If you guys are having troubles with it hitting the exhaust or the actual shifter hitting it’s because in the video he installed the rubber grommet that sits on the ball of the shifter upside down just make sure you don’t put the rubber grommet on upside down like he did and you’ll be fine, adding a bit of grease in that grommet where it meets the ball also helps if your car has a lot of miles will just help but you don’t need it
Thanks for you help
Yes, when your trying to put the rubber grommet over the shifter bearing you should put the new rubber grommet in hot water so it will go over the bearing and not break…I used some black lithium grease inside the grommet after I installed it.. then I slid it over the shifter ball. Then installed the ball sleeve. Gets a little messy. But cleans up nicely with shop rag. Make sure you install the cockpit rubber grommet onto the shifter metal housing before you put the unit back in. Then after install go inside cockpit and pull it up and around the metal curb . Looks very nice.
thank you i was stressing
I finally got it to work after reading the comments
Awesome I just ordered a Megan Racing short shifter and a shifting stabilizer kit for my ek6 now I know how to put it in thanks for the tutorial!
How do you like it I just bought the same
the only useful guide! thanks so much
Really informative thank you sm!!
Another trick to get that back bushing on, get an 8mm socket, press it in, QUICKLY go up a size then another size to where it’ll easily go over the tip n the socket will push out👌🏼
This is perfect I just bought my short throw and now I have a guide video! Thanks man
Wow that's awesome lol, it's super easy and it made a huge difference. The video doesn't really do it justice. It's so much firmer and really engages the gears better. I love it
I may consider doing this on my 98 Civic build over on my channel. we'll see. thanks
Nice install looks pretty simple and seems to make a difference
I really thought it would be more involved but it was very easy and yes in made a big difference! I love the way it shifts now it's not like a floppy noodle any more
@@BoBuilds it looks easy whenever I convert mine into a 5-speed that's what I'm doing thanks for the video
No problem 👍
is the dustboot on upside down?
Awesome comparison video
Thanks man, wish I could've synced up the shifting better lol
looks like you put the dust seal upside down, if you compare it to how it looked when you removed the stock one
very helpfull thanks!
Can someone give me the actual name of the “boot” that’s on the shifter that prevents the heat from coming in from the bottom
he put the bushing on the wrong side. it should be on the bottom of the ball
Does the short shifter in the link fit to a 1999 cx hb?
Mine comes with grease where would i put the grease at
is that d15z6
I'm a do this to my Honda
Nice bro
Thanks
is it necessary to put on the new bushings? is it possible to just buy the short throw shifter and install with all the original parts?
yes
Bushings are only $18 and it's definitely worth doing. It'll remove any slop or play that your shifter has. I highly recommend doing the bushings when you do your short shifter.
Hopefully I don’t get looked at weird when I buy a 5lbs Thor hammer 😭😅
I'm so fucking disappointed in myself it's late I've worked 9 and a half hours and I wanted to install my short shifter because it came today and I was getting frustrated and I finally got it to the point where I was putting the linkage in and the shifter just fell right out so now I'm getting up early tomorrow to put it in.
2 years later, how’d it go bro?
@@mortal2319 I wound up putting it in backwards, to where to would hit the cups in the cupholders. I had a coworker come over and he flipped it in 5 minutes. Lol. But after that the shifter was great nice n short. I had an eBay one and it never broke on me.
The bottom of mine touches stock exhaust
The ktuned one is even shorter. I have a replica and it works fine
Just put my k tuned one in with this video mine still feels a bit long compaired to my old buddy club
Take that back just took it for a drive😂😂
Do you have a link for the shifter or the name
Hey I just installed mine and it keeps hitting my exhaust pipe . Any clue? I have stock exhaust
Same problem
This video installs it wrong lol
@@itsjohnnnog how come?
@@guigoncas the ball is supposed to be on the top side instead of the bottom side of the metal bracket. Look at when he first pulls out the stock shifter vs when he reinstalls it
@@itsjohnnnog oh yh just noticed it, thanks.
So if I follow the install and put that rubber boot correctly it'll work fine, right?
Can I used this on my honda civic ex 1999 4 doors anyone please let me know 🙏 thank you
You should be able to 96 to 00 is the same gen
It’s a good video but I think that he needs to slow it down a little bit and talk us thru it so that we can pay more attention
True. Some people are visual learners and some aren’t
Does it work on ek3 ?
sure
cheers lad for making a useless guide and not even showing how its supposed to be done, the ball is supposed to go inside the support housing and pivot from there so if anyone is looking at this video from now on, put the dust boot on so the plate is below the ball, otherwise it will hit the exhaust and not pivot right at all, and you wont make 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse gear as it doesnt pivot properly and take the linkage across to go to 1-2-5-R
You mean put that rubber boot on the ball but upside down, so the plate is exactly under the ball instead of on top?
Yeah I did exactly what he did now my shifter is dropping down on me😭
wow, i hate driding with the stock shifter..
Do you mean drifting, driving or riding?
Thanks bro
