Mercedes W140 s500 starter clicking issue & door locks fixed now new issue need your help

- So a few weeks back my car stated making a clicking noise when trying to start. Sometimes it wouldn't start at all. I kind of ignored the issue thinking it was a faulty battery. Then I realized my locks didn't work and trunk latch wasn't coming out. Today i solved both issues with a simple fuse. But now I have a new issue I created by trying to change out what I thought was a starter issue. While under car I cleaned off some wires and believe I messed something up that won't let me get out of park.
Relays in your trunk passenger side remove the "side liner" you will see a box you need to unplug it and take the black box out, take the computer board out from the box and you will find the four relay that needs to be replaced. it requires desolder and soldering new. what u can do prior is shake the computer board and hear if it rattle if it does then the 4 relay needs to be replaced part number (siemens v23078-c1002-a303)
check to see if they have a brake light switch linked to the brake pedal. When that goes bad, the brake lights won come on and it wont allow the car to come out of park. The car thinks that you're trying to shift out of park without your foot on the brake. It's a common problem in this era and age of Mercedes

My 95 s320l also had the same issues like yours( the trunk lid &soft close not working) do u know how to fix that problem other than change the fuse? On the other hand, check the condition of the PSE pump at the back of the rear seats to see if the pump running too long can burn the pump..n the vacuum system u said in the video behind the glove box is the Y11 block for the HVAC n I've been there it is a tedious work to do, so start with the vacuum distribution block on the passenger footwell,this small distribution block always develop cracks.
2. test the electronics of the PSE pump. Do the little lights on the door handles work when you lock and unlock the car?
Secondly test if your alarm works. Lock the door, leave the window open and try open the door using the inside handle. If the alarm works, then chances are the electronics on the pump might be fine..
If the small lights on the handles, and alarm don't work, then your PSE might really need to be replaced.
3. Gear stuck at P, might be the 'neutral safety switch' ,need to be replaced.. the switch is engaged when in park or neutral..
So today I got the car out of park for good. I think it was the safety switch but I think I broke past it. Lol. Another person said they forced it and got it to work and it's been a few years. So I said what the hell and slowly forced it. Then it popped and is now working for good
I hate to say it but you may be right about the pump. It worked for a few times after switching the fuse and then stopped again. Ironically it now states up perfect every time due to changing fuse.
But now I have another new issue. I pulled my seat back all the way to test the brake light switch and now the gears are just spinning. Seat won't go forward or back. Ahhhh. The joys of owning the best car ever made
@@petescarport I've been a lot with my 140 ownership, sometimes I felt like want to get rid of it & find another one (last batch) n live happily hehe but what I can do is keep it until time will tell. About the pump n fuse , u should rectify the problem or not the fuse will burn out.. the pump will activate the safety procedures by switching off the pump or fuse will burn out again..
About the seats, my passenger seat also not working due to the module need to be replace..now my comfort module on its way & the seats adjustment,mirrors n the rear headrest n rear seat adjustment all not working except the passenger side window & rear left window are the one only works but before the c.module does this issues,my steering adjustment does the same thing like yours clicking for going up&down but front & back is ok.now my steering wheel are on the upmost so it looks weird cuz is too high for my liking..moral of the story, do not adjust until the fully up position or down position..or not u will regret it like me😅

Hi Pete. Regarding the shifter: check the shifter bushings underneath on the passanger side of the tranny. You should have a shift rod which connects via a bushing and a clip. Bushings go and make it hard to shif. You may also hear a metal rattle when you shift. There is a special MBZ tool which makes insrallation a breeze! If not, check the shifter unit itself (harder to deal with). I am not sure how servicable they are, but there is a safety switch in there which could be broken.

Thank you so much for filling me in. I did end up getting shifter working. I basically forced it and something inside popped loose and now it works.
The rims are made by Mandrus specifically for Mercedes and the model is called Emil
@@petescarport nice! Thanks. I own a 99 s320. Bought it with 135k on the clock and now has 165k in less than 11 months of ownership (daily commute). The car does have issues as its old, but man these are wonderful to drive and work on. The straight 6 engine is super reliable too, with plenty of room to work around. I wanted a 600 to garage, baby, and weekend-drive but need a good example which is super hard to find. Good luck with your projects, you got a handfull 👍👍

im having the same clicking and lock issues. that clicking is so unusual since the starter still turns and starts the car while doing it. the car did sit for 6 years then for a year and a half under a new owner so maybe i'll just buy a bunch of fuses and swap everything out hahaha.
Yes check the fuses. That was my issue. Basically the door lock pump must have blown a fuse and then failed shortly after. When I changed fuse the door locks worked a few times and then died
It worked. Guess I'm gonna hop online and just order some bulk fuse packs hahaha. I expect some of them to blow multiple times considering the car sat for so long. Everything is just waking up right now

Hey Pete, why did you prefer the s500 over the s600?
For daily use 100%. Now the s600 is so unique and more rare I would want one for car shows and weekends, where as the s500 can be a daily and travel car still today.
My s420 did the same thing I thought it was cause I parked on a slant the shifter got stuck but all I did was pressed the brake put a lot of force on it and it went into gear a week later it did the same thing
Now it’s been like 5 months haven’t had that problem anymore
I am so mad that this worked. Lmao. So I basically swapped out the brake light switch and then planned to pull apart the shifter. Then I wiggled it and it went into gear. Everytime I put back to park and let go of brake it would lock up but with force went back to gears. I finally pulled with a good amount of force and heard a loud pop. Now it functions perfectly
Which one do you prefer? The S500 or S600 and why?
Depends. The s500 is by far one of the best daily driving big cars you can get. They are reliable and fairly easy and cheap to work on. The s600 is a big statement and on a whole different level of car. But you wouldn't want to daily drive one unless you planned on spending more than it's worth in a short time. Even regular maintenance is way more due to engine size alone.

@@frankxu3409 get an external battery and hook it up to a 12volt cigarette lighter .. turn key to pos 2. Press and hold unlock button .... vvvvoooowwwaaallllaaaaa.
I had exact same problem just called the locksmith to break open your car from the driver side window and he could slip something in and pop open the switch and the handle to open the door then you need to go to your Mercedes dealer give him all the information they needed regarding your vehicles and your personal information and they'll make a key for you but without the remote just a master key
Driving home last week the trunk on my w140 came open on the freeway. No reason. I swear these cars are effing possessed
Lol. Haven't had that yet but have had some strange things happen. Next step for me is to test pump under seat. It may have died
You know same thing happened to me too but I realized it didn’t just pop open it never shut right in the first place due to both a vacuum pump and unsecured latch issue

Lol. Honestly I don't either but car is starting great now. I fixed the stuck in park issue today but now the locks won't work again and also on top of that I had my seat all the way back to test the brake light switch and now the gears in seat are just spinning. What are the chances.
@@petescarport put your ass in the seat and jump up and down and try and push it forward while pushing the button,sometimes works and check the fuse for your central locking

@@johnnywalker9624 I'm doing a series on vibrations. I just posted one. Basically need to check all suspension and don't forget about engine mounts, drive shaft mount, drive shaft flex joints and even wheel bearings. Is it a vibration or a bad shake
