert ..it was stunningly boring... Rammstein is the best live band on the planet ..
@@briantingley7316 well I’m sure it would be if you’re not smart enough to care about lyrics and I didn’t say anything about the best band ever. I just said they learned how to speak English since the biggest sales opportunities are here in an English-speaking country. It was an example is what that’s called not a declaration. if you want instrumentals with babble through them that you can understand then enjoy. What I do know is that there are so much better heavy bands from the United States when it comes to musicianship and oddly enough, you can actually understand the words they put in there too.
@@briantingley7316 it’s funny how angry some of you get by somebody just stating their opinion, but if you wanna waste time telling me about how dumb you are that’s fine with me, smiles.
"Hey I finally have female control"... soooooo this is how it's done
